Thanks for explaining a lot of the salient features of AD2 without over doing it. Also for not turning this into a sales pitch, think it should be obvious that the vast majority of people who would watch this already own the software.
the amount of scope for sound designing in this software is crazy, i can and do spend alot of time messing around with drums you can end up with a totally original sound rather than relying on the presets, it really is great.
Agreed, it's great for grabbing something suitable quickly for initial work but you can make very unique things with it once once you get familiar with all the possibilities.
Thanks Dave...I've owned and used both Addictive Drums and AD2 with addons for years...Your video shows more creative uses for shaping for me, beyond the drop and lazy loads. Great for percussion adds and world music drums:)!
I love tis software also. I prefer using my own effects so I output everything without any of AD2's effect. Also, you can create duplicate outputs for any kit piece, RMs and OHs and parallel compress that way. That frees up Flexi's 1, 2, and 3 for other kit pieces. I also like the ability to create my own drum map. I'm used to GM but made a variation of it so the cymbal chokes are easier to get to. I wish there were separate outputs for the top and bottom snare mic, at least there is a blend though.
I am attempting to import a MIDI sequence from Guitar Pro 7 straight into Reaper and use Addictive Drums 2 as the plugin. Although there is the option to remap the MIDI map from AD2's default to GM which GP7 uses (or even just to completely customize the mapping) I still have two issues: 1. GP7 has three Hihat hits; Closed (42), Half Open (92), and Fully Open (46). I have songs that use all three Hihat settings and I cannot seem to find a way to use Half Open, any time it is meant to play a half open hat (92 on the MIDI keyboard) it will default to 46 and play a fully open hat. 2. Although I admit I am unsure how to use cymbal chokes in AD2 yet, if I have one programmed in a GP7 MIDI sequence it will just play a normal hit instead of a choke. eg. Crash High (49) instead of Crash High Choke (97) Does anyone know if there is a way for me to deal with these issues? I admit this probably isn't the most conventional way to create drums in Reaper but with a song that has multiple odd time signatures and tempo changes I find it much easier to write the drum track out as sheet music than building beats from scratch in Reaper or AD2 Thanks to anyone that can help!
Great software but how do you save Tom Sets? Even the manual says that you can Load and Save Tom Sets from the "SET" button in the tom kit pieces but you can only Load.
Hello! Is there any way to change the beats via MIDI like the P.Change is doing to voices in instruments channels (Cubase software)? For example the first 4 bars playing rock beat and the next 4 bars playing RNB beat ! All information of changing beats via MIDI! Thanks in advance!
That was a great tutorial. Thanks. I have a ?. I want to play my Alesis drums through AD2. I know you can drag drums into DAW but I want to play the drums. I get sound but they are not correct. One of my toms plays a clap sound. Any advice? Thanks.
I've been using addictive drums 2 for ages now, but all of my drums are down the middle. How do I pan the toms so that when I program a fill, I get the toms left and right?
I'm about to start podcasting, and I need to find a good software to record and edit the audio from. I've never used any form of audio editing software, so I don't know what is preferred by most. any Tips?
I would have loved to have seen more info on the output selection. I'm really struggling to properly understand pre, pre + master, post, post + master. Which to choose. I understand how it should work but when I for example choose post + master and then solo one particular piece, it's fader controls the output of the piece but why doesn't the master fader seem to have any affect? Is the kit piece sending out on it's own as well as to the master or something? Basically the master fader doesn't seem to do anything and I don't know what it's actually controlling.
So the anything pre-fader means the faders in AD2 will not affect the volume of the DAW tracks. Post fader is the exact opposite. On post fader, the faders in the mix view on AD2 also change the volume in the DAW. The only difference with these settings plus master is simply giving you another assignable output. I've used the master out at times for the FX signal only coming from AD2. If all tracks are using their individual outs the only thing left is the reverb/delay FX going to the master fader. Using this as an output will given you access to the AD2 FX engine outputting to the master track created by your daw.
OK that has helped a lot and also led to me finding some other things out. For example the BUS channel. I'm still just learning and channels like yours are great help. I appreciate your response.
when i drag and drop does the effects go to my master-bus or are they on whatever track i have the plugin on ? my struggle is keeping the AD effects while adding and tweaking further in my fl20mixer?
Yes you can use it with your edrums, they even have a demo version for free. I use the paid version and it even has a Solo feature that lets you use it without a DAW.

When I route the kit pieces to individual tracks in my Daw (Reaper), it comes out super hot. I'm always clipping. Any suggestions on how to get the clipping under control?
I know this was a year ago but for future reference, your best bet is to either set the routing to be post fader and pull them down in AD2 or to put a gain plugin at the beginning of your FX chain and pull it down that way.
hey uploader (or anyone that might know).is there a way to pitch shift the entire kit ?(basically just pitch shift AD2 as a whole).right now ,what i do is compose the break at around 80 bpm, export, load the wav and shift it up to 160.its time consuming and doesnt allow me to make corrections easily ...i want to pitch everything up in real time.(i know since this is a vst thats trying to go for super authentic drums they probably dont have a pitch feature cause it would defeat the purpose.but it would be great for me for early/mid 90s jungle/dnb) do you know of a way?(AD2 is not affected by the the pitch wheel in the reason 10 vst rack)please advise ,thank you

Been using this a long time, and ez DRUMMER TOO. rEECENTLY BEGAN USING THE ez DRUMMER song creator AND IT IS SO MUCH EASIER TO BUILD A SONG IN THAT THAN IT IS HAVING TO DRAG LOOPS IN TO MY DAW with Addictive that it isn't even funny. What a shame Addictive doesn't have it's own easy to use timeline sog creator. When you drag loops in to the daw you have to try to move the damn window around and way off to the side to see enough of the daw track. The space between te loops is big sometimes and other times the loops fit rigth up against the one brfore and you have to try it and listen to even know how close to drag them. None of these problems in the EZ drummer timeline song creator. Every fill, every chorus loop, all of them just easily drag right up to the loop before, always the same. I am now building entire song structures in the EZ song maker in literally 20 minutes, fills, endings, everything. Also, you can drag a loop in to the search section of the song timeline and EZ will find DOZENS of loops you can use with that loop, endings, pre choruses, choruses, fills, verses, and a BUNCH of them. Here's a hint to XLN, TIME TO ADD A TIMELINE SONG CREATOR IN the program itself, one as easy to use as EZ drummer's is. It is absolutely miserable trying to string a song together in Addictive. Creating a song in EZ is, oh, about a HUNDRED TIMES easier and more fluid. It keeps your creativity going when you can easily drag and drop and choose from dozens and dozens of loops right there at your call.
Haha - you accidently pushed the 'Caps Lock' key in that first sentence, didn't you? You couldn't even take the time to go back and fix the mess, could you? Lol "No, I cOULDN'T EVEN TAKE THE TIMe to do that".. LMFAO..

XLN audio is owned by Max Martin. They discontinued support of the original Addictive Drums in 2014, forcing users who had already paid for it to upgrade to AD2 if they updated their OS past high Sierra. I just went through a battle with their marketing manager over this through email after updating to Mojave and losing 400$ in software / adpaks and them refusing to budge. That a man who has a net worth of 260 million dollars would allow his company to nickel and dime musicians over an update is outrageous. No integrity.
Try turning off all the effects for each kit piece and all the master effects, they are the usual culprits. You can then use the effects in your DAW for individual drums if you're using it as a plugin (Multi 4x Stereo, 10x Mono).
