Prove me wrong
In a similar way that artists deflect the hyperpop title, many numetal acts barely even identify as numetal. It seems more of an era or style than a genre. There is incredible music in both those categories, but not a large percentage imo.
as a former member of the hyperpop community, the label "hyperpop" has been a cancer to the community. now smaller artists in the scene who make "hyperpop" aren't making what people have come to know as hyperpop. folks simply try to make a song purely inspired by established hyperpop artists and not the artists that inspired the established artists. they don't even bother to pay respect to the old heads that pioneered the genres these folks are mashing up. they don't understand what it is that made this genre stand out in the first place and are just trying to replicate the success of artists like 100 Gecs or SOPHIE. no hate to the folks who do this, but they gotta understand the damage they are doing to the identity of the genre. hyperpop is meant to be experimental, not stagnant from ruminating on past releases from your favorite artist as a means to replicate them. hyperpop has to evolve in order to continue being hyperpop and not just being pop. no hate to pop too. y'all get the point, I hope.
I don’t get the point and I’ve heard so many people make that point with other genres. I want to know how you think a genre can be damaged. To me, a genre is an arbitrary label; arbitrary because an artist will always have fans if they keep releasing good music. If the music is bad, how could it “damage” the genre when people can listen to whatever they want? Especially the ones who are fans of said genre. I’m genuinely asking and I want to hear your opinion
@@sharp5flat9Probably what they mean is the reputation of a genre and what people think it's supposed to sound like. Even if it changes heavily whether it becomes bad or good is totally subjective so this take is purist but valid lol
@@sharp5flat9 im not about gatekeeping. don’t get me wrong. a lot of these folks in the scene are younger and don’t really have their voice yet. a lot of them kinda copy instead of understanding how their music functions or even taking their own influences from different places. what i meant by the take of not respecting the old heads, i meant that people are copying stuff from 100 gecs and aren’t understanding how their work is almost a pastiche while expanding upon the art it’s referential to in original ways. all they have understanding of is the pastiche without knowledge of what it’s paying homage to. if you’re going to copy the genre-bending hyperpop stuff, at least know what the genres are. if you don’t wanna listen to all that shit, that’s also hella cool and rad. but then maybe mashup the influence you get from those artists instead of mimicking their success. obviously hyperpop is not monolithic and 100 gecs are not representative of the sound of hyperpop as a whole. neither are smaller hyperpop artists. i’m talking about the folks i specifically think got hyperpop into it’s pop-grunge phase and got people confused as to what hyperpop even is. the folks who i think caused the most harm to the genre.

@@sharp5flat9 oh, i wasn’t necessarily talking about this song, but i do think this song is like a sanitized version of hyperpop. i’m not against more mainstream pop style hyperpop, but i didn’t like the song. i didn’t hate the song though. i thought the bridge was really weirdly bad and kinda outta key and the verses were mid with the carti verse being the worst. the repetitive “i love it” hook i actually thought went crazy and was the best part of the track. i’m still hopeful for this record. im hoping this is a lowlight of the record. and about the copying other artists stuff, don’t sweat it too much. you’ll find your voice. i’d still even consider myself a young artist. i just have experience because i’ve been in the industry for a long time. i dealt with that stuff too, but don’t stop yourself from experimenting just because you’re afraid it sounds too similar to something else. see where it goes and if it sounds too similar, just get some advice from friends. see if other people can hear that it’s too similar. if it’s too similar, just shelve it and dive into more music and try to get more influences. our creativity is really kinda just an amalgamation of our favorite parts of our influences. a wise man once said “yoink and twist”. if you figure out the yoink part, you can start working on how to twist it into something original. that’s half the battle already done. but yeah, i also love a lot of the bands that were considered grunge as well. when i’m talking about pop-grunge im talking about the late 90’s to early 00’s bands from after the nirvana craze. every record label wanted to sign the next nirvana. people weren’t paying attention to kurt’s influences at that point, they weren’t looking at how kurt combined his influences and figuring out how they could apply that to their own style. they just copied someone else’s style with a vague understanding of it.

with popular, and this, it feels like Carti is just trying to make waves in pop and hip-hop to speed run a "the weekend" level of fame, sacrificing quality & consistency for repetitive/mid-tier quality music . as a self-proclaimed carti glazer everything seems disingenuous and combined with him cancelling his tour it has me really frustrated with him as an artist.
