16 years and listening rock n metal since my 13's and I won't let rock n roll ever die. As long as somebody listens to those genres rock n roll will keep being alive. Rock on and stay safe🤘🏼
@@aprilisjamming Abril i am 49 and started in 1980 at 8 age with Deep Purple and AC/DC and then in few years i was listening Metal too... 41 years later i am still listening rock and metal... Metal never dies \m/
Number of the Beast by Iron Maiden isn't a pro satan song. The singer had night terrors. He had insomnia because of it and this song was his way of facing his demons.
You decided to react to the exact right tune girl. The Very first song on the very first album of the very first bonnafide Metal Masters. What an awesome stroke of luck. I love it!!!!!!
I also started with Battery. Honestly its a best thing to start with, it's fast and aggressive to the point where it's interesting but not too much to the point where it's intimating
They've changed my life man, and if you think I'm an old guy, I'm not. I'm 22. The bassist Geezer Butler is the reason I play the bass, and I'm a happy man because of that.
Jason25 Vorhees yea the three mentioned all formed in the late 60s and Van Halen didn’t come till the mid-late 70s, I still think they’re heavy but they aren’t considered to be the pioneers of heavy rock. Still a great band tho.
"Who was the creative genius behind black sabbath?" More drugs than I can list in a single comment. Also Tommi Iommi and Geezer Butler I guess, but mostly drugs.
It was rather customary at the time. The band rehearsed all the songs in a garage, then rented a studio, and recorded all the tracks straight away. Then the sound engineer would mix it, and voila, a new album is released. That's why many of those old bands were very good live. There was no digital post-processing, none of that stuff. Studios were expensive, and the musicians at the start of their career were usually very poor. Only talent and hard work could save them.
Here's another one for you: Tony Iommi's guitar style was born of necessity. Just before they got together, he had an accident at work, and sliced the tips off of his fingers, so he had to develop a new way of playing.
"I thought all Metal was like that" This is whats keeping so many people from giving Metal a chance, sure there are bound to be bands/genres you just will not like, but Metal is so incredibly diverse, there's bound to be something you will like, and it all starts from that one song or band :)
And not only there are so many bands, but there are hundreds of sub genres and sub genres of sub genres! I for one do not care for alternative/industrial/rap metal stuff, but am a sucker for death-, thrash-, doom-, heavy etc metal bands. It's endless, one could use their entire life going through sub genres of sub genres of metal and still miss out on something. That's why I love it.
People think Heavy Metal is just screaming, noise, bleeding ears, etc... It's actually one of the most fascinating, varied, technical, catchy and quality music genres of all time. Also has incredible longevity. Blues, Rock N Roll, Disco, 80's Pop... All of these genres are dead by now, while Metal is still alive 50 years later.
well, most music experts put Metal as the descendant of classical music, as it has the same basic traits... and classical music is still here after 5 centuries, so, metal will never die
@@avvvqvvv99 nope, sorry, metal has nothing to do with the previous 2... try listening to B.B. King, or Aretha Franklin, that did mostly blues, then to Elvis or The Beach Boys, that did mostly rock. Then listen to Black Sabbath or Led Zeppelin, that are the first metal groups, and made music roughly in the same decades of the others. Even if you're not musically trained you should hear similarities between blues and rock, but metal is another species
I know many people who say that. Ozzy's voice is very blusey, maybe that's why it's likable. Bruce's voice is like the best voice in the world or not. I prefer both, but am biased towards Ozzy as Black Sabbath changed my life a little.
Metallica live concerts are an experience on another level, you need to react to their recent shows and also Seattle 89 where they play everything at 400% speed and its absolutely face melting
Also... strange that you have to point it out 30 years later, but: number of the beast has about as much to do with "devil worshipping" as a Brittany Spears song. e: Actually, after thinking about it, probably less so.
Black Sabbath's Paranoid is great beginning to end. Check out War Pigs. It's one of the greatest anti-war songs of all time. The name Black Sabbath came from an old horror movie. The song Paranoid was probably their only hit single. Check out Deep Purple's Machine Head album too. They were part of the "Unholy Trinity" along with Sabbath and Led Zeppelin in the early 70's. Head bang away. 🤟😷
I'm so excited to properly listen to those entire Black Sabbath albums. been meaning to find a time to just sit down and give them my full attention because it really does that 'new favourite band' potential as i mentioned in the video. Oh my god, Deep Purple needs to happen!!
