I don’t leave comments on UA-cam. This is my 675th time watching this video, and I can no longer receive the beautiful gift of Glen Hansard’s voice in this song, without showing some type of “tanks” or appreciation. Whatever you’re going through, I promise the solution can be found somewhere in this song. Just keep listening again and again until you find it. Trust me…it’s there.
I know it’s been 2 years since you left your comment, but I wanted to thank you for it. You are so right: “Whatever you’re going through, I promise the solution can be found somewhere in this song. Just keep listening to it again and again.” There’s a newer post on UA-cam. A more recent rendition. Glen is all gray with a white beard and sitting at his piano. But man can he still belt out this song. I hope you can find it.
Is that because of who you've lost or who you want?....I just heard this watching 'Tin Star'...how have I missed this before!......I agree Louise 1000000000.......+1......
this guy deserves to be knighted for his musical spirit and just being a plain normal person, betchya the day after he got home from this concert he was back busking on the streets of dublin
When you have so much hurt and pain inside and grew up in a place like Ballymun and had the mad life with no father about and your mam struggling ,, then here is the result - ..... THE MAN IS A LEGEND :>
Unbelievable that is the most incredible live performance by a singer who gave every ounce of their heart and soul to deliver a truly unforgettable performance
Once a year I come back to this. No more, no less. No more to savour every bit of it like when listening to it for the first time again. No less because it’s that necessary cleanse the soul needs every now and then.
I watched him perform live this song and I have never cried in a concert before but feeling the emotion that he puts into this song made me a puddle of tears. At the end of the song he wiped his eyes too. He is amazing
Rarely do you see someone perform with such intensity and passion, pouring out their very soul on stage....awesome to see and people *have?* to wonder where wonderful Appalachian mountain music, bluegrass, and *real* country comes from......Irish influence all the way
I new Glenn from poppentry park to finglas park back in 1989 when he was starting to get a band together. He did, we did, his passion for tunes and making music was clear to see. Was very jealous when he supported Eddie vedder and jammed with some of my bands and musicians over the years. But I’m totally happy he did... keep it rocking my old friend...🙏✌️
This is the best ever performance I've seen of Glen Hansard singing bird of sorrow which is one of my favourite songs of Glen hansard and its just the best song ever
See glen all the time when he's home. Grew up in the same rough area as Glen did. An absolute pleasure to to know him. The local lad did well 👏 his brother Gary had a great voice too. Respect Glen Ballymun's own 💙💙💙💙💙💙
glen hansard is just like the best hug. many many years ago, i saw the swell season recent after my dad had passed. glen had the best story about his dad and trying to communicate with him and how hard it was, then they played say it to me now and it just gutted me and healed me all at the same time. since then i have tried to see glen in any capacity when he comes to my town. he is magical and medicine and i just love him to bits. this song is soo amazing and what a wonderful performance of it.
Being an "old" gal whose sweetheart, who was born in Dublin, and died suddenly during covid, I gave up on love. Yet I listen to this song again and again, because I know he wants me to hang on and not give up on love, even though it terrifies me. Thank you so much to those of you who keep hanging on, even if your deeply afraid. Bless Glen Hansard!
If you think this reduces you to tears just watch Episode 8 of Season 2 of Tin Star - there is a moment in that episode 9 when this is played (first time I heard it - utterly stunning) and it is a truly fine moment in Television. Thank you Glenn for reminding me of what life is about.
I agree, I was mesmerized by that show and that scene in Tin Star. I’m 60 yrs old and I cried like a little boy for that scene and this song. Thank you Glen for this incredible gift of a song
#legendary very moving song it brings me to tears I listen to his songs over and over every day and it still feels new to me I hope I can go to his concert one day
At the beginning the crowd are talking, during the song they are silenced as he gives his absolute all to sing this beautifully powerful song, after the song they roar with appreciation. This amazingly emotional performance makes me cry every time.
I read a few comments as the band started, I wondered, "what's all this, people crying?" Now, I see, I get it....I can’t think of a more soul powered performance by band and man. Thank you❤
maybe one of the best performs i had ever seen and heard. he is a hero. because of all the shit what happend to him, he gives your forgotten emotions or just be a living person.
Ich mag dierse Version vom Pinkpop Festival auch aber die Version vom "Bird Of Sorrow" beim "Haldern Pop Festival" vom WDR Rockpalst hat klar ein MEGA ++
I don't get goosebumps from music, it takes a lot for me to be moved by something artsy. But Glen broke me. I love this performance and I am beyond grateful that I was able to see him play live and pour his soul out. I literally spent 3 hours with goosebumps in the middle of July in Italy
The best part of this scene is missing. After the song ends, the sound engineer asks Glen if he wrote that song. Glen replies "Yeah!" That one word says volumes.
Sorry, but the best is the song and his performance and i hope to know what you are meaning, but it is the song and the performing what is the best, and nothing after this.
He absolutely empties himself there, for the song, for his craft, for the performance!! He gives everything!! Wonderful stuff Glen.
Just amazing
Il donne de l'amour !!

