Fellow Orlando, Florida attorney here! This was a great comparative chat and I learned so much! One of my professors in law school was a judge in Family Court. She said her record for doing a simplified divorce was 7 minutes. The parties came in with all their ducks in a row and wanted to be done!

California here! I just want to say I love this show and have learned so much. I think every state should allow for parents birthdays as a standard practice. As a child of divorce, my mom used to keep us away from our dad on his birthday out of spite. So, I think that’s a wonderful incorporation

I like this judge. And the way she handels her cases. One question. The other judge say "time share" because they dont want the children to come off as property. But time share is used for property sharing. Vacation houses so on. So doesn't this make the children more like property???

My only concern is where she stated she preps the dad to ensure he knows who the kids teachers are and other pertinent information about their child. I believe dad should know those things without being prepped or memorizing this information before the trial unless the mom is soo ruthless that she does all she can to withhold the information or he is not asking the kids who their teachers are.

My bio dad hates it but my stepdad has been there for me since the beginning. When my bio dad wasn’t there, my stepdad always picked up the pieces. He was at all my important life events and the smallest ones.
I don’t speak to my dad anymore since I became 18. I also stopped visits/ overnights at 16. I was force to because of court when I was younger. He was very toxic and I’m glad to be free.

I know someone who they didn’t have a court ordered child custody agreement and the father went and took his kids for his agreed upon weekend visit and he ended up holding his kids for a whole year while he was deployed and gave his children to his mom that whole time. Lied to the grandma and told her it was an agreement. The mom couldn’t file a report because there was no custody order and the parents were divorced.😢

I love and enjoy watching these custody/child support cases. They're very interesting and educational. I wish there was a child support court show for Kentucky. My son is currently embroiled in a horrible child support case where his ex is doing everything she can to cause problems and custodial interference/parental alienation are allowed to continue because judges here don't pay attention to what I call "frequent flyer" parents who are constantly doing anything they can to cause the other parent grief.

Not long after, our son was born in 2008. He was so violent I had to leave the state. Our son is a handsome 14 autistic child that I've never received child support. We were never divorced. Florida is the same as indiana. Parents who arent married is the same until the father has to establish paternity even if he has signed the birth certificate. But Indiana is no longer a mother state. The parents divorced or unwed have a court order to claim the child every other tax year. Ex. Mom has even number of years and dad has odd. In indiana if the non custodial parent is behind in child support by more than 500 dollars they can be placed in the Tax offset program to have their tax refunds taken to pay for child support arrears. And the judge can can issue a body attachment and have a warrant on them and incarcerated and bond usually is 10% of the arrears amount. Also the courts can suspend the non custodial parent driver's license and put liens on any property they own. If child support is more than 1,000 dollars the non custodial parent will be charged with a felony. And be sentenced to probation for a year or up to a year in jail. Non custodial parents paychecks are garnishment up to 55% of their income. Custodial parent can now lose custody for malicious parent and parent alienation and can also be held in contempt of court for violation of parenting time and the judge can sentence them to counseling, make them reimburse the non custodial parent legal fees, community service and up to 30 days in jail. If they degrade the other parent in front of the kids, interfere with phone calls or refuse the kids contact by any means from the non custodial parent that's considered contempt of court. The non custodial parent is ordered to pick the children up for their weekend and the custodial parent is ordered to pick up the children when visitation is over. Unless they agree on some other way like meeting half way. The non custodial parent is by law supposed to be on school records and medical records and must be included in all aspects of raising the children. One parent can not harass the other parent during their parenting time that's also interfering. There's so much more. If the parents are having a problem with co parenting the judge can order the parent to communicate through an app that is connected to the court. Non custodial parent is to reimburse the custodial parent for anything after 500 dollars at 6%. Only if the parent who has the better health insurance isn't receiving it as an employment benefit. Quite a few judges aren't playing games with custodial parent with holding or interfering with parenting time. We have what is known as grandparents visitation rights and in some cases the step parent. In some cases if the non custodial parent doesn't want to be employed the judge can order the non custodial parents spouse to pay support. We have mediators known as guardian ad litem which is essentially the person who has only the best interests of the child and that is also how the judge makes their final decision for child custody is which parent has the best interests of the child. Parenting time...time number of days and even overnight visitation is based on the children age. When it comes to custody hearing the judge can allow a child 14 years or older to decide which parent they want to live with. And in some cases a child as young as 11 depending on the maturity level of the child.