@@kirawasadiver Ian Gillan, the vocalist on the best version of Deep Purple, was Jesus Christ in Andrew Lloyd Weber's Jesus Christ Superstar. Deep Purple's Machine Head, In Rock, Fireball, Made in Japan, Burn, and Stormbringer are essential.
I’ve been listening to Heavy Metal for over 40 years and Black Sabbath is my favorite band also. I’m glad you discovered heavy metal. Your in for some journey. I’m jealous.
Welcome to the Metal Family! I just turned 60, so I grew up listening to the bands and songs that you listened to in this video. Some info: Tony Iommi (guitarist for Black Sabbath) is known as the Metal Riff Master. Another Sabbath album to listen to is "Master of Reality". The song, "Children of the Grave", is one of my all-time favorites. "The Number of the Beast" was Iron Maiden's first album with Bruce Dickinson on vocals. Steve Harris (bassist for Iron Maiden) is their main song writer and known for his galloping bass lines. Another Maiden album to listen to is "Piece of Mind". "Flight of Icarus" is a favorite. "Master of Puppets" is widely regarded as Metallica's best album. Bassist, Cliff Burton, was a major influence on the early Metallica sound. He died in a bus crash and something has been missing from Metallica's sound ever since. Judas Priest is one of my favorites. Check out the album "Screaming for Vengeance". "You Got Another Thing Comin'" is a great song. Have a wonderful time exploring metal history!
I love how your first metal song was the FIRST metal song to EXIST, the guitarist of Black sabbath lost his fingertips so he had to tune his guitar lower, causing the first metal song black sabbath
That's not actually true, both Black Sabbath and Paranoid are in standard tuning. He changed the tuning from Master of Reality onwards because he thought it sounded creepier. But he really lost his fingertips, so he started to use guitars with lighter gauge strings.
@@pauloviniciosappelt9789 damn. For a guitar player that has to be bad. Actually it would be bad for any instrument. I play drums and i can only imagine having to quit blast beats if i lost my fingertips.
@@nasku2506 but the nice with music is that you always can adapt, if you want. An example is another drummer, Rick Allen from Def Leppard. He lost one of his arms, and adapted his drums to do what he did with it using his legs
I love watching this and feeling validated as a metal head by hearing compliments from a budding metal head. I love metallica the most but dig the other bands too. Keep exploring!
OMG Kira! Your energy is so infectious! Seeing a person who is not a Hip-Hop head getting into heavy metal for the first time ever in their life is actually awesome, because those kind of people are everywhere on UA-cam. Your energy made my day and as a veteran metalhead (what us metal fans call ourselves) of 18 years (yes, I have been listening to heavy metal and rock music for 18 years and I'm 33 now!) has put a big smile on my face! So big, that you have made me blast out loud one of my favorite IRON MAIDEN album's now! The album, "Somewhere In Time" from 1986. A MASTERPIECE of an album and one of their top notch BEST!!!!! I gotta say, that the four metal bands you listened to are among the best of the best in the genre of heavy metal. Black Sabbath is the pioneer of heavy metal and they are largely considered to be the inventor of the genre. Their music influenced all bands that came after them. They produced a lot of great music in their long career and gave us some very legendary musicians. Ozzy Osbourne, Toni Immoi, Ronnie James Dio (who was the singer after Ozzy left, check out his stuff too! You won't be disappointed!). Ozzy's solo career came right after he was fired from Black Sabbath in 1979. Ozzy's first solo album, Blizzard Of Ozz came out in 1980. You should give his solo albums a listen to. Start with every album from 1980 to 1991. Ozzy would later return to Black Sabbath many years later. Judas Priest are also a major pioneer of the genre. They are the first to be a commercially successful metal band by stripping away all the blues sound from their music and just going pure metal sound. They featured the soaring operatic vocals of Rob Halford and the twin guitar attack of Glenn Tipton and K.K. Downing. Their best album in my opinion is PainKiller from 1990. Every song on that album is a 5 out of 5! Also the albums, British Steel (1980), Screaming For Vengeance (1982), Defenders Of The Faith (1984), Turbo (1986), Ram It Down (1988), Firepower (2018), there are some other really great ones too, but I'll let you find those on your own! :D Iron Maiden are one of the bands that REALLY got big in the genre of heavy metal, due to their sound (triple guitars - Adrian Smith, Dave Murray, Janick Gers), excellent vocals of Bruce Dickenson, great Bass lines from Steve Harris and awesome drums of Nicko McBrain. They have numerous top hits from their first seven albums alone, it is all these hits that made them a house hold name in metal. They are also an arena band. Their songs are legendary! They are so upbeat, melodic, fast and fun to listen to! They are the first band that was apart of the movement called "New Wave Of British Heavy Metal" a movement which showed