I feel this bro ur not alone, sucks seeing him not try at all anymore
Not to mention the shit he did with Adin Ross knowing there were thousands of his fans watching
This is what u guys deserve for acting like Carti is an amazing artist and not just a guy who gets carried by his producers
I hope carti won't hit me if I stop glazing
This is such a misread
next time me and my friends are on the way back from a rave, I’m gonna put this on just to see their reaction
You’ll lose aux cord privileges for life
I thought this was a Twenty One Pilots track review and saw the video title and was like "Oh thank god, its just Camilla Cabello"
Lmao yeah let 21P rest in peace
Uh oh.
😂😂😂😂
Hated it so much at first , gave it a couple chances now I love it .
she does not "got it" !!
Never understood the appeal of Carti
Die lit is so wavy genuinely, so is his self titled. Just chill vibes all the way
he's sorta an acquired taste
anthony lookin like he just came back from squid games 💀💀
I think hyperpop being so dead that Camila Cabello of all people was called upon to revive it just means it needs to stay dead.
Gucci mane lemonade sample is genuinly the most insluting part of
Anthony getting more creative reviewing the track than the people who made it to begin with
it's literally charli xcx from shein I don't understand how some people feel the same many of us felt for "unlock it" but for this track.... is literally so baaaad
Realizing charlis von dutch is prob about camila cabello. makes perfect sense cuz she basically made camila famous by writing senorita for her then camila goes ahead and blatantly rips off multiple of charlis songs and attempts to copy her whole image. Camila is pathetic shes not fooling anyone she’ll always be an obnoxious theatre kid
Nice teal Adidas
I hate it
Saying this song sounds like a 3 minute super cut of ‘Lilo and Stich’ is a insult to Hawaiians everywhere and I will not have it 💀
Camila Cabello and Playboi Carti? That matchup SOUNDS like a recipe for disaster.
I heard camilla cabello and lowered my expectations to 0 and was still disappointed
your fake crying in the beginning was absolutely hilarious. thank you for that lmao
Honestly i kinda luv it weirdly. It wouldnt work if camila cabello wasnt the hottest woman in the world and carti wasnt carti, but they are, so it does. Like with all of carti’s music, you have to listen to it over and over again for it to sound good
You might not like the song Melon, but iluvitiluvitiluvitiluvitiluvit
OOOH
I love this song so much i feel crazy that everyone hates it 😭
It's so funny because I say another comment that said they thought they were going crazy because everyone loved this song.
"Austin texted me..." I like that wordplay right there
Can't wait for the Cowboy Carter album review.
I actually just listened to the song. I kinda liked it lol
Carti has turned into a mid machine! 🤘🏼😎
The Minecraft Villager voice is something I wont be able to unhear in Cartis new songs from now on, thanks melon
Cartison rapping like he gets payed millions to stand in someones room in the dark.
This is how generic taylor swift fans believe that Charli XCX sounds like
I’m a fan of both and this song isn’t even close to that viewpoint 😂
Girl bffr she does sound like that 😂
I don't know why people are hating how carti sounds now, he sounds awful in all his songs after wlr
All gas stations on high Carti alert after this one
im ngl this song fucking slaps to me. its obviously flawed but its something i can see myself turning on to dance to in my room lol.
I knew I wasn't crazy. Hearing the Gucci 'Brrr!' ad-libs I thought Gucci Mane was going to be featured and to my surprise it was Carti.
Playman carbonation
Bro 💀
You would’ve luved this if it was called Cheerleader
I appreciate the return to form with a music review, but feel free to highlight more labor disputes, too.
I will say that watching Carti stans and Camilla stans interact on twitter has been a lot of fun at least
1:36 little did he know when he said this that a hyperpop album released only two months later would be his favorite of the year and a 10
Fantano be a Minecraft villager in Squid Game at this point... and if It was called to pimp a I LUV IT he would have given it a 10
A poor imitation of some good hyperpop songs along the years, its still gonna be a soundtrack for a huge pile of brain rot tiktoks tho.
yappers degree
This is one of the worst songs I’ve ever heard genuinely
Yea i agree, Carti just goofy af now
Man, don't go about saying this BS is hyperpop, damn, the disrespect.
Saying Carti sounds like a Minecraft Villager lately is shockingly accurate.
Do NOT talk about carri
nah bruh this song is not it
Carti is trash always been trash
Based
I wasn't aware everyone hates this track until now. I listened to it and thought it was fire. I thought the Fein chorus is way more annoying tho
I love how the only difference between Ripping a Genre off and making it is just whether people like it or not.
Jonathan Davis called, he wants his track suit back
L take
love what you said about creating a song within a genre when you don't have appreciation for it--i feel like something similar is happening with all the mainstream pop artists who are clearly trying to make disco songs. like... the heart and is NOT there and you can SO hear it
Finaly someone recognizes the INSANITY of this song existing
