Someone turned me on to STRYPER and PETRA (I think his name was Andy) we worked at a place called the Briar patch restaurant in Decatur, Alabama back in 1983. Have loved both bands ever since them.
Hey stryper.... RIGHT ON....IM Happy for u guys....you guys are fortunate GOD has let u live my dream...be thankful..glory to the Living GOD...IN THE NAME OF Jesus Christ
No, is it not a shame for a man to have long hair? should not Christians be judging all things? It's called discernment. Why are judging if judging is wrong? When you look, act and think like the world, the love the father is not in you. 1 John 2:15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
I remember when I was just a kid, a lot of bands ( "devil worshipers" ) were judged harshly by "Christian" teachers and their followers, but when these guys came out, the "righteous ones" came out speaking against them, for playing Christian Rock music. And as long as they played "Rock" it was a SIN. Yet, the same ones that condemned Christian rock, make their millions and buy mansions and abused their authority, God's blessings and pursued worldliness. Then they get caught and apologize for "getting caught". The hypocrisy. Many Christian churches these days could be out there "on the road" Evangelizing for Christ, but it has to take people like Stryper and others to do that. It's no longer about Evangelizing anymore, but about trying to get people to go to a certain popular "church" so you can throw your money at it and to get you convinced that if you do not become a faithful giver, God will cast you into hell. The very love of money which they so desperately need and want. For what? To help them pay their bills for Multi-million Edifices they built and got loans for and need to pay it all back. But YOU have to pay for it in the name of "Offerings". And in comparison, these guys go out there Evangelizing for Christ and have fun doing it, while God blesses them for doing what they do for God. What is wrong doing that for God? The Bible says, "Whatsoever you do or say, do it as unto the Lord".
I have the pleasure of looking at striper at night in July 1 year and my world changed and I like to thank striper for that's. Jesus is more than what everybody says he is
Ross started on Almost Live in Seattle before getting this gig. I always thought he was a glib smartass but he is a pretty good interviewer. Fallon and Conan could take a few lessons on when not to interrupt.
How is it that the interviewer couldn’t understand any of the lyrics in that clip they showed? Michael Sweet sings and his diction is good. He doesn’t scream lyrics and he doesn’t have vocal distortion. The only way he didn’t understand the lyrics is because he wasn’t listening. Also, he should’ve done a little more research. Stryper must have gotten so tired of constantly having to defend themselves against people who made assumptions without doing even listening to a single song. And Stryper has outlasted their critics because they’re still at it, actually making some of the best stuff of their career - harder than ever!
Well you always question and mock what you don't understand and can't control. The reason "the church" went after Stryper, ironically, is bc the church wanted to brand itself as some sort of Christian Country Club, where only "holy rollers", or the "holier than thous" are accepted. They didn't understand, nor ATTEMPT to understand Stryper, and what they were doing, and the fact that Stryper didn't fit into their "religious dogma bread box", so if you don't understand or can't control something or someone, then you mock them and cast them out. Not to mention churches were losing the attention of their youth kids to entities like Stryper bc kids and teens related to Stryper the way out parents related to Elvis back in the mid to late 50's and early 60's. Our grandparents generation hated Elvis bc of the way he danced and drove girls crazy, and they saw him as a danger to girls bc he was an object of last for them bc of his stage dancing and antics. I just turned 50 and I wasn't raised in a Christian home at all, nor did we EVER attend church. But, I LOVED hard rock and metal, with my favorite band then, and now, being Iron Maiden. So, I was already into the hair bands back in the 80s as a teenager, and then one of my friends our 8th grade year in 1986 introduced me to Stryper and it blew me away, and even I actually said, "THIS is a Christian band?!?!" I always thought Christian music was supposed to sound like Amy Grant, Michael W. Smith and so forth, so when I heard Stryper I WANTED MORE bc it freaking rocked! I bought the To Hell with the Devil cassette tape with my allowance and never looked back, I was hooked forever. Then when In God We Trust came out in 1988, I got it as soon as it was released. I even remembered where I was the day Always there for You debuted on MTV! But yeah, it was always a head scratcher to me that religious groups, churches as a whole and Christians went after Stryper the way they did. I was like, "OK, I 'get' why you maybe went after bands like Kiss and AC⚡DC (grew up listening to both as well), but why in the world would you go after a Christian rock band that is singing about Jesus Christ?!?" It's almost like if the church strayed from the Amy Grant's and Michael W. Smiths of the world, that was sacrilege in itself lol. Like those were the staples an standards of what church/Christian music should be lol. I tell people all the time that the entire Christian music industry owes ANY mainstream success to Stryper, bc without them being the first ever Christian Rock Band on constant MTV rotation and their radio play, them Christian music would've never been discovered mainstream, let alone become as mainstream as its become. Keep in mind too, there weren't any Christian music or Christian rock music stations back then either. Back then most Christian music stations were on AM radio only and were basically church choirs singing the same verse of How Great thou Art at nauseum lol Basically, Stryper paved the way for mainstream Christian music the way Elvis did for rock-n-roll.
NO ! SHAME ON YOU ! HOW JUDGEMENTAL CAN YOU BE ? YOU THINK JESUS HAD SHORT HAIR ? Sorry but doubt it. Its not like were salons and barbers back then and God looks at the heart, not the appearance ! Don't judge lest thou be judged !
These clothes, the hair...it's all ridiculous. Robert always reminded me of Heather Thomas. In retrospect the 80s were a terrible decade for music. And fashion. And hair-dos.
The Bible clearly states...judge a ministry or a believer or church, ect... by the fruit they bare. I am disgusted by fellow Christian's putting down God's workers (harvest is ready but the workers are few) Watch out... don't judge! It's an order in His word! It's easy to cut fellow believers behind the computer screen! Clearly you need God's love, all I see from behind your screen is an accuser. The accuser of the breatheren is Satan himself. Which side are you on?
Heather Thomas? You mean Locklear... what ever...the Bible says "if you can do all these things (speak in tongues ect.) And don't have LOVE... you are just a cymbal clanging in the wind. Start with Love and take Jesus Christ's teaching for real. The Pharisees got in Jesus but they couldn't understand because they were not born again. I am doing this in love because I used to hate them when I was in a Satanic metal band in the early 80's in Hollywood with a record deal and you know what? Mike and Oz prayed right there backstage at Steelers' show case (Ron Keel) for the record label in 84. I became the bassist for Robert Sweet's solo efforts and played in other projects. Recorded at Ice T's home studio and Gilby Clark's home studio from Guns and Roses. I thank God for the braveness and boldness Stryper solidifies! God bless your heart and may God Almighty be in your heart and posting, In Jesus' name... Ray Kilsdonk former RSweet bassist.
You go bro, Justin ask God for discernment and wisdom before you spew such sarcasm on our brothers and sisters in Christ. We really do not need more hate but God's love in this world.
It was the 80's ! Every band out there did it ! I can't stand it when people are so judgemental . I just saw STRYPER AND BELIEVE ME, THEY'RE ALL MEN AND HAVE WIVES AND FAMILIES.
I love how Michael and Robert remind the interviewer that being obedient to God is more important than fame or money. Seek first the Kingdom of God...
..80's rules ! ..and stryper still rocks
yes they do, my son and I just saw them in Seattle and they rocked the house
Thank you for helping me stay close

Stryper is actually heavier than Metallica the past 20 years
"Whatsoever you do or say, Do it as unto The Lord".
