- British Army Royal Gurkha Rifles vs U.S. Marines - Mock Battle between U.S Marines and Allies
British Army Royal Gurkha Rifles, Lithuanian forces and U.S. Marines from the Black Sea Rotational Force conduct Exercise Saber Strike at the Pabrade Training Area, Lithuania, June 9, 2015. The allies coordinated multipronged attacks on enemy positions during the exercise More than 7,000 service members from NATO and participating nations will join in Saber Strike exercises across Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Poland between June 8-19. Approximately 3,000 service members are currently locked in a series of highly-realistic training scenarios with their U.S. Marine partners in Lithuania.
The Royal Gurkha Rifles (RGR) is a rifle regiment of the British Army, forming part of the Brigade of Gurkhas. Unlike other regiments in the British army, soldiers are recruited from Nepal, which is neither a dependent territory of the United Kingdom nor a member of the Commonwealth. Their motto is: Better to die than live a coward.

Superb fearless soldiers , and out of combat they are gentlemen ! I hope the UK continue the Gurkha Rifles regiment and continue to recognise their capabilities.
You Gurkha Rifles are welcome in Great Britain!

Anyone that has done 4 years in the military should be entitled to stay in the UK.
@Justin Time Reread my post again, because you don't seem to understand it.
@Justin Time Then reread my post, because I agreed with you.
Alan Lee and since when were Gurkhas Muslim? 🙄
@Justin Time it was known by everyone as the Indian Army not the British Indian army. Thankfully India is an independent nation now.
I am from Nepal. I'm proud of Royal Gurkhas!!!!
You have much to be honestly proud of!
The British are honoured to have The Gurkhas serving in their forces. We respect you and are grateful to you all for the tremendous bravery you have shown and the sacrifices you have made. Thank you, to you and your fellow Gurkhas.
Sujan Rai Quick notice Sujan, to be a "Royal" Gurkha you must actually have been enlisted as a soldier within the regiment. You can be known as a Gurkha if you are from their mountain region but other than that you are just Nepalese.
Royal comes into play when you are enlisted for the British Armed Forces.
Here are some examples from the UK:
Royal Artillery Regiment
Royal Marine Regiment
Royal Signals
Etc etc
The point of having Royal in the name is to signify that it is under service to the crown aka the royal family.
You see my point.
Sujan Rai respect to you my friend, you're welcome to great Britain any time you like
FxProGaming and the point of telling sujan rai all this is what, if he said he was a royal ghurka then he must be and already knew what you said prior to your comment, are you a ghurka, how do you know all this unless you read into this
I'm ex British Army and have done exercises with both Gurkhas and US Marines. I would happily fight alongside either, however people shouldn't try to compare them as they have different fighting styles. Use the Marines if you want to flatten an objective, use the Gurkhas if you need a more harassing/guerilla style. Both are very good at what they do.
Good post. Thank you.
More like: "Use USMC if you dont like a postcode, use Ghurkhas if you dont like a certain group of people"
@Just me Just me yes but gorkhas given their size, quickness, stamina, stealthiness harassing/guerilla tactics should well suit them, not to mention the logistics side of things, they can endure and maintain more with the amount of food they can carry
Very good COMMENT sir
Thank you
@Just me Just me well everything u said just points to US (regular) army being more effective with toys, while gurkha are more effective without toys. Isn't the definition of guerrilla fighting independent fighting small against larger group with unorthodox tactics?
And I think gurkhas definitely has advantage in stealthy communication. They aren't even scolded in training.
And I'm not sure if the regular us army gets more night training than gurkhas.

Sargent Dipprasad Pun. Awarded the Conspicuous Gallantry Cross for single handedly fending off an assault of 30 Taliban fighters September 2010. Over the 17 minutes night time skirmish where the enemy attacked his position from three sides, he used more than 400 rounds, 17 hand grenades, a Claymore mine, and even fought one Taliban with the tripod of his machine gun.
_“At first I was a bit scared, and I thought definitely they are going to kill me. But as soon as I started firing, that feeling went away.”_
And that sounds totally incredible, almost impossible to believe - then you have to realise that sort of story about them isn't that unusual -
In 2011, 35-year-old retired Gurkha Bishnu Shrestha was riding a train in India when 40 robbers stopped the train and began stealing passengers' belongings. Still carrying his kukri knife, the Gurkha took on the robbers, themselves armed with knives, swords and pistols. Shrestha managed to kill three robbers and injure eight others, which persuaded the other robbers to flee. The retired soldier also saved another passenger from rape.
Yes, a single bloke, armed with just a big knife took on 40 baddies, some with bigger knives and some with guns - and he won. Sounds like a Jackie Chan film and not believable - yet it is true.