up in metal in the 1980's. The new generation of influential young metal bands from the U.K. back in the early to mid 1980's. Which really started something back then and it's effects are still being felt today by new listeners! Iron Maiden hold a special place in my heart! :) Suggested Iron Maiden albums, Iron Maiden (1980) (their first album), Killers (1981), The Number Of The Beast (1982 - First album with new singer Bruce Dickenson, previous singer Paul Di'anno was good too), Piece Of Mind (1983), Powerslave (1984), Somewhere In Time (1986), Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son (1988), and Brave New World (2000). Then we have Metallica, a band which is a thrash metal band. They are also legendary in their own right. The band's fast tempos, instrumentals and aggressive musicianship made them one of the founding "big four" bands of thrash metal, alongside Megadeth, Anthrax and Slayer. Metallica's current lineup comprises founding members and primary songwriters Hetfield and Ulrich, longtime lead guitarist Kirk Hammett, and bassist Robert Trujillo. Guitarist Dave Mustaine (who went on to form Megadeth after being fired from the band) and bassists Ron McGovney, Cliff Burton (who died in a bus accident in Sweden in 1986) and Jason Newsted are former members of the band. Metallica earned a growing fan base in the underground music community and won critical acclaim with its first five albums. The band's third album, Master of Puppets (1986), was described as one of the heaviest and most influential thrash metal albums. Its eponymous fifth album, Metallica (1991), the band's first to root predominantly in heavy metal, appealed to a more mainstream audience, achieving substantial commercial success and selling over 16 million copies in the United States to date, making it the best-selling album of the SoundScan era. After experimenting with different genres and directions in subsequent releases, the band returned to its thrash metal roots with the release of its ninth album, Death Magnetic (2008), which drew similar praise to that of the band's earlier albums. Metallica are one of my top favorite bands as well. In fact all four of these bands I am a HUGE fan of!!!!!!!! Suggested Metallica albums, Kill Em' All (1983), Ride The Lightning (1984), Master Of Puppets (1986), ...And Justice For All (1988), Metallica - a.k.a. The Black Album (1990). If you want to listen to Load (1996), Re-Load (1997) then ok, those two Metallica albums have a blues sound in them a lot, I like that a bit. Their sound changed from The Black Album to St. Anger (2003). St. Anger is widely considered to be the worst Metallica album, mainly because of the snare drum sound that Lars Ulrich used in the whole album. After that their two most recent albums Death Magnetic (2008) and Hardwired... to Self Destruct (2016) returned to a heavy thrash metal sound, the same sound they used in their first four albums, but much harder than the first four. Heavy Metal in of itself is a great music genre and the sub-genres under it are equally impressive. There's industrial metal, power metal, black metal, progressive metal, melodic death metal, gothic metal, folk / Viking metal, doom metal, epic metal, fantasy metal, glam or hair metal, groove metal, neo-classical metal, and others. I have heard every genre listed and all are great. My personal favorite is power metal. I am a fan of lots and lots and lots of GREAT bands! I know a lot about heavy metal, it's history, the people involved (singers, guitarists, bassists, drummers, keyboard players), and many bands from many different sub-genres of metal I am aware of and have heard music from said band. I suggest you turn your channel into a fully fledged metal reaction channel going through many songs from as many bands as possible under many different metal sub-genres. Fully explore Black Sabbath (and the different singers they have had), Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, and Metallica. But, don't stop at those four bands! Explore great bands like AC/DC, Alice In Chains, Annihilator, Anthrax, Boston, Def Leppard, Dio, Foreigner, Green Day, Guns N' Roses, Journey, Led Zeppelin, Megadeth, Motley Crue, Motorhead, Queen, Queensryche, Rainbow, Ramones, Rush, Saxon, Slayer, Testament, Van Halen, Yngwie Malmsteen and ZZ Top. These are a mix of rock bands, progressive bands, punk bands, hard rock bands and heavy metal bands. Give them all a listen! If you need more than I know of a lot MORE, way, way, WAYYYYYYYY more!!!!!! So much that you will become a full fledged metalhead, if you are not one already! LOL....Why don't we be friends and metalhead buddies? I need some new people to share heavy metal music with, I have already introduced heavy metal to my co-worker friend and he likes it a lot. :) I got 1,000's of songs to share! :D Well this seasoned veteran metalhead has talked enough! Cheers! May the Metal be with you! \m/ :)
Listen to: Iron Maiden - Hallowed Be Thy Name Ozzy - Thunder Underground Judas Priest - The Hellion/Electric Eye Metallica - Whiplash Ozzy - Shot in the Dark Dio - Don't Talk To Strangers Black Sabbath - Heaven and Hell (Dio is on vocals) Megadeth - Symphony of Destruction Peace /,,/ !
