Hey I'm in school for welding at Milwaukee Job Corps Center and my whole trade watches your videos. They help us improve majorly and pass each weld examination. Thank you for you participation in helping us get better at what we like to do best. You're awesome and please keep up the good work!!!
I can't begin to tell you how helpful your videos are. I've already done the flat test and passed my certification but I'm going back to another school to finish up the 3g/4g tests and start MIG/TIG as well. Keep them coming! :D
I've been welding 50-plus years, and I still pick up goodies every time I watch one of your videos! THANK YOU !!! (I like to use an 8' 4awg stinger extention for vertical and overhead. It doesn't wear your arms out so quick!) Bill, from Tn. 🇺🇸
Thanks for these videos. I just passed the 7018 3g and 4g 1 inch structural steel test last week. With these videos and the help from my instructor it ended up being a breeze. Now I'm hoping to learn how to run 232 flux core so I can test for that in the near future.
Just started welding school and the part about "I can make it..I can make it .) Is just so true 😂 You are the finest welding instructor and really a natural teacher man, thanks alot for your videos they'll definitely help me pass my tests.
@@come1atmebro Oh wow, haven't seen this got replies. Yes I am, found work instantly at one of the biggest sheet metal fabrication companies in the world and I've worked my way up to being a supervisor here now. Learning welding was the best choice I've ever made in my adult life.

I am an engineer and have a home shop and several welders. Watching these videos is so great for even those of us who are not career welders. Really great content and dialog. Thanks Jody!!!
Terrific video. I have major issues with overhead 7018. The main issue is that I'm blind in my left eye. The other problem is with stick angle and setup. I was always taught the straight stick as you showed at the beginning of this video. This setup made it very difficult for me to see the puddle and arc length because of the distance from my test piece. I will try this setup in the future. Thank you.
I watch a lot of UA-cam , this guy makes the best videos I have seen, does not waste time or d time. This ought be the model for home videos . So many times videos waste sooo much time. EXCELLENT.
Jody, Great vid! Thank you. I was welding under my truck and things were going OK. As you know there are flashes of light, smoke etc. I ended the pass but noticed that there was still some flickering/smoke going on. I flipped back my helmet and discovered that the rag in my breast pocket was burning along nicely! A few pats and I put out the fire. Took the rag away too! LOL Eric
Great job, as always. I wish I had these videos a few months ago when I was taking all of these tests. The video you did have out was massively useful in producing a passing plate. Thank you, sir!
Thanks to your viseo on 6G pipe test i was able to get enough information to take my 6G test and land the job! I failed the test but i had full pen on the root and the supervisor was impressed with the fact that I'd never ran on pipe befoe and did so well with the root. Keep the videos coming!
when I did mine I took the arm off tacked it to the table and laid on the floor and easily did the 4g in the most comfortable position possible...all sparks were going away from my didn't get burned, I was in a simple carhartt longsleeve.....I learned welding is about comfort...you cant always be in the most comfortable position but if you learn to put yourself in the most comfortable position possible for that weld you will never lay a bad weld.
Excellent videos! Question, I have almost always used a whip line with my Bernard twist lock electrode holder especially when doing critical welds that don't need to be balls to the walls in speed. You're able to bend the rod in any position needed and always have a tight grip on it. Just wandering your opinion on the twist lock holder and why I very seldom see you use one. One other thing is, overhead welding is one of my favorites especially welding heavy equipment when you can lay on your back and reach your work without hardly extending your arms. It's like getting paid to weld while laying in bed. Nothing better than being comfortable while welding no matter what position. Maybe a vid on making up a 10' light weight whip line that may be very beneficial to a lot of your viewers. Thanks, Ed K Cleve. Oh.

could you do a overhead open root 6010 root 7018 fill and cap I'm really struggling with the root. your videos have really helped me thanks for the time and effort you put into them
I took a vertical and overhead test last week at a shipyard but I'm still waiting on the results, the guy told me they had a big backlog on tests and the anticipation is killing me. I'm pretty sure I crushed the vertical but I lost my body bracing on the overhead filler pass and ended up with a good sized slag pocket that I wasn't allowed to grind out. He told me they looked good enough for me to retest if they failed the bend. I haven't had a full time welding job let alone a cod job in 8 years so the praise I got on my finished pieces felt great. I feel like a boxer coming out of retirement to take back the belt.
Remember the good old days when most guys smoked, that little ball of fire would find the cigarette lighter in a front shirt pocket and you would hear the screams from across the shop when their lighter would explode.. Good times
Most places I have worked at required anyone who carried a lighter, were only allowed safety lighters, like Zippo's. Mandatory dismissal if anyone happened to live through an accident like you described anyway. You couldn't even get past the guard shack at the Texaco refinery with one of those cheapo butane's when we worked there at least.
Huge thanks for this, Jody! The 6g 6010 video you posted a while back was very helpful as well.
