- For the first time in 13 years, Cindy Ali can breathe a sigh of relief, after being found not guilty of murdering her daughter Cynara - who had cerebral palsy - in Scarborough, Ont.
Crown prosecutors had argued in the original trial that after years of being the primary caregiver for the infant-like Cynara, Ali smothered her daughter with a pillow and then created an elaborate story about a home invasion at their Scarborough home to cover up her crime.
Ali’s defence lawyers had argued, however, that Cynara was cherished by her mother and died either after seizures that might have been triggered by the alleged home invasion, or from a lung infection, which she was known to be susceptible to.
In a courtroom full of Ali’s family, friends and supporters following a retrial on Friday, Ali was acquitted of the first-degree murder charge and found not guilty of manslaughter.
Catherine McDonald has the details.

This sounds awfully suspicious on her part
Why is this woman smiling?
Because she got away with murder.
I've never been in jail but if I just got out I'd probably be smiling too
Because she was released from prison? Most people would be smiling if they were in her shoes.
@glgl
Good answer.
Because she spent 4 years in prison for a crime she didn’t commit. The lawyer Lockyer who defended her at her retrial doesn’t defend guilty people. If you research him you’ll understand better.
I can’t even imagine what it must be like to have a child that is severely disabled. I know that as a person that has all my abilities, I would not like that live like that especially if there was a lot of suffering involved like seizures. I don’t think I would want to send a mother to jail for this
How about murder, would you send a mother to jail for that?
She should have come up with a better story one that was believable
1000% sure she did this.
Those eyes don’t lie and the daughters body language to 👁️👁️👁️👁️ scary stuff
Based on what?
And how do you 100 percent know she did this? Were you there?
You don’t know anything. I’m 1000% sure you broke into her house and did it!
How’s that sound to you? I’m sure you did it and you’re going to be arrested and stand trial. When you’re convicted you’ll be sentenced to life in prison. Better get a good lawyer.
Good luck!
Karma is unforgiving and never sleeps.
What a freaking nightmare ~