@Non sum dignus Whiplash caught me initially as having a unique sound, it really stood out as something different from anything I've heard before. It's a great song.
Talking about the 2nd Iron Maiden's album "The Number of the Beast", you should listen to the last track "Hallowed be thy name", again another epic track.
I was smiling and laughing all the way through this video. I've never actually gotten to watch someone discover Black Sabbath before. Usually in reaction videos it's like one song and they're like "This is good, let me know if they have more good songs" but you were all in immediately. It was awesome. I was almost as giddy for you. Awesome. Welcome :D
I like how you try to understand what you're listening to and the context that produced it, but what I appreciate the most is the fact that you also indexed the video... that's first class :)
I'm 60 years old, and I heard Black Sabbath 1st record when I was 9. In 1970 when a neighbor returned from Vietnam and lent it to me. I've loved Heavy Metal since ( and pink floyd) I enjoy watching reaction videos with people new to Heavy metal, and falling in love with it, I've had a magical journey with music outside the mainstream for 50 years Enjoy your journey
Definitely. N.I.B is one of my favorite Sabbath songs to this day. That bass solo leading up to what I consider like a metal version of Eric Clapton's Cocaine was one of my greatest times listening to metal. And with missing the tips of some of his fingers and still being able to do this.
Ozzy is on a different level all by himself, he’s just AMAZING The energy he shows on stage, and the fact that he’s still creating albums at 71 years old
I was laughing when you listen to Judas Priest (you listen to their lightest songs) - try to listen their "The Sentinel" and of course "Painkiller" to understand what real heavy metal is)
I 100% second "The Sentinel", but I personally don't really like "Painkiller" that much, I've heard it so many times that I'm kinda tired of it, really. And also has a lot of screaming so if you don't like that kind of thing, I'd hold off with that tbh. I will, however, recommend "One Shot at Glory" (and "Battle Hymn", it's the intro) from the same album. Whole album rocks honestly. It's an interesting album in that it's sort of a turning point for Priest. "Ram it Down" was sort more rock-ish album, and had drum machines and stuff, so some people don't really like it, I do. Then came "Turbo," which sounded almost like disco music, it had synths, drum machines and generally a very disco sound. And then, completely out of nowhere comes "Painkiller," a full on heavy metal record with fast and tight guitar riffs, massive and hard hitting drums and great guitar solos. It was almost like they picked up where they left off with "Defenders of the Faith," and just made it more metal. And it's awesome. Oh, and if you like Black Sabbath, my favorite albums are "Master of Reality" and "Heaven and Hell" (no Ozzy on "Heaven and Hell," but you couldn't ask for a better replacement for Ozzy than the man himself, Ronnie James Dio. He's probably the best meavy metal vocalist of all time, IMO). So those are my two cents. EDIT: It didn't sit right with me, I had to say it. Rob Halford of Judas Priest is absolutely as good as Dio, in a different way. Dio's vocals are very clean and polished, while Rob's are very raw. I like to describe them as perfectly imperfect. He can sing great, but sometimes the imperfections are what gives a song it's spirit. My favorite Priest albums are, in order from best: "Sad Wings of Destiny," "Painkiller," "Screaming for Vengeance," "Defenders of the Faith," "Firepower" and "Ram it Down." So if you ever run out of stuff to listen to, here's some suggestions from a guy on the internet you've never met and don't know. I know you might not listen to most of these, I know I don't whenever someone recommends stuff to me, I once asked a friend to recommend me some black metal albums and of the ones he did I heard one from start to finish and two I've heard like 2 songs each, if I'm being generous lmao. But maybe not everyone's like that, what do I know.
