    Whenever I think of Doctor Who, the 2014 logo always comes to mind. 12's revised version of the 2010 logo screams Who to me more than any other logo, and I can't help but wonder if we'll ever see it again.
    As for the others from NuWho, I think the 2018 logo looks amazing, the RTD one is solid, and while I really like the look of the 2022 one, I can't help but feel a bit disappointed they're just doing "the 70s one that everyone likes" again. Would have made more sense to me to do an updated version of RTD's original logo.
    Cool video btw :)

      I think it makes sense though, given it’s going to be the Diamond anniversary to use the diamond logo. Even if I’m not personally keen on it.

    The newest logo looks great on the collectors edition blurays even if its kind of anachronistic. But that's the Doctor in a nutshell, so, fitting.

    3 1/2 years on? I'll weigh in...
    1. Pertwee/McGann - you're spot on w/ your #1. I'd love it if they returned to this logo... otherwise keep #2.
    2. Whittaker - It's really grown on me the past few years and looks great on everything
    3. Baker - Several iterations of this look good to me. It's busy, but the font is distinctive and it's just iconic.
    4. Hartnell - It stands out incredibly well and was perfect for its time
    5. Davison/C. Baker - I want this as an actual neon sign.. either version
    6. Smith/Capaldi - It's fallen a couple of spots recently. It just doesn't read well, though I do like the TARDIS "DW".
    7. Eccleston/Tennant - The golden surfboard was the least impressive thing about the revival -- agree with you there!
    8. McCoy - It's terrible, but still iconic and definitely couldn't be mistaken for anything else. Doodled this one a lot!
    9. Troughton - Just screams "no effort" and felt like a change just to say they'd changed.

    My favourite will always be the 2005-2010 logo as it was my first and is basically my childhood, however I never liked it until they made it brighter and more orange in the title sequence. 2010 looked better with the DW outside the two words and even better without, although having it in a generic white colour on packaging got very boring over time - will be glad to see it go, particularly from the front of DW magazine. And yes your first choice is undoubtedly the eponymous logo of Doctor Who, however it is certainly overused and I get a bit defensive when it's used to brand the show's different eras, like the recent steelbook releases, for instance, doesn't look right at all.

    • @CulturePhilter
      @CulturePhilter  6 років тому

      DoctorVision - I quite like having a “everything but the current stuff” logo. Although as I was several years late buying the series 6 box set and ended up with one with that logo on it does make my shelf look a bit odd amongst the spines with 2010-2017 logo.

    Well.... hmmm.... no, Troughton's logo is not the typewriter font of the time at all - if it ever was (it sort of is now arguably, with the use of word processors, etc, and it was a fairly common typeface for setting books around the time). It was only 30 or so years old then, being used by the Times newspaper. It was based on Roman typefaces, which then did get associated with classicness and classiness in ways it doesn't now - more with bogstandardness than anything else, these days.
    It actually made sense to use this font (in a pre-logo era) for a show that was about time travel - even though Troughton was one of the least time-travelling incarnations.
    So just pushing back on that slightly... no real quibble though with where you have placed it.
    And not like I'm necessarily qualified, my guilty favourite is the McCoy logo - which you put at the bottom ... but totally get your reasoning.
    In fact they are all quite good, but such is the nature of ranking that something has to come last :)

    • @CulturePhilter
      @CulturePhilter  Рік тому

      Yes it may not have been actually used for typewriters but still somehow has that feel. Probably, like you say, because it’s used so much in printed press.

      @@CulturePhilter You had to be there watching Tom Baker on Saturday night back in the day! Who knew while as a child under the age of 10 that the 1970s was the high-watermark of the classic series. It still gives me a thrill as a an adult to see that logo with that wonderful music when I put on Terror of of the Zygons or City of Death. I just love everything about that era including that logo with the word 'Doctor' in an arch-way style on my 1970s target novelizations. Doctor Who the series in that era had a certain charm, a certain something extra...it had a bouquet ( Sorry, I could not resist typing that) that the revamped modernized series does not have. So, I associate my great memories and Tardis journeys with the Doctor and that logo. Having said that I do like much of the modern series including some of the logos. I am so glad Series 12 was very good.

    Surprisingly the new one is my favorite, and this is coming from someone who prefered the classic logos, specifically the John Pertwee logo, I think the thing that makes it my favorite is the line going through it (no joke) because it reminds me of gallifreyan text, i just wished it was stacked honestly.

      It's too modern, too circular. It doesn't fit doctor who well. I mean, it might fit the controversial new doctor perfectly, but based on an analysis of pre-2016 doctor who, this logo doesn't fit very well, and even if it did, I just find the logo kind of boring, except for the H and the extra lines, and that part looks kinda tacky. 3) Eccleston/Tennant - well-designed and modern; grew up with it
    4) Smith/Capaldi - quirky and unique
    5) Davison/C. Baker - not aged that well, but I like it
    6) Hartnell - chilling but generally pretty bland
    7) T. Baker - just a little too colourful for my taste; works better in blue

    Being born in the 80s is not the same as being a teen, or older, in the 80s.
    When will you youngsters get that through your thick heads?
    I wouldn't deign to claim that I know all about the Beatles just because I was born in the 60s.
    The classic 80s logo is ... a classic. If the only thing you don't like about it is the "busy background", you need better criteria for judging.
    It felt fresh, it felt distinctive, it looked amazing on merchandise.
    It is pretty much THE logo a lot of Who fans think of, if they've been watching since the original series.

    • @CulturePhilter
      @CulturePhilter  5 років тому

      Argeaux2 - lol. When did I claim to “know everything” about the 80s? 😄
      Is your argument that people are not allowed opinions on anything from before they were born?
      Also, by the way, that diamond logo is the 70s logo not the 80s one. If you’re going to have a go on the basis that “you don’t know what your talking about” then at least get your facts right 😉