You guys might have not heard about this. A young Private from the Royal Gurkha rifles, hacked off a high value Taliban commanders head and then carried the head back to base as a proof of kill. 😂
Holden Toodicks they were under heavy assault and the private made a smart choice, I can just imagine the looks on the faces of his superiors and everyone else when he walks into the barracks drenched in blood, walks into his superiors office and plops the severed head on his desk, and when asked about the rest of the body he replies “begging your pardon sir we left it a few miles away, instead choosing to bring the head for identification” “private how did you get back here with just the head?” “it was easy when his screams scared them away”
Tragic how the Gurkahs were treated by British politicians. They deserved a full British military pension from the start as well as citizenship if they so wished.
They should get double. The pension debacle was a slur on them and the public of britain who revere the Gurkhas. Typical westminster myopic thinking and a stain on history.

They are arguably the most respected soldiers in the world.
They get all the respect they deserve from the public, just a shame a lot of the arseholes higher up don't feel the same way.
@Eli Rules The Marines won in a mock battle, on a real battlefield it would be different. They are not titled as special forces, they are a normal army regiment. One of the best on the planet. Wind your fucking neck in when talking about matters you so clearly no nothing about.....
Well from an English man.. you have my upmost respect.. I'll do anything for you guys
The Gurkhas really couldn't get their heads around the concept of 'mock' battle! They were in there for real!
+Gordon Burns that is the rule number 1. The more you sweat in practice. The lesser you sweat in battle.

Gurkhas don't fuck around, trust me on that
Gordon Burns I believe that the Marines were doing it for more of a learning experience than to win. The Gurkhas were in it to win.
I don't wanna sound stupid here but mock battles are supposed to make you better, not take it easy and do it just for the sake of it. But respect to all allies soldiers. No offense, but you are too naive if you think you should take it easy on mock battles.
Respect to the Gurkhas they make Britain proud and some amazing Victoria Cross stories, one Gurkha apparently had the misfortune of losing two friends against the Japanese then being stuck in a trench fighting by himself with no support, they kept throwing grenades in and he kept throwing them back, eventually one went off in his hand and took out one side of his body, that didn't stop him either, he kept fighting with his left hand and teethe to reload a bolt action rifle, when the reinforcements got to his trench they were expecting to find him dead but he was alive with about 40 something dead enemy outside his trench, if that don't say Gurkhas are hard as nails I dunno what does.
+danny1ft1 I got some facts wrong but if anyone wants to see the man that said "Come and fight a Gurkha!" and slew 31 Japanese soldiers while insanely injured, shot and blown up and about 5ft tall lol and hard as nails to boot, here is a link. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1338429/Gurkha-Lachhiman-Gurung-Victoria-Cross-hero-dies-aged-93.html

In WW2 a Gurkha got left behind in a failed attack on a Japanese held island as they thought he was dead along with the rest of his platoon who were ambushed by the Japanese. 4 months later a mixture of Australian and US forces tried again to take the island only this time they found it completely empty apart from one Gurkha. He killed every Japanese soldier on the island and took their supplies and ammo however when he ran out of ammo he killed them with his khukuri and lived off the islands fruit and hunted wild animals along with using a river as his water supply. Bloody legend