@@mach2223 Painkiller is more speed metal than heavy metal, really, but no one screams like Rob Halford. If you're going to listen to screaming headbanger music, it doesn't get much better than Painkiller. I'd be curious to see what Kira makes of Alice in Chains. If horror is her thing, she may also like Marilyn Manson or Nine Inch Nails.
Welcome to our world. There is a limitless number of groups in hard rock/heavy metal. Start with the earlier band like we all did and then you can work up. You are now a part of the family. Bill
"I heard a thing once and didn't like and thought all of it was like that" I thought about rock and metal and jazz and blues this way, but grew out of it. I learned that I can't just say I'm not into a whole genre, just because I didn't like a part of it. I agree that once you try it and don't like it, exploring it further immediately slides down in your priority list, but I'm glad I moved past that. Not all metal is growling death, same as not all country is about cowboys or all rap is about drugs and bitches. It's art and people make art about what they're passionate about. The variety in each of these genres is endless. Also: DO WAR PIGS!
This genre of music goes back 50+ years. To cover it all is difficult. The first wave would be Black Sabbath, Deep Purple etc. followed in 1978/1979 by the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) which includes bands such as Iron Maiden (1st two albums are different to subsequent albums i.e. more punky and in my opinion better), Diamond Head, Motorhead (although they started in 1976ish), Girlschool (All female band) etc. You get the americans joining in during the 80s with Hair metal (Van Halen etc.) but they were wiped out overnight when Grunge came in (result). Modern Metal 1990s onwards has many offshoots Black & Death Metal; Folk Metal (Skyclad); Prog or progressive metal (Opeth); Math Metal (Meshuggah). The list goes on ad infinitum. Albums to listen to: Ace of Spades (Motorhead); Blackwater Park (Opeth); The Answer Machine (Skyclad); Destroy Erase Improve (Meshuggah). Some bands to listen to who are not really metal bands but are good Heavy Rock/Prog Rock: Rush (Permanent Waves, 2112, Moving Pictures good albums) and Marillion (the version with the singer Fish) (Script for a Jesters Tear, Fugazi and B'Sides themselves). Sorry for the long post but it is a big genre you're getting yourself into and good luck.
Your video in a word: precious! I loved watching your reaction. I've been listening to these songs for 35 years. Still love them today but watching you enjoy them gave me goosebumps remembering when I first heard them. Thank you for sharing. This was adorable.
This was really lovely to watch! You had some very good insights! There is so much good music around regardless of any "genres", I wish we can all keep on exploring and expanding our frontiers.
There’s something special about the first six Black Sabbath albums. They’ve been my favorite band for about 3 years and I listen to them every day. I’m glad you found them and hope you enjoy your journey though their discography!
Hi, Im going to try and explain the absolute mess that is the subgenres of metal, which nobody can totally agree on, but heres my take: Old school heavy metal: Started in early 70s with sabbath, heavy zeppelin influence, just a bit darker New wave of brittish heavy metal: Started in the mid-70s, old school but faster with a bit of brittish punk involved (iron maiden is textbook NWOBHM). Considered part of old school. Doom metal: slow atmospheric stuff inspired by sabbath. Most of the songs on 13 by sabbath can be considered doom metal. Start date is arguable. Speed metal: stepping stone between old school, and thrash and death. Very similar to nwobhm, but with much faster drums (listen to motorhead). Started in very late 70s. Black metal: Started in the early 80s. Very atmospheric and super over the top extra satanic with a side of church burnings and murders on top. Generally very evil and depressing sounding, with terrible production quality (which is on purpose). I cant give you a good example of who to listen to because you shouldnt. Plus if you didnt like deafheaven youre gonna hate regular black metal. Glam metal: 80s pop metal aka hair metal. Very basic and poppy take on old school. Motley crue is a good example. Thrash metal: underground response to glam metal. Very angry, very fast, and very unforgiving. Metallica is the most famous, but megadeth and slayer are probably better examples. Inspired by speed metal. Started in the early 80s. Death metal: started in the mid 80s in the underground after thrash started to get big. Takes some tropes from thrash and gets even faster and more technical, and makes the vocals much more aggressive and heavy almost until they cease to sound human. (See cannibal corpse for an extreme example, or Death for a more typical one) Power metal: started in the mid 80s and takes inspiration from old school heavy metal. Has