I'm passionate of Leonard Cohen...that's one of the best cover I've seen...especially because so close to the original tones and rhythm... Great performance ..
Makes more sense to hear this song sung by someone else. Some people close to Cohen said that he wrote this song to his younger self. Cohen had a blue raincoat, torn at the shoulder. Cohen flirted for a while with Scientology, begging the question from the singer, "Did you ever go clear?"
It's four in the morning, the end of December I'm writing you now just to see if you're better New York is cold, but I like where I'm living There's music on Clinton Street all through the evening I hear that you're building your little house deep in the desert You're living for nothing now, I hope you're keeping some kind of record Yes, and Jane came by with a lock of your hair She said that you gave it to her That night that you planned to go clear Did you ever go clear? Ah, the last time we saw you you looked so much older Your famous blue raincoat was torn at the shoulder You'd been to the station to meet every train, and You came home without Lili Marlene And you treated my woman to a flake of your life And when she came back she was nobody's wife Well I see you there with the rose in your teeth One more thin gypsy thief Well, I see Jane's awake She sends her regards And what can I tell you my brother, my killer What can I possibly say? I guess that I miss you, I guess I forgive you I'm glad you stood in my way If you ever come by here, for Jane or for me Well, your enemy is sleeping, and his woman is free Yes, and thanks, for the trouble you took from her eyes I thought it was there for good so I never tried And Jane came by with a lock of your hair She said that you gave it to her That night that you planned to go clear
If you haven't heard "Aurora" performance of Leonard Cohen famous blue raincoat check her out. One if not the best versions of this classic time piece. Much love ❤
I thought it was there for good... ....did ya ever go clear.....seriously Glen that was a bit special. I have much meaning to that song and you renewed it. Thanks.
Though I am Not a fan of Any covers of Cohen’s Epic poetry and delivery of his songs- Here I make an exception As a Jewish Israeli who Knows her history. I may Not agree with Hansard’s politics..(!!) But his cover here is Beyond Beautiful
It's just that Damien has a more soulful voice than Glen, who has a more powerful voice than Damien. Glen would make a better rendition on a James Brown cover. They are both tremendously talented their own way.
Listen it over and over through the years and sometimes I catch myself Glen sings this song even better then Cohen. I absolutely love Cohen but this particular song performance is amazing
I do tend to run to Cohen's music when life gets a bit tough............ It helps.
I swear I read "when wife gets a bit tough" and I burst into laughter.
Same. I also get revisit him around autumns too.
He brings great dignity to the ordinary human condition.
Sameeee:))))
@@g1g2g3g4g5gt It's probably a better reason....... just need a wife now....
I can see that Pauldavid.
Leonard's words in Glen Hansard's voice - Music in all its sincerity.
Pro trick : you can watch movies on flixzone. Been using it for watching a lot of movies lately.
@Zane Lachlan Yea, been watching on Flixzone} for years myself :D
No one does it better than Glen and Damien Rice
Glen does this masterpiece justice.
holy cow, my favorite bard singing my favorite Cohen... Whoa!
I'm passionate of Leonard Cohen...that's one of the best cover I've seen...especially because so close to the original tones and rhythm... Great performance ..
have you listened to Eivør version?
Cohen's famous blue raincoat is always spectecular, with every kind of voice.
Oh yes, Joan Baez, Tori Amos, Glen Hansard...
I love this song, Glen has made it his own.

Because he writes as if it's meant for Cohen.

L. Cohen / A Friend (Later in life, Cohen switched the lyrics to "A Friend")
I can feel this performance just like I feel cohen's one.

I wish I could play guitar like that...
You could by now if you started when you posted this comment

Ive yet to hear a version i like other than LC
what's the pure soul
Rice's is still infinitely better, full of far more emotion and soul.
i just feel like the song sounds better in American accent.
What do you mean? They're both irish.
rice is better but i think conor o'brien from villagers is the best in this one

Two men enter, one man leaves.
How good is Santa on the guitar!
Gorgeous! Does anyone know if this is on any of Glen’s albums? I’ve looked but no luck so far.
right to the south node
Listen it over and over through the years and sometimes I catch myself Glen sings this song even better then Cohen. I absolutely love Cohen but this particular song performance is amazing
Best cover of this song ever ,even better than what I can do it
I thought he was going to say “sincerely, G. Hansard" at the end of the song
the photo mosh pit?
marissa nadler version worth a listen too
My favorite is Tori Amos's. I prefer it when artists do a song in their own style.
this one is allmost better!
Love Glen Hansard, but, he jus5 doesn't do this song as well as Damien did. Love all his other stuff.
Spendid cover
Tori Amos does an incredible cover of this.
Great cover , but the best performance of this song still belongs Damien Rice.
My thought exactly. Rice owns this one, K.D. Lang owns Hallelujah.
Which is the worst?
great but blew the last line
is a good copy...
its called cover, mate
No match for Cohen's voice . But nice all the same
I don’t like l Cohen covers. Other bands ok but not Cohen. He is unique. 😐 sorry
i want to vommit