My dad was on exercise in the late 60's, he was in the Royal Artillery. He fell asleep at his battery and had his boot laces cut by a Gurkha. My dad said that it was their way of letting him know they were there. He didn't fall asleep at his battery again.
Haha I hope this is true
I have no reason to suspect that my dad was telling a tall tale. He had nothing but the greatest respect for these amazing warriors.
christopher munton No disrespect meant im not calling your dad a liar. But that was an amazing thing that only a gurkha would do lol i hope it is true tho
i heard these happen alot to with the australian army
An uncle fought in Italy. He said they were told to tie their boots a certain way. Gurkhas would patrol, silently crawl up behind a soldier and feel for the boot laces. If tied wrong out came the kukri.
He also said they would come up to a German trench, and sometimes kill every second soldier, or other times kill all but one.
I'm a former Royal Marine who has served alongside the Royal Gurkha Rifles in the Far East and I wouldn't like to fight them, they are truly awesome warriors. In the Falklands conflict, the British told the Argentinians at Port Stanley they were sending in The Royal Gurkha Rifles and Port Stanley surrendered.
their own commanders told them the Gurkhas would eat them.
When I joined the military in early 90’s the first thing i can remember on day 1 was the nco told us the way we had to lace are boots .he told us that if we are on stag it would stop us from getting our throats cut . Because a Gurkha could crawl up to your position check our laces and we wouldn’t know they had been there . They are humble warriors

Absolute privilege to have Gurkhas willing to fight for us. You guys have become synonymous with the British Army and we are immensely grateful to every one of you.
Gurkhas are ancient soldiers equipped with modern weapons. Which makes them truly terrifying...
One night after D-Day, a squad commanded by my father's best friend had moved forwards to reconnoitre German troop movements. As they were laid up, he felt what he thought was a snake crawl across his gaiter. Looking back down his prone body towards his boots he saw a flash of white teeth. Reporting back to the Company commander he was informed that a platoon of Gurkhas were operating in the area. The "snake" had been a Gurkha trailing fingertips over his gaiter to detect whether it was a German one or not. He asked what would have happened if he had been a German and was told that the flash of teeth would have been the last thing he saw.
WOW
Gurkhas are selected very carefully. I think it was about 2,000 young and healthy men came forward to join the Regiment and out of those 2,000. Only 300 were selected. Hand picked, the best of the best.
To be more precise, around 20 thou youngsters participate and only 150 make it as a Gurkha soldier
I think the last one I heard of was 36 applicants for each availible place
MrGeorocks the documentary I watched said that, I dunno wether it was regional or something. I know only the very best get picked.
It's true, the recruiters are extremely elitist when it comes to this.
You can say it regional. Town called "Dharan" in east and "Pokhara" in west. But now days, "best" don't even apply. They take the best among the applicants.
The Gurkhas are probably the closest your ever going to get to a Spartan warrior.
Actually its the othet way around
Yes just not gay lol
@Deus Vult that is why all crusades but one failed to take Jerusalem.
The Spartans were overrated. Well trained standing army, but they also fed of propaganda which made them seem stronger than they were.
Vikings are no people but a profession, what you are refering to are danes, and the vikings were only realy strong against low guarded areas but had the same problems as any other gainst a standing army.
A little insight in the spartans. They were regarded less than the sacred band of thebes (a group of 300 gay lovers). And often only were so succesfull because they were a standing army whos soldiers were nothing but that. Most of greece armies were rallied when needed, and had other professions only beeing soldiers spare time.
That is also why rome was so successfull later against many smaller regional powers as they had a professional army against farmers with arms.
A little insight in the Vikings. The vikings as said before didn't exists as such but were a danes or nordmannen. Vikings only refered to a group of people who went raiding. They earned ther reputation espcially in the 1 century and mostly because they didn't stick to continental rules of war. that often ment they didn't see monestaries and churches as protected and fought those people. With the myth surronding the longships, the christians assosiating the ships with serpents and the danes ruthlessness much about their strength today is overexagurated.
The biggest factor contributing to the end of raiding danes were --- tam tam taaam, protection details and better defensive structures of small villages and towns as well as the rise of professional armies in middle europe. And again the vikings had the same problems against a professional army as any other army did and as spartans did beforehand.
And at last the Crusaders. Which are you talking about? See no question about knights on horseback beeing quite a force to reckon with, but not "the best ever". Every military force had their counter. Or are you talking about the child crusade which ended in everybody beeing dying before even reaching the promised land?
If we are talking about "crusaders" we are talking about a group of people who wanted to retake or defend Jerusalem. And with that, they failed misserably. Or are we talking about the navel crusades in 1390 ? That would make the crusader a marine or sailor, and they were well let's say not the best fighting force at that time.
Just to note the first official crusade was in 1096 and the last in 1396, comparind soldiers within that time span is absurd. It's like comparing a Landsknecht to a WWII Paratrooper - which type are you talking about ?
Not to say those groups didn't earn they name, but there is so much overexageration and missconception about many historical armies out there.
Not everything we see in movies is close to reality.
@big ian and that's why they only won one major battle? The Spartan army was weak and small, it's only strength was it's propaganda machine
You’d never get a Gurkha shouting, “This is Nepal!!” as he kicked someone down a well.
Imagine the enemy's face when they see the Marines and Gurkha at their doorstep
You wouldn't see the enemies face, you would see the back of their helmets as they sprinted like fuck from the field!......Hahahahaha.......