soaring clean vocals, super technical guitar solos, high speed drums, and sword and sorcery style folk lyrics. The songs often sound like they belong in super epic action fantasy movies. Try Blind Guardian for a sample of power metal. Groove metal: similar to thrash but slowed down a bit to make it easier to move to. Started in the early 90s with Pantera, as well as Metallica and Megadeth changing their sounds. All 3 are good examples. Industrial metal: similar to groove, but uses electronic elements to make it seem more machine like. Mostly started in the mid 90s, though Nine Inch Nails can sometimes be considered industrial metal (as opposed to industrial rock) and theyve been around since the mid 80s. For good examples, look at fear factory and rob zombie (or the doom soundtracks). Nu metal: Basically groove metal, but simplified down into a more comercialized version. Started in the late 90s with bands like korn, linkin park, and limp bizkit. Often incorporates elements of hiphop or rap into its music, and is usually very simple, often just about being angry or wanting to break stuff. Slipknot are also a good example. Metalcore: Started in the late 90s as an underground combination of metal and hardcore punk, but in the mid 2000s transitioned into a combination of metal and emo music. Contains a combination of clean singing (almost extremely poppy sometimes) and screams. Converge is a good example of the earlier type, and Killswitch Engage for the latter. Progressive metal: can be used to describe any music that gets experimental and doesnt totally cohere with its genre's tropes. Deafheaven is whats called blackgaze, which is a progressive form of black metal. Prog stuff tends to be very long in length and have a lot of weird time signiature changes, and it likes to take you on a journey. I recommend listening to Dream Theatre (all around prog), Mastodon (progressive sludge metal, sludge is a slightly sped up more punky version of doom), Gojira (progressive death metal, they have super melodic screams, listen to stranded), and Tool (progressive Groove metal, also sometimes considered hipster music, listen to Vicarious) I think thats all the big ones, I left out all the tiny variations (which is why there wasnt a sludge metal section), and yeah this is a big complicated mess. Let me know if you have any questions. And everyone else who thinks they know more than me, feel free to correct anything I got wrong thats an indisputable fact (like a date), otherwise keep in mind everything else is just my opinion. Thanks.
Your trashing on all of black metal is upsetting. Darkthrone is genuinely one of the best metal bands of all time and their music is filled with absolute banger riffs
And its not 'bad' production if it's done on purpose, which it is, its just low production. Calling black metal production bad is like calling a lowfi hip hop beat production bad.
@@RayAtchley i was simplifying it for her since she didnt like a blackgaze band, which is arguably much easier to get into from a non-metal perspective than actual black metal. Also Im sorry about calling it bad production, maybe a poor choice of words.
I was 7 years old when "Paranoid" first came out. I got the album when I was 8 years old, and now it is part of my DNA. Forever. It's why I wanted to learn how to play guitar.
React them live. Master of puppets live in Seattle 1989. Best concert ever recorded. Btw Metallica has an album that appeals to everyone. That's why they are so loved and also hated so much but they are still the biggest band in the world and they selling out every night
@Mafwi yeah, I really like stuff like King Diamond and Death, but I can't share that with my friends without them probably never listening to stuff like in this video and then eventually getting to the harder stuff.
@Mafwi : A list may be OK for an introduction, but definitely not this one. A lot of the bands in this list aren't even metal. Rainbow? Twisted Sister? Van Halen? Scorpions? Def Leppard?! Pyromania was a pop album. I think the list's qualification was anything with an electric guitar is considered metal. Danzig #23 ... Danzig?! (facepalm) British Steel #3?! That's nowhere near Priest's best or most influential album, much less all of metal's third best. Heck, I wouldn't even consider British Steel to be one of Priest's Top 5 albums. If you're going by influential, Sad Wings Of Destiny has to be Priest's #1. But that's not even on the list. Megadeth's Peace Sells at #8 over Rust In Peace? (smh) And then there are all the unknown and niche albums that a hard-core long-time metal-head like me might know, but they certainly aren't good enough or influential enough to be on this list, especially over albums like Mercyful Fate's Don't Break The Oath, Lamb Of God's Ashes Of The Wake, Exhorder's Slaughter In The Vatican and Trouble's Psalm 9, none of which are on the list, and all of which are far more influential. There has to be far better lists than this one.
