I was actually one of the Commandoes who was on this exercise, and have been lucky enough to go on past exchanges to America. The 6 ESB guys are some of the nicest blokes you will ever come across and have a work ethic to match. Never has there been any form of confrontation between 131 or 6 ESB, they treat us like sapper brothers and we in turn treat them similarly. The whole point of this exercise is to hone various elements of our role - Combat Engineering, assault skills etc so that should we operate in war together, we can do so in a fluid manner. All the "my black cat is blacker than yours" talk is unhelpful and just creates unnecessary animosity between brothers and allies. Of course there are areas where we are superior, but there are areas where they are the SME's and we have the opportunity to learn. But never once have the Americans looked to point score against us, they pass on what they can in a humble and generous manner. Joint Anglo/American exercises like Red Dagger and Black Alligator are highly valued by both forces and all this talk of one being better than the other is superfluous. We are different forces, with different training methods but very similar ideology. If we can learn from each other, and the knowledge gained allow us to beat a common enemy then surely that's a good thing. Got so much respect for my American brothers. I give them as much respect and love that I’ll give to any Brit brother. Completely loved training with you guys
As mucmuch as love arguing with the Brits...I sure do respect them more than any other, I think its because of the familiarity and similarity of our two societys
For those who might be confused by the photo for the video the gentleman on the rope is Royal Artillery in the 29 commando regiment which is army commandos gives them the right to place their royal artillery cap badge onto a green beret, there is also PARA artillery at 7 PARA RHA which gives them the right to place the royal horse artillery cap badge onto the maroon beret while still wearing the RA/RHA TRF
The US officer was very eloquent and complementary. He is correct in referring to the "Army" and not "Navy", as 131 Commando are from the Royal Engineers, although they have completed the Commando course at CTC.
Ross Goodwin Because it says so in the script below the heading (which is wrong): "British Army Commandos of 131 Independent Commando Squadron in southern England, Jun 7 through Jun 20, 2015." And its actually in the first 5 seconds of the film ....
No they're just apart of 3 Commando Brigade, granted the RM make up the bulk of the Brigade but alot of the support elements army commando units such as 29 Cdo Royal Artillery who are 100% British army
Mate, I wish they had done that back in the 80's when I was in the British Army, it would have been great to have gone over and trained with the US troops.. Definitely would have tried their grub! I did manage to get to Canada, so nearly made it to the US, well sort of. Lol.
I would like to say thanks to all the fighting men and women who fight to keep us safe. Im not a soldier so im not going to speculate on things i dont understand. We have so many fine soldiers . what does it matter whos the best us brits and americans can be happy knowing we as allies have the two best military's in the world defending each other thats all that matters
Royal Marines are not special forces, just extremely well trained infantry. The only special forces within the RM used to be SBS which is now open to all ranks of all services. I served 25 years within the RM before retiring in 2001
Most of the obstacle-course looked like really good fun! ( Ok, probably not so much fun if you had to do it at (say) 5:30 in the morning but anyway............. ) Lots of variety with the obstacles.
He will be in by Sept 2017, one more test to pass but he is so committed its unreal. One proud Dad. Bless all Marines British and US and all our forces.
I trained with the USMC several Times an have been on ops with them. Generally good guys however, I was surprised by the lack of professionalism on ex. Purple Star in 1996 when airframe was grounded due to weather. I actually saw a bloke throw his weapon away and yell "this is bullshit". others were having similar tantrums. that said, others were as I would expect and operated effectively and professionally throughout. some absolute screamers though...
+Barry Buddon And what is so wrong with being a Crab? Don't those of us who served in that Arm deserve respect? Who do the Khakis call on when the shit hits the fan and need air cover? Oh wait .. why is it called 'AIR' cover?... I did nearly 15 in, MD'd out with my 3 up in '85 and did a little jaunt to the South Atlantic in '82. I may have been a bit slow on the ground when attached but I knew how to arm and maintain a fucking Harrier so it could CAS whoever needed it. So where did you serve?