So some history about the Gurkas
After the Brits conquered India, they decided to invade Nepal in 1815, they initially thought it would have been a walk in the park. After 2 years of war and major battles, it ended in a stalemate but mutual respect on both sides. So the Brits invited them to join them.
There are 10 Gurka regiments in India when India gained independence, they are given the choice to join India or the British. 4 of the regiments joined the Brits and 6 went Indian. They were then relocated to Hong Kong (crowned colony until 1997. New Gurka recruits are then trained in HK until the handover. Now the gurkas are sent to UK for training.
Nice
My grandpa was in the British regiment that decided to leave with the British. He was first stationed in Hongkong, Singapore then in Brunei and fought in the Malaysian jungle war for over a decade and came out of it alive! It's always amazing to hear him talk about his time in the army
Not quite the British won but seeing how much of a struggle the ghurkas were thdy invited them after
Actually, it was the Gurkhas who infringed the East India Company borders.
HK Chan it didn’t end in stalemate it was a BRITISH victory Nepal gave up 1/3rd of its country and the British controlled the region
One of the great strengths of the Gurkhas is their focus when learning and it really shows in exercises such as this one when they are completely focused just as if it is not an exercise but the real thing. It is a rare and very valuable talent the importance of which cannot be overstated and all the Gurkhas seem to have it. In any situation no matter how uncertain you can be absolutely certain that they will get their part right.