@@noneofyourbusiness3288 : It's better than Rolling Stone, but even they have Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Rush all over the top 50. Those aren't metal bands. Even a metal site can't get these lists right. I get that people will feel different about which albums belong on the list and how they're ranked, but at least make the list stick to 'metal' albums. And for someone coming from pop to metal, I'd make a whole different list of accessible melodic songs instead of albums, such as Judas Priest's You've Got Another Thing Coming, Sabbath's Iron Man or Children of the Grave, Dio's Holy Diver or Metallica's Enter Sandman. One list I saw had Slayer's Reign In Blood as #1. Can you imagine a beginner loading up the song Raining Blood? That would be a one-and-done for their metal listening.
I've been into Metal for over 40 years, played drums in metal bands in Melbourne and this is the best reaction to Metal I've ever seen! Fricken awesome!
a great tip: watch Metal: A Headbanger's Journey. There is alot of genre talks (so you can see what you wanna avoid ) and what makes people like metal.
I was second row for Sabbath once. Had just got two beers that cost 11 bucks each. Ozzy is running back and forth on stage with this crazed look on his face. Grabs a bucket of water from stage left and proceeds to dump it on my head and into my two beers. I was not mad lol.
Girl this was great! I love seeing your introduction to metal! I love all the albums you checked out here! Iron Maiden is my personal favorite metal band! Their album "Piece of Mind" is flawless in my opinion! That is one you may want to check out at some point! You can't go wrong with any of these bands though! Oh yeah...check out all of Sabbath's discography...you won't be disappointed!
hey, thanks! i'm glad you enjoyed it :) i've definitely enjoyed getting into metal myself. i'll add Piece of Mind to my list of metal albums/songs to get to!! the list is getting long hahah. oh yes, sorry, let me correct myself. list of metal albums/songs/discographies to get to, as sabbath's discog is definitely on it!!
"I don't like his voice as much as I liked Ozzy Osbourne's..." That's a good girl. I do love Maiden too, but they can't compare to Black Sabbath, when I discovered them after having listened to Kiss, Mötley Crüe, W.A.S.P. and Twisted Sister as a kid I started to *really* listen to music seriously. Oh, and very relatable later on as well, my first Metallica song was "Battery" too, a friend's big sister's boyfriend dubbed me Master of Puppets (it was just released then) and most of Kill 'em All on same cassette! He played me stuff like Metal Church and Venom too but it was a bit too early for those I guess, but Metallica went over really well.

Fun fact: The first Black Sabbath album was completely recorded in one 8 hour session.
people keep dropping amazing sabbath facts, how good can a band be?!?
Another fun fact the album was released on Friday 13th Feb 1970.

Iron Maiden are one of the bands that REALLY got big in the genre of heavy metal, due to their sound (triple guitars - Adrian Smith, Dave Murray, Janick Gers), excellent vocals of Bruce Dickenson, great Bass lines from Steve Harris and awesome drums of Nicko McBrain.
Suggested Iron Maiden albums, Iron Maiden (1980) (their first album), Killers (1981), The Number Of The Beast (1982 - First album with new singer Bruce Dickenson, previous singer Paul Di'anno was good too), Piece Of Mind (1983), Powerslave (1984), Somewhere In Time (1986), Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son (1988), and Brave New World (2000).
Starting metal with Death is like starting drugs with Crack. But in this case, Death is good and crack isn't LOL

Ozzy is on a different level all by himself, he’s just AMAZING
The energy he shows on stage, and the fact that he’s still creating albums at 71 years old
i've gotten really into Ozzy as a character/persona since the filming of this video lol
@@kirawasadiver There is this documentary called The Nine Lives of Ozzy Osbourne. I highly recommend it.
Bruce has more stage energy than anyone, he's always running around and always has the audience in the palm of his hand
Welcome to the world of Metal! You need to listen to the album, Somewhere In Time by Iron Maiden and Stained Class by Judas Priest. Take care🤟🏻
Eyyyyy adding them to the list Chris! Thanks always for bestowing your wisdom upon me

Stained Class! 👌🏽👌🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
I was laughing when you listen to Judas Priest (you listen to their lightest songs) - try to listen their "The Sentinel" and of course "Painkiller" to understand what real heavy metal is)
Sergey Shvets yea I was super confused by the end of it. It just didn’t seem like metal at all hahaha, thanks for that. Will check it out
I 100% second "The Sentinel", but I personally don't really like "Painkiller" that much, I've heard it so many times that I'm kinda tired of it, really.