I could listen to this 1000000000 times and it still breaks my heart every time.

Yes this is Glens masterpiece
this guy deserves to be knighted for his musical spirit and just being a plain normal person, betchya the day after he got home from this concert he was back busking on the streets of dublin
He's Irish from Ireland not Northern Ireland so he's not British.

One of the best artists I've ever seen "live"
Proof of his mettle: at the song's beginning, half the audience is still talking, but by the end every one of them is locked onto him

Great that made ya feel that way this songs about his mother who just passed away. But yes medicine for me too. Take care
My most favorite song, and he did an absolutely phenomenal job, and yes he did give it is all that’s what he does❤
The truth and passion of this music is in his eyes, in his whole body, in his soul.
When someone touches your soul it’s worth the wait! ❤️
The truth of these words overwhelms me. I cry but keep listening over and over !
Simply from another planet, a planet we all belong too (if we let us feel)
Man, he is totally crazy. I love this song.
another oscar for this song!!!
Amazing Artist. I follow this man for a long time. Beautiful music.
Epic, never a half hearted performance from him
Epic is an understatement
Stunning Emotive performance!
I can't either stop listening to this song, nor stop crying... somedays I wish like to have lovesickness ;-)
I got to see Glen here in brisbane this year, i just can't work out why more people haven't heard of him. Just magnificent

LOVE Glen Hansard. He is absolutely inspiring.
Rolando Renteria , he is outstanding, vastly underrated performer outside of Ireland
You need to put heart in your music...and your words...if not there's no life in you.
Thank you Glen.

Between Glen and Tom McRae these are 2 of the best song writers and so underrated !!! love em both!!
Chris Crotty gonna look up Tom McRae!
Oh how I'd love to see him live again! I'll always have that wonderful memory 😌
Phenomenal.

Grazie Glen!
I just realized he quotes Rave On, John Donne in this performance. Nice connect
That was emotional
Well done Glen. That’s some powerful song
I saw him with band in Carré in Amsterdam. It was a great concert.
Just week shy of 2023 with a New Years wish for a sequel to “Once”. It’s long overdue. Great movie, incredible music.
Incredible song by a true artist
Beautiful
So powerful
People were to busy looking for stones when all a round us are diamonds.just let your eye's see..

OMB, oh my Buddha.
Rave on, John Donne! Rave on, Glen Hansard!
yes, always, please, Rave on Glen Hansard
Van reference? Apt. Hozier may join that company.
Ah, just heard to Van part.
i'm not a native english speaker, can someone write that part down for me please?
6:20
damn, volume is too low
One of the greastest song of Glen ed one of gratest live performance ; what have in their brain the seven thumbs down?!... :(
Where and when was this performance? And more important: if it was in Holland... Why wasn't I present?!?!?!
can someone tell me what is he saying towards the end of the song?
He’s been playing that guitar to death, look at the hole he’s worn under the sound board.
is it Marketa Irglova playing the piano?
გენიოსი
defbri13: you stole my words ! Shayla: that person was drunk and pushed the wrong button ...and feels ashamed now.....
what did he say at 0:50?
this is for the people who are caught in the nettles
Poor trombone player. He had his work cut out for him trying to keep up with Glen's own speed.
Too slow
