These self righteous people need to quit judging the book by its cover I was one of those teenagers who were reached to Christ through bands like Stryper and Petra !!!!

I discovered Stryper a few years ago and may have been instrumental in me coming to Christ. They drew a metal head like me because they could rock, and opened my mind to the possibility one spin of the record at a time. Christ reached me through them and my wonderful wife challenging my preconceptions.

Robert Sweet nailed it on the head.
"We don't tell kids to bang their heads at our shows. Let's face it, there are people who go to church and fall asleep in their pew. But, that doesn't mean as the pastor you encourage it."

That part, about people falling asleep in Church, is something that I've seen, time and time again! If a "Minister" is so boring, and droning on and on and on about the way that we should live our life before Almighty God, instead of, if you will, making his message short and sweet, then that's not ministering to the parishioners of that Church. That's taking them, in a sense of phrasing, and putting them into a bed, and reading them a bedtime story, until the next thing you know, you hear this:"Zzzzzzz.....ZZZZZ....ZZZZZ..& so on. That's not ministering! That's boring them to sleep!!!
I won't say that I agree with everything about Stryper, but let them minister to the general public, of Jesus Christ, w his saving grace and power! You never know, when that may be the ONLY TIME that some people will hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ, become a Christian...and not get put to sleep by a bunch of droning on and on about something in the process!!!

I've been a fan of Stryper since 1989 (In God We Trust was the first album I got), and EVERYONE who loved Stryper got it. None of us believed it was a "gimmick" or they were blaspheming God. This minister didn't really know a thing and just listened to the nay-sayers, and prejudged (against what The Bible says) the band. Music is a universal language. Stryper brought that and a great message to the people for the past 30 years. Obviously they've done something great!

61 yrs old, 55 yrs as a drummer, a Christian and a Fan of Stryper from day one ! I have fallen asleep in the pews many times but never during a Stryper song. The Bible does say to worship the Lord through instruments and dance! Baby Boomers started Contemporary Christian Music which started to vanish until the youth of today started to embrace it. I grew up hearing the preaching of hell fire and brimstone preachers and honestly they always seemed angry to me. My God is a loving God and I don't think it matters what path you walk to the Lord so long as you're praising his name. You can Rock your way to God as long as you cast no stones!

Stryper is not Christian music. They are Heavy Metal. They are not spreading the word of God with their songs. They are using good faith and pointing out misjudgements to people who preached heavy metal being dark and evil which is far from the truth. Heavy Metal is only music and is not condoning evil. At least not Stryper.

I have been an atheist my entire adult life and love Stryper. I first saw them live in the mid 80's on the Soldiers tour and still listen to them today. Their message never got in the way of me enjoying their music, so I don't see how headbanging and heavy music would get in the way of a Christian enjoying their message.

The Stryper guys were very classy here, they easily could have told that guy to shove it and walked off. Not really the Christian thing to do, but the fact that this Minister or whatever was so persistent in his theory that Stryper was taking kids away from religion was getting seriously annoying.

The lord stated that healthy people aren’t in need of a doctor. Stryper was taking the message to those in need of it, those who may never hear it otherwise. Why so many of these ministers disapprove of it boggles my mind. Arguably, Stryper has reached more people than the ministers ever did. Those ministers just sat in their house of worship and WAITED for people to come to them. Stryper dared to go into the unknown and reach out.

Nobody is perfect, even if any of them have stumbled here and there, the reality is that these long haired rock musicians won over a stiff, big time preacher and a crowd of retired folks with simple sincerity, the Word, and a heart for Jesus. How much more so have they won over so many lost rock and roll fans and led them to open their hearts to Jesus.

This minister is a good example of pharisitical legalism. Old legalists in the 1800s fought against the classical hymns because some of them had the same sounds as bar room tunes at the time. Yet those hymn had some of the most beautiful Christian lyrics. God is not a judge of the tune or sound just the content. Just like God doesn't judge outward appearance only the heart. Judging on the physical or sound of things is a sin. It's what christ talking about on judging. You can judge the spiritual character.

      I like Guardian too.
The Lord inhabits the praises of His people
When you're singing and praising the Lord, He's right there with you
Preachers don't like it when they can't control it and that's sad

I've been a musician for most of my life, and when I was saved and started attending church at age 12, I remember how frustrated I was with the lack of Christian rock music that I found interesting. It was so wimpy and predictable. Stryper was a literal God-send for me at the time. I was the perfect example of exactly what the band is saying in this interview.
There is absolutely no substance to Fred Nile's argument. He focused on superficial things, like their hair, gear, and head-banging, which says more about him than it does the band or Jesus and leads me to believe that he had a dicey grasp of what Jesus taught, whereas Stryper understood and were actually spreading the word to those who were not familiar with it, which required a lot of courage.

How uncomfortable the band must have been looking out at a sea of blue hair!! I'm not religious by any means, but I am a huge Stryper fan. I thought Robert defended his band and his beliefs beautifully. I have found that Christians are the first ones to turn on their own, and Fred does that without missing a beat here. No one spreads hate faster than the Christians.

Jesus said be in the world not of the world but it also says in the bible, I have become all things to all people to win over people to Christ which is exactly what Stryper has done.

Good old ray Martin, he hasn't been on tv in at least 20 years. There was an Australian comedy show that used to mock rays hair. Being it looked so shiny and solid that it was plastic. The show was called 'full frontal' and the actor that played ray was Eric bana him self, before he was a Hollywood actor

Very Hilarious but interesting interview,.. It was a time when Christians were facing each other and thought: "we´re in opposite sides"... I was there, because I belonged to a Heavy Metal Local Band in the beggining of the 90' and Stryper were our reference to keep doing it. THANKS STRYPER.

I’m 51 ! So I was a teenager in the 80’s when Stryper came out and I rem. Seeing them debut on m t v !! I thought it was great! What is wrong with head banging ! Head banging is how kids moved to music that made them feel good! Like kids in the 50’s dancing at rock show! Your feelin awesome! How can you argue with stryper trying to reach the kids that aren’t going to church or expose to god! Space ace Ron⚡️⚡️⚡️

luv Stryper, been into them since the 80's... I feel God speak through them in their music and it brings me closer to him through Jesus... Rev Nile's narrow minded view is why I left church 30 years ago and why so many religions give God a bad name, so many people turn away from the Lord when they should hold onto him and leave out the churchy legalistic rubbish they sell..

What I've found even more galling lately, is growing numbers of "Christians" claiming that playing instruments during worship is wrong, they say it changes the message of the Lyrics, what to mean the opposite? would they say the same about lyrics praising Satan meaning the opposite when put to "traditional" music? I doubt it, because it doesn't. I'm a musician, and I love the Lord, I write songs that praise God or point people to Jesus Christ. For Me being a Christian means that I need to use the gifts that God gave me for His glory. While there's music that I don't particularly get into, I don't believe that any of it is evil.

I didn't jump on the Stryper bandwagon until fairly late in life. I knew of them in the 80-90's, but wasn't a big fan. It wasn't until the 2000's, when I listened to Murder by Pride, that I really took interest in their music. Since then I've gotten all their successive albums (there have been several). Two things I'd say about them. First, if you're looking for deep spiritual teaching, Stryper's not the place to look. Get a book written by someone with a little gray hair instead. Second, though I don't recommend their songs as music for a church service, they are a go-to for any long road trip, or to play while working or relaxing.
As Christians, no doubt they surely had their failings over the years (as we all have). But on balance, I think they've run their race well and have been consistently true to what they preach. That's the highest praise I could give anybody.