Sorry but I don't know why people say it kukri some Indian and British say of kukri but it is not kukri it is khukuree
+NEPAL X 👌
+NEPAL X yeah... it is
The Gurkhas were surprisingly reserved in this. If this was real they would have charged straight at them with kukris drawn
Lucky enough to have served with a few Gurkha lads in the Royal Signals, amazing guys, dedicated, professional and excellent guys to be around. They are a credit to their land and their people.
The Gurkhas are a people who haven't been softened by modern life. They don't spend their teenage years drinking soda pop and playing video games. They are a warrior people who live in some of the harshest conditions imaginable. It's akin to recruiting troops directly from ancient Sparta and turning them into trained soldiers.
Dont say that man i play video games but my aim is sas .
We salute all you Gurkha beasts.
Gurkhas are absolute machines and great fun to be around. Did some battle PT with them a couple of months ago. Ran me into the ground. RIP me
no you didnt
A friend of mine was in the Royal Marines and on exercise "against" the Gurkhas in Central England.
He told me that he was hidden in the Cotswold Hills in a radio lorry fully equipped to detect movement around itself and was sat watching the radar screens react to the wind blowing weeds from side to side and rabbits and birds moving around.
Suddenly he heard a knock on the door???
"Surprise"... it was a fully kitted out Gurkha soldier who had evaded £100,000's worth of detection equipment to get to the door unnoticed.
Amazing people.
I remember being a coach driver(Executive coaches) Limousines style, for the Sultan of Brunei, whenever he would visit London for long durations . . . . . . .He was guarded personally and his family also by Ex- Gurkhas . . . usually, when we first met them, they were super polite, but they would always watch every move you made, after about six weeks of seeing us daily, the Trust from them was earned, and they knew you were ok . . . . . . i remember talking to one in particular in the Drivers rest room for a while, he was lovely, funny and you knew he was the real deal . . . . i did ask one question to him personally, about what made him so well thought of, and feared by so many foes? He replied, and i fell into an absolute heap . . . . . . . . `I am a natural warrior, I am a 9th Dan Origami . . . my Swan Wrap will kill you`!!!!!!!!! Omg i laughed so hard, and his smile was priceless . . . . .IT was a pleasure to have them there guarding us all . . .Amazing men!!!!!
His paper cut was probably lethal.
I'm genuinely surprised there wasn't only one Gurkha fighting (and winning) with a just few twigs and some blue tack.
Genetically, Gurkhas are born soldier, gifted, because of their country's tough geographical position, they are shaped by those natural environment to survive in any natural difficult situation. They are mixture of kindness, gentleness, very open helpful friendly, loyalty, honesty , bravery and robustness. They are the soldier who fight by the rule. Never expect cruelty and turture from them. When they are in war , they kill you because if they spared you then you kill them, and if you killed them they can not go back home to see their fiancee or lover and friend family who they had promised to return, somehow its important for them to win the war be alive and return home. They go war with promise to return home, finishing their task in the battle ground. When they kill you they never torture you, or kill you in cruelty, they just give you an instant death, either by gun or the gurkha knife , a death in a quick strike. In 18 century during the British empire, there was a most deadliest war between the empire force and the gurkhas, for days and weeks, . There was an interesting true story based on that war, a gurkhs soldier was badly injured, but he was still fighting, the british soldiers felt sorry for him,and gave him a bandage and first aid treatment, and asked him, to stay with them untill he fully recover. But he said to them , no I am alright now, I join my gurkha force and we have to fight with each other untill its end. In India a Gurkha was ruturning by train from India to Nepal, at midnight 40 robbers attacked the train, and they started to rob all the passangers of the train including the only Gurkha who was sitted next to an Indian family with their young daughter. The rubber rubbed all his hard earned money from the army service, but he still maintained his coolness. After looting him and the indian family , the rubbers wanted to rape the young girl of the indian family, they started to rip her clothes, then the young girl started to cry for help, hundreds of indian passangers were there, no body dare to mess with the armed rubbers, finally , the girl asked help crying to the Gurkha, then the Gurkha lost all his coolness instantly turned into a bad ass Gurk by pulling off his Gurkha knife blade from the holder and attacked the rubbers killing instantly, 3 rubbers right on the spot and and injuring acutely 7 others , and attacking all the rest of the rubbers with his Gurkha knife alone all by himself, seeing this rest of the rubbers who were alive and not injured yet ran off leaving all the loot behind in the train. Later this Gurkha was awarded medal for his bravery.
Therefore guys, Gurkhas are famous not because they are a good soldier, but they are famous because they are a good human, and the saviour.
369 Tubes gurkhas knife were made to kill instantly.

I'm lucky enough to live in one of the towns where the Gurkhas are stationed. Their courage and skill are soldiers is beyond doubt. But they also act with dignity, kindness and politeness in civilian live too. They carved an enormous horse out of the chalk in a hill as part of the millennium celebrations, carry out regular litter patrols and they'll even say good morning to you. Fine, fine people. Who would have thought that it was even up for discussion about letting them stay in the UK after their service.
who will win?
of course the gurkhas. what a stupid question.
gurkhas are the natural born soldiers from the hills and mountains of the himalayas while the U.S marines are are born and raised in the modern environment. the poor boys from hills and mountains of nepal will easily win the boys from the U.S who drives cars and eat burgers and pizzas.
+alfredo gallegos that's where you wrong. 1 gurkha can easily take 30 U.S marines easily. look for the articles and video where 1 gurkha single handedly fought with 30 talibans. this happened some 2 years ago.and look for another articles where 1 gurkha fought with dozens of robbers, with just bare hand and his kukuri knife. this happened in a train when the robbers tried to rob the passengers and rape a young girl.YOU DON"T FUCK WITH GURKHA. nobody messes with them. They are just different category of people caused they are born and raised in some of the hardest terrains in the world.
+NepaliBabuMadeInNepala Bro not every single royal Gurkha is from the mountains you sound dum its a known fact that the united states marines have the most well trained system in the world to make one marine a machine fighting monster and you know the black ops 3 trailer [ live action trailer, Seize Glory] ya that one marine is Kevin Yall dont know bout Kevin.

