    I got Addictive Drums 2 plus a couple add-ons with Sonar X3 Producer a number of years ago. It has been my absolute go-to ever since, and I was a drummer before I switched to keys and writing/composing! I have it mapped to my Alesis DM10 Studio kit that has a couple add-ons and it works like a charm! My "default" kit is the Studio Prog kit. I have customized a few of the cymbals and tuned the toms. It sounds INCREDIBLE!

    I’ve used Addictive Drums 2 for several years. It works so well with my electric kit, but the Beats tab is incredibly useful for me as a songwriter. Many times I’ll load up a beat and let that guide my guitar playing. The number of times I’ve written songs in that way is 100% why AD2 will always have a home in my studio.

I want to use this in my home studio as well As a VST plugin in my DAW so I can use it in my Own productions and as a practise kit. To let it trigger the VSt via my Alesis kit. So because the plugin is so cheap now and because of this video I decided to finaly buy it. Thanks Mike! ;-) Keep the great videos coming !

    I have AD2 and EZD2. AD2 drums sound more realistic and punchier but EZD2 gives a little bit more when trying to create a drum track. I like how AD2 saves a step or 2 when bouncing the drum track down from midi to wave and you get more hands on when shaping the drum sounds and saves time with that too before dropping them in the DAW. I use both AD2 and EZD2. I use whatever inspires me at the moment and what I'm trying to do with the drum track at the moment.

    Great video Mike! I have been using AD for years and produced quite a few projects with it. But, I am going crazy tonight. I saw an XLN video a couple of hours ago on how to create cymbal swells in 3 minutes or less. In this video it shows the presenter dragging the mouse pointer on a cymbal from the bottom to the top, and it appears to me that this automatically produces multiple hits that grow louder as the mouse is moved upwards. However, for me, if I left click and drag I only get one hit on the cymbal. I have tried using the scroll wheel (with various settings from the Mouse Panel on my Windows 10 PC), which does produce multiple hits, but very jerky and hard to control. How is he doing that?

    • @johnfinney1869
      @johnfinney1869 Рік тому

      So I sent the question to XLN Tech Support and received this:
      "Thanks for getting in touch with us. Ah, that is done by just clicking(intensely) while dragging the mouse upwards on the Cymbal kit piece, there isn't any special function I'm afraid. I think it works better if you have an external mouse, I gave it ago on my laptop and it's a bit difficult clicking and moving at the same time.
      Hopefully this answers your questions.
      Please let us know if you would have any further questions.
      ...And I replied with this:
      "I am using a desktop with a real mouse, and I cannot control dragging while intensely clicking.
      I got a notion to Google "rapid fire mouse" and low and behold the are mice that gamers use that are programmable to do just that - hold the left button down and squeeze off rounds of ammunition to fire off multiple rounds to a set limit. I wonder if this is how he does it?"
      Does any of you know the answer?

    What makes this so great? When you put your foot down on a Ferrari you have speed, but not a great deal of control. You do however in a Rolls Royce. Now imagine control, comfort AND electrifying speed in one great looking package.. For me that's how I describe AD2. It has everything and if you dive under the hood (As you have shown in your great video) before long you can get the sound and feel you want without even giving it your full attention. It's easy to use and it wasn't that expensive in relation to it's competitors. It's actually one of two external add-ons I really need in Ableton. The other being Serum!

    I recently bought a Yamaha DTX6 kit to re-record drum tracks from some of my older recordings. I am from the analog world and not very versed with Midi. As I began playing the DTX kit and getting used to it I found out I could use Midi to record my new tracks simultaneously and individually into my DAW so I could have total flexibility with each individual drum part on mixdown. Not to assume, but will Addictive Drums allow me to do this as a plugin for each track? Does that make sense?

    Very impressive software, Mike. Thanks for this. There is so much to this that for most engineers you'd get a Peter Principle effect (people rise to the level of their own incompetence) In fact the only way to avoid running up against your limitations with this, would be to involve a real drummer, in order to truly accurately simulate a real performance. (Which begs the question, why not jat record real drums?)
    Still a super impressive, extremely well thought out plug-in. The only possible feature, I can think of, they could add, would be recordable user patches that would interact with software's features.
    I'm almost scared to look at the price, but here goes... (LOLOL)

I am now using Studio One 6 and Mainstage and I hate the the sequencing interface on them both. It's like soooooo much thought goes into sampling but they forget about how a song evolves. For example, 3 variations of an intro, Main A, B, C, Fill up, fill down, Break and 3 variations and 3 outros. When are they eve going to bring that back?? People like me need that kind of stuff, not sitting behind a DAW making variations of drum patterns only to find out everyone is changing to Scenes. I laughed so hard when all the keyboard manufacturers went to this to help speed up workflow??? If I could figure out a way to trigger the sounds in Addictive Drums via midi signal I would keep using the YAMAHA PSR-9000. I am quite certain that could be done and I would be the happiest songwriter ever.

    This is a great plugin. I’ve used it for years. The only downside is control of the cymbals. Cymbals are miked with room and overhead. Those mikes capture the entire kit. I want to add effects to just the cymbals but I don’t see a workaround to do that without affecting the other pieces of the kit. If anyone knows a way, please let me know. Thanks

    • @seanwalsh999
      @seanwalsh999 2 роки тому

      Yes I have the same problem but it wasn't so much with adding effects but controlling the individual volumes of the cymbals. I did stumble on individual cymbal volume, it is in the left hand side of the cymbal box, you will see an "L" well that stands for volume it took me a few years to stumble on that as I was frustrated that I couldn't raise the volume of the hi-hats, now I can. As to adding an effect out-board to the program I don't think there is a work around, but Mike showed how you can use the programs effects section to add an effect to any instrument.
      You can email them, they are very speedy and helpful, they have answered many of my Midi mapping questions with my e-kit especially with my hi-hat controls.

      @jomamastool 2 роки тому +2

      You can pull the kick, snare, and toms out of the overheads in the kit mixer. And pull the cymbals out of the room the same way. That way you have an isolated cymbal track

      Hi Tony. They are very different beasts. Both good.
      Modo of course, is extremely customizable, because they are modelled drums. But feel like some of the kits with AD2, just sound so so good.

    For me ADD is more easier to put in the mix, EZDrummer 3 is good but the sound so perfect, so not easy to match with another instrument who not have the same quality of sound, so we can hear the EZD not natural in the mix, ADD can adapte with all quality of sound,
    I have EZD3 but after all i go back to ADD

    Here we are in 2024 and I'm about to buy AD2 INSTEAD of EZDrummer 3 even though EZD3 has 7 kits... ALL because AD2 allows you to change the pitch and all kinds of things to each piece of the kit and EZD3 DOESN'T and Toontrack tries to make you upgrade to SD3 for $150 more, just to do what I should be able to do in the first place! Just as good as superior drummer 3? Nah, used these too and the sounds are not as good as sd3. Main things are also better: adding more drums to existing kit, more kinds of compressors, reverbs and other fx, stacking sounds on drums, more rooms with different sizes. Compared to SD3, this is outdated.

      Because something is wrong with your settings/mixing/routing.
      Every sample sounds absolutely amazing in this thing. Superb clarity.
      Every kit piece has a full strip of processing and OH and room mic control if you press the little "E" on the top right of each box in "Kit" view, in case you didn't know. With the stuff in there you can shape the tone to ANYTHING you want, even before your DAW.
      Itt's near on impossible for this thing to sound bad......
