It's not from France. The recording you mean is from the Paris Theatre in Brussels, Belgium. I learned this from the liner notes in the booklet of the 2016 Paranoid Super Deluxe Edition. I too always thought the recording was made in Paris, France, although I thought it odd the RTBF was involved. RTBF is "Radio Televison Belge Française", aka Radio and Televison Belgium, French. Belgium has three official languages, Flemish (which is my native tongue) spoke in Flanders, the North part against the Durch border, French, spoken in Wallonia, the South part bordering on France and German; spoken in the so-called "East-Cantons" near the German border. I speak all three, by the way, plus a bit of English, of course.

Gday, I got randomly recommended your reaction videos for some reason and ended up watching them all because it reminded me of my own venture into metal when I was about 14 or so and I got all nostalgic.
Anyway, that lead me to thinking back to what songs really helped me get into it and pushed me further along. My dad was always into hard rock so I grew up with a lot of Led Zep, Sabbath and Deep Purple but I found myself gradually craving those heavier moments in those songs more and more (first time I noticed it was probably with Immigrant Song). Anyway, here's a list of songs that really heavily impacted me early on in my exploration of heavier music.
    Sails of Charon - Scorpions
    Lights Out - UFO
    Bewitched- Candlemass
    Cemetery Gates - Pantera
Holy Wars... The Punishment Due - Megadeth
Far Beyond the Sun - Yngwie Malmsteen
    Crazy Train - Ozzy Osbourne
That should probably do, I don't want to recommend a crazy amount of stuff, but all of these songs had a big impact on me back in the day.

    • @zolarczakl6815
      @zolarczakl6815 3 роки тому

I went all in pretty fast, listened to a lot of Megadeth, Slayer and Metallica, got into Iron Maiden (took me a while to get used to Bruce Dickinson's voice, but I really liked the guitars), Nevermore, Pantera and Opeth (the latter two got me used to screamed vocals) before moving into heavier realms like Kreator, Death and Morbid Angel. I didn't get into Judas Priest until a bit later, but they've become one of my all time favs.

This album and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath are my personal Sabbath favorites, but all their six first ones are stone classics in Rock history. They never strayed too far away from their Jazz and Blues roots (especially on songs like Planet Caravan) while at the same time they totally reinvented the sound of Rock music with the detuned guitars and theme and tempo changes (Iron Man) with even classical and avant garde music here and there. The two last ones with Ozzy and the ones with Dio singing are quite different but well worth listening to, especially the Dio ones. Heaven And Hell is a definite Metal classic. I like Born Again too, but that’s surely an anomaly album before they sort of lost the plot in the mid eighties. But keep this up, Kira! It’s an absolute joy seeing someone react to Rock music with fresh ears. It reminds me of how it was for me hearing this music for the first time too and that’s a good reminder for any person who’s known these albums inside out for decades already, so thank you! PS: are you by chance named after Kira Roessler who played bass in Black Flag? Just curious :) Again: thank you! Keep Rocking!

Hi Kira, from a mexican fan of yours. If you want to hear the heaviest Black Sabbath ever, I would recommend you to hear the BORN AGAIN album, this album way ahead than the rest of the bands at that time, is scary, heavier and is groundbreaking. If you are brave enough, hear this album at night, shut down the lights and you will experiment the most amazing feeling of Black Sabbath.
Keep going with your heavy metal reaction, I really enjoy it.

First things frist, great entertaining reaction (as always) to a near perferct album! I think the first half of Paranoid emphasize nicely the reason some consider Sabbath the "heaviest jazz band of all times" - especially the rhythm section plays with so much space. grace & pace to cite my favourite car manufacturer :D My secret favourite next to the obviouse heavy hitters is Planet Caravan for that very reason!

i definitely recommend black sabbath’s Vol.4, it’s probably my favourite album of all time, in my opinion the peak of black sabbath. the creative genius of tony iommi is so well shown on ‘wheels of confusion’ and bill’s drums and geezer’s bass are just flawless yet feel super raw and full of emotion. the entire album has this feeling of floating in space.

A song that also would somewhat satisfy your quest in search of 'metal' is Manowar's "Battle Hymn", from their 1982 debut album "Battle Hymns". A bit of an uneven affair with two songs that really stand out, besides the aformentioned Hymn, there's also "Dark Avenger" with a break containing a narration by the famous Orson Welles.

If you're a fan of the piano as well as bass and drums then there's this band you're going to want to check out : Nightwish. Start with The Greatest Show on Earth.
Also, every percussion fan has to listen to Rush. They were a Canadian three-piece with Neil Peart as drummer. He's widely described as "your favourite drummer's favourite drummer". Sadly, Neil passed away not all that long ago. Songs of theirs that I'd recommend include 2112 (an entire album side in seven sections), Cygnus X-1, Cygnus X-1 part 2 (Hemispheres), The Weapon, Tom Sawyer, Subdivisions, and, basically, everything they ever recorded. During their live shows, Neil's drum solos were the stuff of legend.

Bill Ward is one of the great rock drummers. Just a great album. I grew up in the 60s and 70s, and back then groups weren't locked into a genre, and you saw bands stretch a bit on albums. That changed with British Steel.

It would be interesting to see you take on a video that is rather popular on UA-cam. A project called Ayreon. Basically a rock opera venture in metal form, with an ensemble of different singers given roles on various concept albums. In the 25 years or so this has been going on, one of the more popular songs is a song called "The Day That The World Breaks Down", featuring 11 singers introducing their respective characters in the play for the album where this is the opening song. This is newer stuff, dating back to 2017.

You seem to like the groovier side of metal. You might dig some of these:
For something more like early Sabbath, I suggest Kyuss. Good starter songs: "Green Machine", "Demon Cleaner", "One Inch Man", and "Spaceship Landing".
For something heavier, but still groovy, maybe some Helmet. "Unsung" was a hit for them. "FBLA II", "Milquetoast", and "Exactly What You Wanted" would all be good followups.
Both Kyuss and Helmet have done great covers of Black Sabbath songs, too. You can hear the creative genealogy.

'Iron Man' was originally 'Iron Bloke' after Ozzy heard the riff and said it sounded like an iron bloke walking... the great thing about early Sabbath is the sound is surprisingly 'dry' and yet it often feels like there's an entire orchestra going on in there. They figured out something that I think nobody else was ready to face up to: it was the sound of that guitar noise itself, reduced to the basics, that people wanted to hear. If there was a solo thrown in, so much the better.