Painkiller...my God Painkiller \m/ one of my top 5 metal albums of all time. Priest forever \m/
Painkiller is what the dictionary refers to when you look up Heavy Metal.
give "Orion" by Metallica a listen. you like the instrumental parts...the whole song is an instrumental....and it is AWESOME! You will LOVE it!
That and Welcome Home (Sanitarium) or any of Metallica’s ballads

Iron Maiden - The Trooper
Amazing display of musicality and talent combined
"I heard a thing once and didn't like and thought all of it was like that"
I thought about rock and metal and jazz and blues this way, but grew out of it.
And so a Metalhead is born - keep exploring, it's a huge and richly diverse genre with some incredible bands 🤘

Hi, Im going to try and explain the absolute mess that is the subgenres of metal, which nobody can totally agree on, but heres my take:
Old school heavy metal:
Started in early 70s with sabbath, heavy zeppelin influence, just a bit darker
New wave of brittish heavy metal:
Started in the mid-70s, old school but faster with a bit of brittish punk involved (iron maiden is textbook NWOBHM).
(See cannibal corpse for an extreme example, or Death for a more typical one)
Power metal: started in the mid 80s and takes inspiration from old school heavy metal.
Nu metal:
Basically groove metal, but simplified down into a more comercialized version.
I recommend listening to Dream Theatre (all around prog), Mastodon (progressive sludge metal, sludge is a slightly sped up more punky version of doom), Gojira (progressive death metal, they have super melodic screams, listen to stranded), and Tool (progressive Groove metal, also sometimes considered hipster music, listen to Vicarious)
I think thats all the big ones, I left out all the tiny variations (which is why there wasnt a sludge metal section), and yeah this is a big complicated mess. Let me know if you have any questions. And everyone else who thinks they know more than me, feel free to correct anything I got wrong thats an indisputable fact (like a date), otherwise keep in mind everything else is just my opinion. Thanks.
I can argue with you on a lot of things
Hair metal was a bad nickname from thrashers
Black metal started late 80'
Glad to see you had fun with it, hope it makes you dive in a bit deeper into the genre lass, keep it up, nice vid!
React them live. Master of puppets live in Seattle 1989. Best concert ever recorded. Btw Metallica has an album that appeals to everyone. That's why they are so loved and also hated so much but they are still the biggest band in the world and they selling out every night
React "rainbow in the dark" - Dio
...any Dio!
Black Sabbath has always been my favorite band. I'm 55 years old. I still can't stop listening to them.
I’m 66 and have the experience.
Never pay attention to those lists, like Rolling Stone's.
It was probably better in this instance because she's not a hardcore metal head yet.
(smh)
And then there are all the unknown and niche albums that a hard-core long-time metal-head like me might know, but they certainly aren't good enough or influential enough to be on this list, especially over albums like Mercyful Fate's Don't Break The Oath, Lamb Of God's Ashes Of The Wake, Exhorder's Slaughter In The Vatican and Trouble's Psalm 9, none of which are on the list, and all of which are far more influential.
There has to be far better lists than this one.
metalstorm is quite good, but a bit elitist, which works fine for me :3
@@noneofyourbusiness3288 : It's better than Rolling Stone, but even they have Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Rush all over the top 50.
"so is this like, deaths come to kill him or something? i like it!" omg classic

Ozzy has so unique voice. Dickinson is the air raid siren, but if I would have to choose between them, I would choose Ozzy everytime.
Dikerson rules. But ozzy rules too.
From Black Sabbath, listen to their albums after Ozzy... with Ronnie James Dio.
Children of the Sea... Heaven and Hell. Both from the Heaven and Hell album.
from Iron Maiden, listen to Rime of the Ancient Mariner, based on the Samuel Taylor Coleridge poem and Alexander the Great, the best historical song ever. And Stranger in a Strange Land.
From Judas Priest, listen to Victim of Changes, Dreamer Deceiver, Beyond the Realms of Death.
Listen to Rush too. Not exactly metal. Tom Sawyer, Spirit of Radio, Red Barchetta, Xanadu,
gotta agree but you forgot deep purple and rainbow with dio.iron maiden hallowed be thy name [live]