Solid chaps, them Ghurkas. And the lad was right - there's no relationship like this in the whole world. The people of Nepal have our respect and admiration for two hundred years of loyalty and excellence on the battlefield.
I'm British and proud both my parents serve the gurkas r brave fearless and great soldiers my dad loves training with our gurka regiment and the Americans
Marie&Herman I presume your mother was attached to the Gurkhas as a pay clerk, welfare officer, doctor or some other non infantry role?
I Respect both. I m Nepali n I live in U.S.A.
A reminder to our friends from across the pond, every year there is a boxing match between the UK SAS and US Marines the UK has won every match for the past 4-5 years.
Just because the Gurkhas are in less numbers doesn't mean that they aren't skilled enough to crush the marines as they crushed our soldiers in the past
wtf is boxing got to do with real military fighting, dont compare a little sport to real war
ExoticNomad It's a friendly competition where both sides choose their best person.
The better country wins proving their soldiers are stronger.
FxProGaming Lmao you're comparing T1 Special Forces to Marines LOL. Let's see a SAS operator fight a Delta, Ranger or a SEAL.

There is a story, I cannot says it's true that as soon as Argentinian soldiers heard Gurkhas had landed on the Falklands in the 80's that many of the Argentinean surrendered!
That's what happened in the Burmies war as well

Squelch133 that is the reason why nepalese are banned from entering Argentina 😭😭😭
Squelch133 good story though
Squelch, the story happens to be a true event. The Argentinians surrendered without a fight.
The word Gurkha illicits fear for some and pride for others.
Thank you for your service, from the UK
I've worked along side the Gurkha's on a couple of occasions on exercise during my army days many moons ago. I can honestly say, these troops are seriously a formidable fighting force, they don't stop. You never heard them bitch or moan, every man knows exactly what they have to do, don't shout at each other, they're incredible. I thought i was a pretty good soldier until I came across these guys.
All I’m saying. A section of gurkahs vs a platoon of marines. My bets on the Gurkhas
No bets there
Xx_k34t_xX -ig I agree and if the Gurkhas got close enough the USM had better believe the Gurkhas would kill them not with bullets but with Kukuri
I worked with the Gurkha engineers in Hong Kong thirty years ago. Excellent soldiers
Both phenomenal units. Extremely proud of our service men & women. God bless you all.
Hitler said he would conquer Europe if he had Gurkhas on his side. p.s he sent a Mercedes over to the king of Nepal as a present.
Proof??
KRISTAL SUNUWAR its all over the internet. Look for the first car of Nepal. And hitlers quote weather fake or real is also everywhere.
@@TheABS2820 i am not talking just about quote, i am talking about historical record of hitler saying it. If you are talking about quote, i have seen in internet multiple times. Anyone can make that quote amd intwrnet can literally spread it. But i have never been able to find any historical records that quotes hitler saying how he qould conquer the world with Gurkha
KRISTAL SUNUWAR if you know then why are you asking? Just to write a long ass comment to sound like a smart ass? If you read what I wrote then you would understand that there is no need to repeat the same shit
KRISTAL SUNUWAR don’t forget after nepal had talks with the British they went and bought French weapons to fight the British a century before the First World War. There was always high reputation and good track record. So I don’t know if it is true or not. If you want I can find some people who can talk to dead people. Maybe that is the best option.
I've had the privilege to personally trained with gurkhas before during my military service, and it's fair to say the seals or perhaps most special forces in this world receives much more advanced training methods as well as technology in weaponry than the gurkhas. That's not to say that technology, advanced training, as well as physical attributes does not have an advantage as well. But what sets the gurkhas apart from the rest during times of war is that these men do not fear death. One cannot simply win a man who doesn't fear death in any situation.
Love the Gurkhas and the Marine corps, good job we’re allies!
Much loved regiment of the royal Gurkhas. Thanks for ya service lads
Having served along side gurkhas and seeing how much it means to be a part of the best army on the planet, they never failed to impress me! 1000% in everything, just like us paras!

