- We head out on the 37 Freeman Boatworks "Broad Minded" in search of Cobia in the Gulf of Mexico. We lose our first cobia but over the next few hours we wound up catching a handful of keepers! Back at the dock we clean up the cobia and take it home for dinner. We wind up sauteeing it in the pan and it turns out delicious.

Of all the times you've jacked up your hands from leadering fish without gloves, you still don't wear gloves and say "Don't forget to wear gloves." LOL! I get it though, when the bite is on, you don't even remember to breath sometimes. Love the recent videos of you fishing with friends and family for different species. It's helping me get through the boredom of this quarantine.

Cobia good eating and hard fighting fish. My first one came out of nj on live eel at a truning buoy capemay inlet. Great fish 32 pounds. That was nice to see in nj. And it tastes even better. Water was in the 80s that day in July.

Suggestion for cooking cobia:
Season with lemon juice, lemon zest, and lemon pepper seasoning, then coat with olive oil. (Salt to taste, but you may not need it if the lemon pepper seasoning has salt in it.) Then grill or broil it. This sounds like too much lemon, but the grilling caramelizes it and gives it a rich taste that really complements the natural flavor of cobia.

Mangrove snapper is probably my favorite fish to eat after snowy grouper.

In the Chesapeake Bay, we mostly sight fish for Cobia. Some people chum, but the odds of catching sharks verses Cobia are not good. Every keeper Cobia I've caught is by sight fishing. Last summer my daughter caught her first keeper Cobia. If you want charter in this area check out Grading Scales

Both gulf and Atlantic. Not many migrating on Atlantic side last couple years though. I’ve only caught 1 other keeper cobia the last 4 years , I don’t really target them