Nothing wrong with being a crab.. accept for when you try and give it big licks, like most RAF do. (See your comment and first comment for example) I believe they call for a pilot to come and drop some bombs.. so unless you're a pilot i hardly see how you can claim glory for someone else's work. You knew how to arm a harrier? Well done, Thats like someone in the factory that makes sniper rifles claiming the kill that a sniper gets with that weapon isn't it. You helped, but please. Don't try and claim someone else's glory.
Barry Buddon Wow... that is some re-write of what I said. I 'gave it big licks' eh? Don't they make ice cream in Scotland? First off I have made ONE comment on this Thread not two. Can you count? Secondly I was responding to YOUR sarccy crap about the RAF to sort of balance the conversation. You know Free Speech and all that shit .... And thirdly where the FUCK did I 'try and claim someone else's glory' ?? Oh and if the Oiks like me and my Oppos didn't maintain the aircraft and fuel and tool them the Khakis wouldn't SEE any fucking CAS would they? Twat! Anyway I had the great privilege in my last years throwing Paras and other Khakis out of perfectly good Fat Alberts..... At least they had some professionalism and respect about them. Try and grow some balls you Mong and learn from them. So again I ask my simple question. You know the one you avoided? Where have YOU served and how long have you been in then? Oh sorry. My bad. That was TWO questions ...
1chish Yes, gave it big licks, remember when you felt the need to give me your life story despite the fact i don't give a shit? 'Who do the khakis call when they need CAS?' OMG! Is it you? You absolute hero!! I know you've made one comment, which is why if you read it carefully i said.. 'YOUR comment and the FIRST comment, referring to.. wait for it.. the FIRST comment, the other crowbag, funnily enough.. giving it big licks. Ha! Well If I'm out on the ground, and i need CAS who will i call? An aircraft maintainer, or a pilot? hmmmmmm a pilot i think. So don't try and give it 'who you gonna call' because unless you're the person to respond to the call, you are 100% trying to claim the glory of the pilot that actually goes out and provides CAS. not the glorified petrol attendant that spouts off on youtube. Standard argument of a REMF, "But we help out just as much" "If nobody issues the rations the war wouldn't be won so we're just as important wahhhhhhh" What, do you want a medal? You watched some actual soldiers do their job, must have been great for you. I want to tell you, but I find it quite amusing that you don't know yet you still continue to argue.
As much as people would like to argue, the RMC are better trained whereas the USMC have better eqiptment and numbers. One thing that stands british soldiers out is that they are trained to function both in and out of a machine whereas other troops aren't.
Crow T. Robot Actually a better comparison would be USMC Raiders/MARSOC to SBS. The training to be a Raider/MARSOC is quite extensive and long. The Royal Marine Commandos while a very good unit combines much of their training. A US Marine, whether he's going to be an aircraft mechanic or a Raider starts in boot camp and after that goes on to their occupational training etc...The Royal Marines combine boot camp with infantry training. If I remember correctly and if it hasn't changed, every RMC has to do at least 2 years in the Infantry before moving on to something else.
If you want to compare SBS to an American unit, wouldn't the apt comparison be to SEAL? Or, are we at the point of recognizing that these comparisons are flawed?
Interesting to hear the American soldier at the end explain the differences between US and UK training, saying that a US Marine course is roughly 1 minute in length with no water and UK Marine course is 4 minutes with water and that the UK marines are trained on all terrain and to be quick and able to fire at any moment, while the US Marines don't train an all terrain and make it from point A to point B before firing. Interesting. Nice view of the UK countryside too. Looks great.
good video but not royal marines , army commandos . the green beret doesnt mean you are a royal marine just means you are commando qualified , look for the globe and laurel cap badge , that means they are a royal marine
Got news for you all .... they are NOT Britain's Royal Marines Commandos .... They are British ARMY Commandos ....... a world of difference ! The Royal Marines do 32 intensive weeks of Recruit Training to become Royal Marines. Some members of the British Army and Royal Navy do an "All Arms Commando Course" (a much shorter version of the 32 weeks RM Commando Course) so they are up to speed to work with the Royal Marines ..... and guess who trains them during their few weeks AACC ? ..... Yes, the superior Royal Marines ..... a world of difference indeed. The Americans are from the United States Marine Corps, another incredible force ! SuperNutkin

