The reason why Stryper is so popular now and always has been is because their music is so well written and rocks. Every album they come out with is so good. Excellent musicians and songwriters. Hits on every album.

@@WasteSomeTimewithJasonGreen You are very welcome. It’s so refreshing to hear you do interviews like this. Michael is wrong…he is special. It takes a lot to keep that Stryper machine going, and I’m so appreciative that over the last 10 years I’ve gone to my mailbox 5 times and have had a new Stryper record waiting for me. They’ve CREATED new music when they didn’t have to. They could easily rely on their back catalog, and not put out any new music…but they don’t. They’ve created QUALITY music, like you said. New Stryper classics. I, for one, am grateful for that.

Great interview. I’ve been a Stryper fan
Since the In God we trust album. I was raised in an extremely conservative Christian background they didn’t even play musical instruments in church lol. So I had to basically hide all of my music. I think it’s incredible how the band has reached people and I pray God‘s blessing to continue on you guys.

I'm right there with you. I went to Freed Hardeman (church of Christ College) back in 85 on baseball scholarship and had a huge box of Christian metal cassettes and a few LPs. They didn't use instruments in worship either and some people went as far as to say I was sinning when listening to Christian music with instruments. I just laughed and had "Jesus Rocker" (a nick name some people gave me in a mocking way) put on the back of my social club shirt. Some times you just gotta rebel.

I listen to mostly Christian Oriented bands and a few that don't fit or quite fit in the Christian area (Impellitteri, Dream Theater, MASS). The talent in STRYPER are incredible and they have had/still have their obstacles. Michael is the visionary in the band and with his management team they achieve results. He also has one of the best voices in Hard Rock and Metal. The talent and albums released by Stryper and many other Christian Oriented bands can stand up to any other album released in the mainstream.

The line, "He got caught with his pants down he should of tighten up his bible belt." Les Carlsen and Michael Bloodgood apologized for that song the reason was it was done out of anger rather than the love of God.

Would Stryper have survived all these years without its Christian image (or schtick)??
    I think that's the $64,000 question.
I bet even the band members have their doubts...
I was pleasantly shocked to finally hear from Michael an admission that they 'sold out' during the 'Against The Law' era.
    Trust me, people felt betrayed.
Credit to Jason bc he always seems to make the most hay from these interviews...
I hope there is another future interview with Michael...

Check out Stryper Metal Mythos, by The Rageaholic. He addresses this. They could have easily cashed in & did the same thing everyone else was doing at the time, but they didn't. The Christian angle hurt & alienated them, initially, from the mainstream metal crowd. Proof that if you have the goods, it doesn't matter. From the first time I heard them, I knew they were great! I was glad that there was finally a really cool Christian band, too!

Fantastic chat. Very real down to earth conversation. I hope to see a rig rundown on what he uses in the studio and live somewhere. I am a guitarist that's into that kind of thing. Probably most of your viewers could care less about that geeky guitar stuff. I really enjoyed this chat.

Hope Stryper is around for along time but when before this album. Micheal does a record with Iconic and the Robert and Perry does a record for Clean Break so put them together you get Iconic CleanBreak. So it makes people think that this is for sure the last album. Glad to hear they plan to not end it yet.

The last 5 albums have been as good or better than Soldiers and To Hell...they have been on an absolute tear. LOVE the new album, second only to Even The Devil Believes in my book.

Thank you Michael for so many years of great music, it's funny you were an afterthought for the band and probably got a chance just as a goof. Little did the metal World know they were about to witness greatness both vocals and guitar playing.