Now imagine this if the Gurkha could use their Kukri
The kukri has to draw blood if it is drawn.
No it doesn't. It's as much everyday tool as it is a weapon, more so even. Anything you would use a knife, machete or hatchet for, the Nepalese will do it with a kukri
lancer D
Actually Every Gurkha has at least two kukris; one for ceremonial purposes, and one for every day use. Maintenance of the kukri is a key part of daily routine, and it is kept sharp and clean at all times.
JayDee That's the same for knives and bayonets in any professional military though. You can't kill Germans with a rusty bayonet.
its not kukri its khukuri nd i m from nepal
Had Gurkhas as demonstration and "enemy" when I was at RMAS.
Excellent soldiers, tough as anyone but always smiling!
The Gurkha is a Warrior and it is the ambition of every young Gurkha to join the British Army and they are proud to do so and their families are very proud of them too, Long live the Gurkha.
Come on guys! There's no need for a regimental wanking competition. Both the Ghurkas and the US Marines are excellent soldiers, with a long and justifiably proud martial tradition.
U.S. Marines, are not soldiers !!
@@jessemiles1441 ?
@@thazmat Marines are Marines, not soldiers.
@redmotive Marines are in the Marine Corps, Soldiers are in the Army, Sailors are in the Navy, Airmen are in the Air Force, Coast Guardsmen are in the Coast Guard. Marines earned the title to be called Marines so they're Marines, technically every Marine is a Rifleman. And Infantryman in the Army are infantry soldiers, Infantryman in the Marines are Marine Infantryman. If you ask a soldier are Marines soldier, he or she would say no, they're Marines.
@@thazmat In the US a soldier is a member of the Army, the Marines take offense at being called a soldier because they are Marines. Hope that explained it.
These guys yomp up Everest for fun!
I once saw on TV a football match between the gurkhas and royal marine commandos . My god it was violently amazing.
I have a copy of "With Wingate In Burma" written by a British soldier who took part in the first Chindit offensive "Operation Longcloth", behind enemy lines in 1943. He was on sentry duty one night accompanied by a soldier of the Gurkha Rifles. They heard a rustling in the bushes close by and thinking it was a Jap trying to sneak up on them, the Gurkha jumped into the undergrowth and proceeded to wrestle with what turned out to be a tiger! The tiger, somewhat shocked at its rough handling, turned tail and fled! I don't have the book to hand and can't remember the exact wording, but the author wondered whether the Gurkha or the tiger had got the biggest fright and concluded that having served with the Gurkhas for a time, he consider the tiger had a lucky escape!
The gurkahs, the most feared regiment in the British army.
The 'fact' of the Gurkhas is that they are selected as 1 of many thousands. They then are trained by Britain's army - which is, of course, the best in the world.
The resultant is not a 'fighting machine' but a thoroughly decent bloke who is a super professional and, almost always, a nice chap.
I have fought with our Nepali pals in the Falklands and you'd not want anyone else by your side.
Alan Mac best in the world? Maybe in the 1800s but not today that goes to the US the British SAS have the longest training in the world but that's about it nothing really special
You're confusing "biggest" with "best" The average British squaddie is easily at the level of your Marines. I wouldn't use the rest of your motley crew of ragtag and bobtail no-marks to guard an empty warehouse.
Alan Mac marines are elite foot infantry and no Maybe the regular US army but even then the UK was always a support army never a head on army just look at history. Also there are only 180,000 US marines so they are not the biggest
+Mrbrain bob the British empire... pretty sure the British led then? And world war 2 America originally stayed out until it became a support army due to them being affected, brits joined out of morals, Americans joined because they'd been messed with (pearl harbour)
nunchuck90 no in ww2 the brits were a support army to the US
The Gurkhas hold a special place close to the hearts of the British public. Held in very high esteem in the forces community. Ferocious in battle and 100% loyal.
These Gurkha are the Elite class off fighting units, great to see them in action...respect from C.A
In his account of the fighting in Burma during WW2, George MacDonald Fraser recounts being in the immediate follow-up after a Gurkha assault on Japanese positions. All that was left to do was collect up all the rifles abandoned by the Gurkhas in favour of the kukri as they had gone in onto the objective; respect for their sheer guts and determination.
RIP Legend