It’s great the USMC admitting the Royal Marine Commando obstacle course is much much harder and more extensive then the USMC course. I don’t know why we compare the two, one is like a ranger, one is a USMC. Respect to both though
Britain is really a shining example of not having the numbers or firepower (no offense yall, we just put a lot of money into that sorta thing) but they still create some of the most tactically trained soldiers in the world. Glad they're our allies
To actually become a British Royal Marine as a US citizen in the military is awful tough. You are first chosen by the Brits to go to Britain and become a British citizen for that year as the Brit exchange Marine is here as a US citizen. There are dang few. Col. John Ripley USMC (deceased) is one of them. FYI---Col. Ripley is the only US Marine in the United States Army Ranger Hall of Fame.
The recent example of a British political creature calling the USA 'our oldest ally' had a few reporters asking what he meant, had the status of Portugal changed? The US and UK have been allies since early 1942 only, Portugal for centuries, long before the EU or EEC, Benelux even.
These are not the Royal Marines Commando’s this is the Royal Engineer’s of the British Army although they never seem to want to say it. They do the All Arms Commando course which is a very watered down version and proves that these attached units can support the Royal Marines. The standards between Royal Marines and Army attached units is still gapped as the RMC are more professional and work to a higher bar and the majority of them have no ego which cannot be said for the All Arms personnel as they have ‘Commando’ plastered all over their clothes and never announce the actual regiments name instead using the ‘Commando’ tag instead unlike Royal Marines who simply state they are Royal Marines. 131, 24 or 59 Commando your actually Royal Engineers and that is what your T-shirts should say.
Lots of Brit/USA hate on the comments. Who would you choose to go to war with? I'd choose we Brits, our American cousins, The Canucks, Aussies and Kiwis over anyone else.
Wrong brother British army . Each regiment has . Royal in the beginning IE Royal artillery . Royal Anglican regiment . Basically the British army . regiments are given Royal as a honour .
I've ran numerous obstacle courses after serving in the military and retiring from law enforcement. At first you think it's not that bad, but once you start running on one you think to yourself WTF did I get myself into..
Bloodhound 092 I take it you're one of those pathetic beta male social justice warriors who thinks there are no physical differences between men and women? You miss that study which showed mixed gender infantry marine units are vastly inferior in combat effectiveness to male only units? Keep living in your deluded bubble of progressive utopia, beta male. Royal Marines > USMC.
Please tell me, what have to royal marines done for the world itself and tell me how they've fought in the wars. Then tell me what the Marines have done and how they've fought for their country. I know there is physical differences in men and women, but women can be just as good as men.
@@sunkeneyes9564That plan was developed by the army as a contingency in case of invasion on the Atlantic Coast. Not as a plan to initiate a war with Britain. Why would someone need to bring that up as a comment on this video? Completely unrelated.