One thing i hate about FL, is that its an automatic "mom state". Only when it pertains to crappy moms getting the kids and leaving and dad has no say. That is so wrong. ALL states should place children with the most capable parent. Not automatically with mom bc "children need a mother". They need a father, just as much.
And in regards to a child calling a parental figure "mom or dad"...if that parent is completely absent. And the person who is stepping up and in as that figure....if that child is calling that person mommy/daddy on their own. And is comfortable doing so...then what's the problem? If that person is filling that role and fulfilling it, then they earned it. Especially if they adopted the child/ren. How can the bio parent claim disrespect if they've been absent and abandoned their kids.
The law has no right telling a child who they can call mom/dad.

How should you handle that (Not married to the father) he abused me a lot as well in front of the kids and it has affected some of the things they do and my entire family has noticed it but they dont know about the abuse. I’ve been told to put him on child support but i chose not to bc i don’t want drama or to ruin his life in that specific way but its difficult figuring out how to handle it bc i dont wanna be the bad person bc i do want him to be involved but it seems not possible.

I'm honestly shocked that a man can have no rights to a child yet is forced to pay child support solely based on the woman's word that he is the father. If a man is forced to prove paternity on his own dime just to have rights over his child, then the mother should be required to pay for a paternity test if she expects money for child support.
It's like men are constantly the punching bags, and this is very wrong.

Arkansas has a 30 day wait time on a divorce and you can't live with your partner for at least 60 days. and Arkansas also puts the morality clause in the divorce decree
that the parents can't have another in the house hold that they have relations with while the child is in the home and no drugs or alcohol is allowed by you or any company you have in the house hold while the children are there. but as for the divorce we can get the divorce and get remarried the second after. there is no waiting period for that.

In the eye's of the state of Florida...., because I'm a man with a pecker, and a set of ball's.
I was told instantly..., I was unfit to raise my only child.
And because my ex was a woman, with a vagina, and a set of boobs.
She had to be proven unfit.
Without a shadow of a doubt, to have that child taken from her.
In other words..., "she could be the biggest wh**e in the county, or state, and still be a good mother."
That's what the judge related to me in court, word for word.
My daughter is now in her fourty's.
I'm in my mid sixty's, I never remarried, and never had any more children.
Therefore the state of Florida denied me the right to raise my only child, just because I'm a man.
And by the way..., the word "father," is no where in my divorce papers.
The word "mother" is in there, but not "father."
Even though, I am her biological father.
The state of Florida doesn't recognize a "father," in divorce court, other than when it comes to child support.
A "father" has absolutely no rights when it comes to child custody.
    # truth out..........*

      I’m so sorry. That’s very sad... A life-changing terrible experience. 😢
It sounds like the system has come a long way, now, but still has some work to do.

it doesn’t work like that anymore Florida assumes 50% for each parent it’s the other parents job to prove why they deserve more or less custody than the other parent

It doesnt kill anything. Custody timesharing makes no difference to the families it will only make you politicians feel good inside.

I like calling it parenting time not visitation. Visitation sounds hostile.

@@anonymoususer4866 Personally it all sounds like crap to keep my child away. Any parent fighting for there child would feel like that regardless of what you call it. It all still feels the same. Changing what you say doesnt make it feel any different for the parents.

The number of malicious parent or parent alienation by the custodial parent which majority of the time is the mother is outrageous and very sad.