Some, if not all the British shown are from the Royal Engineers, although they have completed the all arms commando course and can therefore wear the green beret but with a R E cap badge.
There is a Royal Marine Engineers barracks and training establishment in Chatham, Kent, England. It was also a Royal Navy base for hundreds of years, it's worth looking up.
Hahaha yeah not funny They train each other so what? And Royal Marines aren't a real Marine force they are a sub tier special operations unit they can't be compared to a real Marine force
@@titanslayer7789 Not quite, they're infantry with specialised skills. They're still line infantry in essence. And these wern't bootnecks. They were army commandos.

I use to stand by firmly that the brits have better trained military, america kinda shit on the European countries in the corps games the last couple years. "They're aggressive, don't stop coming, advance quickly in ridiculous terrain and they're bloody good shots" keep in mind the US Marine were using the British weapon platforms as it is held there last year
+BEANZz GAMEZz Is that why we beat them for the Duke of Edinburgh Cup in 2014, their own Skill at Arms match in 2006 and the Inter Corps Cup last year?
+BEANZz GAMEZz He also conveniently forgot to mention that after narrowly losing the skill at arms at lympstone (2006) The RM went on to beat the USMC in a simular skill of arms, (held later that same year) in America. But ofcourse; that does not fit in with his anglophobic agenda. lol
Why are their so few videos of military cooperation between the US and Royal Marines considering that without question the UK and the US are close if not the closet allies to each other. Plus being marines and all you'd think that they would train like this with each other more often.
There are more comments about how people are comparing the two groups than people actually doing that. And the comments that DO do that are pure cancer. Anyways, cheers to the Anglo/American friendship

Army commandos are army soldiers who pass the All Arms Commando Course, which is 13 weeks long and open to armed forces personnel only. This allows them to wear the green beret and serve in commando units like 3 or 42 Commando Brigades. Royal Marine Commandos are marines which operate under the Royal Marine Corps, a component of the Royal Navy. They enter as civilians and undergo a 32-week basic training course, leaving as Royal Marine Commandos. Hope this clears it up

That's also why you get Navy personnel with the green commando beret and the simple brass anchor-in-circle, or whatever is appropriate to their rank.
The US officer was very eloquent and complementary. He is correct in referring to the "Army" and not "Navy", as 131 Commando are from the Royal Engineers, although they have completed the Commando course at CTC.
I love all this joint exercise business. I hope to experience this kind of stuff during my training.
Pilgrim2501 yo, you go for it lad, I want to be either a royal Marine or in the british paratroopers but I'm only 15
@@Leo-S-Ellen as am I. Thinking of joining the USMC.

YASS TWO OF THE BEST MARINE CORES IN THE WORLD!
+Ross Goodwin
These aren't British Royal Marines. They are British Army Commandos .....
how do you know?
Ross Goodwin
Because it says so in the script below the heading (which is wrong):
"British Army Commandos of 131 Independent Commando Squadron in southern England, Jun 7 through Jun 20, 2015."
And its actually in the first 5 seconds of the film ....
Ain't it the 131 Commando's of the Royal Marines?
No they're just apart of 3 Commando Brigade, granted the RM make up the bulk of the Brigade but alot of the support elements army commando units such as 29 Cdo Royal Artillery who are 100% British army
It's good to see the 2 best army's in the world training together
Not army thou
Marines are a department of Navy and do not form part of the army. There are Army commandos that form part of 3 Commando Brigade though
Mate, I wish they had done that back in the 80's when I was in the British Army, it would have been great to have gone over and trained with the US troops.. Definitely would have tried their grub! I did manage to get to Canada, so nearly made it to the US, well sort of. Lol.
Chris Wilde Don’t tell a Canadian that.😂😂

I would like to say thanks to all the fighting men and women who fight to keep us safe. Im not a soldier so im not going to speculate on things i dont understand. We have so many fine soldiers . British ,American, Australian ,new Zealand ,Canadian ect. Shame there are so many immature children trying to piss over what these fine individuals do. Thankyou very much to all those that contribute to our defense.
We Yanks are lucky to have the Brits as our greatest allies.
USMC and Royal Marines have been working side by side for many years. The Royal Marines are among the finest in the world.
it is so nice to see our good friends training and working together to share experience and harden our armed forces the Americans are British mixed with everything lol.
what does it matter whos the best us brits and americans can be happy knowing we as allies have the two best military's in the world defending each other thats all that matters
Royal Marines and US Marines, just the best Many similar traditions By land and by sea and now by air too
Pfft the SAS would make them look like 8 year olds with cap guns.
+GamerDares Wins true
Except Royal Marines are special forces unlike the us marines
Grey's Airsoft MARSOC are special forces Naval US marines...
But yes RMC are special forces.
Royal Marines are not special forces, just extremely well trained infantry. The only special forces within the RM used to be SBS which is now open to all ranks of all services. I served 25 years within the RM before retiring in 2001
Awesome job to our UK brothers and sisters. Love working with you all.
strong as one💪 but powerful together👥💪💪 🎌
Most of the obstacle-course looked like really good fun! ( Ok, probably not so much fun if you had to do it at (say) 5:30 in the morning but anyway............. ) Lots of variety with the obstacles.
Honestly looks like some fun :)
Josh Janeiro easy to say when sitting behind a screen
Stop the shit guys, Im English , my son is about to join the Royal Marines and I hope he has the USMC at his side, he will be at yours.
They’re not Royal Marines they’re Army commandos. They do a short AACC all arms commando course.
most people commenting on this video prob dont even know what a fucking trigger is
+Jonathan Tyler whats a trigger?

And what is so wrong with being a Crab?
(See your comment and first comment for example)
I believe they call for a pilot to come and drop some bombs.. so unless you're a pilot i hardly see how you can claim glory for someone else's work.
You knew how to arm a harrier? Well done, Thats like someone in the factory that makes sniper rifles claiming the kill that a sniper gets with that weapon isn't it. You helped, but please. Don't try and claim someone else's glory.
Barry Buddon
Wow... that is some re-write of what I said.
Standard argument of a REMF, "But we help out just as much" "If nobody issues the rations the war wouldn't be won so we're just as important wahhhhhhh"
What, do you want a medal? You watched some actual soldiers do their job, must have been great for you.
I want to tell you, but I find it quite amusing that you don't know yet you still continue to argue.
I think George Washington would have a smile on his face to British and US troops working together.
As much as people would like to argue, the RMC are better trained whereas the USMC have better eqiptment and numbers. One thing that stands british soldiers out is that they are trained to function both in and out of a machine whereas other troops aren't.
I completely agree. RMC training is not only longer, but also harder.
Well, that's an opinion. US Marines are trained to function out of machines as well.
That's an inapt comparison. The comparison should be Royal Marine Commandos to USMC Raiders or MARSOC.
Thanks for this. We would have given everything to do this in the early 1980's. I notice the US Unit is not a grunt unit.
Got news for you all .... they are NOT Britain's Royal Marines Commandos ....
They are British ARMY Commandos ....... a world of difference !
The Royal Marines do 32 intensive weeks of Recruit Training to become Royal Marines.
Some members of the British Army and Royal Navy do an "All Arms Commando Course"
(a much shorter version of the 32 weeks RM Commando Course) so they are up to speed to work with the Royal Marines ..... and guess who trains them during their few weeks AACC ? ..... Yes, the superior Royal Marines ..... a world of difference indeed.
The Americans are from the United States Marine Corps, another incredible force !

Nice to see joint training
To actually become a British Royal Marine as a US citizen in the military is awful tough. You are first chosen by the Brits to go to Britain and become a British citizen for that year as the Brit exchange Marine is here as a US citizen. There are dang few. Col. John Ripley USMC (deceased) is one of them. FYI---Col. Ripley is the only US Marine in the United States Army Ranger Hall of Fame.

3.32 - anyone notice the barrel?
It weird because at one point in time we absolutely LOATHED each other. Now we're the closest of allies.
The recent example of a British political creature calling the USA 'our oldest ally' had a few reporters asking what he meant, had the status of Portugal changed?
The US and UK have been allies since early 1942 only, Portugal for centuries, long before the EU or EEC, Benelux even.
This was on Dartmoor, if anyone is intrested.
Redstone Technician thank you I was just about to ask
No it wasn't 😂 there's no ocean on dartmoor. Dartmoor is landlocked.
It will be Commando training centre in Lympstone, Devon
I don't think you would be Ill served by the South Korean Roc's either!

whats the difference mate
Army commandos are army soldiers who pass the All Arms Commando Course, which is 13 weeks long and open to armed forces personnel only. This allows them to wear the green beret and serve in commando units like 3 or 42 Commando Brigades.
Royal Marine Commandos are marines which operate under the Royal Marine Corps, a component of the Royal Navy. They enter as civilians and undergo a 32-week basic training course, leaving as Royal Marine Commandos.
Hope this clears it up
