You mentioned comparing Cinebench and Frybench scores. My rig is an AMD FX-8350 running at 4.0Ghz (stock clocks). 1600Mhz DDR2. Cinebench - 604 Frybench - 5:43 That makes it slightly slower than the i7-3820 at stock. And I appreciate the content creation benches. Most of the reviews I've seen have been gaming-centric - clearly not the target audience for these CPUs.
Nice work on the comparisons, keep it up! =) I get 4.3GHz overclock with my 5960X using Corsair 32GB (4x8GB) DDR4 2400MHz CL14 Dominator Platinum memory. All I can say is that it's awesome for the work I do such as rendering 3D and video as well as gaming where I have 3 Asus GeForce GTX Titan X in a 3-way SLI configuration. My mobo is the Asus X99-Deluxe or course...
Too right on the 'lusting for 5960x but not able to justify the price'. So, in light of that, I just picked up a 5820k. Still trying to decide which Asus mobo to choose. Oh and your t-shirts are too awesome.
Navhkrin As for IT UA-cam channels are concerned, there are far and few women in said field. I applaud her. (subscribed after watching her video on Asus x99-E WS). Now to find a case that will house this monster of a motherboard.
Prodigious Sub Im going for Rampage V because of its sound card, I will get an 7.1 sound system in future dont wanna chance sound card, It would cost more then differance between both motherboards in my country.
Navhkrin I still haven't made up my mind on what motherboard I want/need. Too many to choose from. Seems like the Asus x99-e WS is sold out. Might hold off a few more weeks to see what else gets released.
Love the video, very insightful, it seems the 5960X is a total beast, especially for any kind of video rendering, and I must say you are the most lovely of hosts, lucky lady scoring two 5960x CPU's I bet you did have a nerdgasm, I would have ;)
tnx for the banchmarks. I really need that, now i can sleep tight tonight, i dont need to upgrade mine i7 2600k for now. By a gamer view angle. They are really fast indeed, but still not enaught for consider any upgrade by far. Any SLi bench are coming with this x99, in a good way insanity ? i really hope. Tnx again
Thanks Lauren... very helpful video. I was bit confused abt choosing the cpu for my workstation gaming rig. Seems like Im going with 4790k. Thnx dear. Always keep smiling. Ur smile is gorgeous! :)
TastyPCTV I believe i made a comment on this before lol. And yes you are getting much more confident. It definitely shows. Awesome progress. I have been looking into making my own videos, and am beginning to understand what a massive undertaking it can be. Kudos to you for sticking with it. I don't know if you do this or not, but you may want to right down your narratives. You get so excited (justifiably so. I am definitely no different) that you seem to speed up your speech and start rambling ( i use this word constructively). I often have to rematch parts of your videos to catch what your saying sometimes. Or maybe i'm just dumb and slow lol By the way on the actual topic of the video.. Thanks for the info. You confirmed my suspicions, and i'm picking up a 5820k for my current build. Cant freaking wait!
Finally, the tests I was looking for (content creation on 5960X). THX for the video! P.S. Would really love to see how After Effects behaves on such machine before ripping my guts out to buy one ;)
Wasn't the 8-core i7 announced just yesterday? How did you get one so fast? Also I'm very worried about my FX-8320 back home... it's probably feeling quite sad with those numbers.
Rendering tests - great idea. I would like to see if you can do some renders in mental ray (it's default renderer for autodesk's soft) but if that's not possible, that's fine.
I literally just bought a 4790K like 10 days ago.. I have been beating my self over the head debating if I should have waited fot x99 or not.. It comes down to my budget though.. I only had $700 to spend and needed to get Mobo, cpu, ram and cooler.. I think going with the 4790k was the only way I was going to meet that budget. I upgraded from a i7 950 bloomfield which in synthetic benches shows the 4790k twice as fast in encoding. I mainly game on my rig but I also create youtube videos and the 950 was just taking to long to encode which actually made me stop uploading videos. I'm hoping now with faster encodes to start creating gaming videos again. I use this computer for eveything so I needed a well rounded processor. I think I made the right decision with the 4790k. Very nice video this is actually the first video of hers I've seen I will def subscribe to her channel as I like her attitude and she seems down to earth and not "stuck up" like some of the reviewers get
I don't do as much test benching as I probably should, but may I suggest posting links to the Bench Programs you use in the future. It would save us a bit of time and make getting responses back to you much quicker. I had a difficult time finding Frybench as the first few links were either broken or invested so it took me almost an hour to find it, hence the reason I stopped it after 5ish min or so...
2x 5960Xs and a Firefly t-shirt. Too cool :) What voltage did you OC the 5820K with out of interest? I understand that the 5820K may be speed binned chips so I wasn't expecting it to clock that high... what's your opinion?
couldnt agree more about what you said about sticking to the z97 for gaming and only upgrading to the x99 if needed really, its still such new tech that it hasnt been fully broken yet and will take maybe 6 months or so before you truly start to see their potential especially with the release of the new broadwell cpu is it? which i really look forward to you doing a video on
Amazing, thanks for the comparison .. I was rooting for the 5960x but thinking about the performance gain vs higher value it isn't a sane upgrade. I mean the 5820k oc is almost touching the peformance of the 5960x.
lol im still running my q6600 oc to 3.7 its about equal to a stock i7 920. im probley gonna go for the 5820k and overclock it. been wating to upgrade until ddr4 hit so now is my time. great video love your work
Keep up with the video rendering comparison on Sony Vegas ! It is great for content creators and video editors to choose their suitable CPU. Now I realize why my I5 3570K is so slow on rendering videos. I think upgrading to i7 5820K is awesome for me .
I'm gonna go broke watching your videos! :) And thank you for the X99 board and CPU stats. For gaming box, I will stick with 97 for now. Unless an X99 falls on my lap...
Hi. Thanks again. Cool shirt. Its looks like a The Last Starfighter. You look great on 3/4 sleeves and 1/2 sleeved shirt too- that style's really cool. God bless. Matt. 16:18
Excellent video, informative and lots of nice information. Too bad I have no chance in the world of affording a 5960X right now :C Maybe in the future!
I do photography and video, but for gaming my system is more than enough (4930K+780), but seeing the rendering speed difference, this really makes me want it :P
i7 860 for me, on a P55 chipset MB(!). Did upgrade to SSD & GPU is a GTX 770. Still, runs my preferred games at max settings in 1920 x 1080, so I can't complain. I'll have to upgrade just because oldest components getting close to 5 y.o.!
DrathVader96 I know. That's true. It's rather that I want something new now! This CPU is what, 6 years old! A CPU should not feel up to date this long... When this architecture, Bloomfield, was release I felt it was a huge jump from the previous CPUs. When will the next big jump on the desktop side be? All the focus and development are on the "mobile" side now.
Hi thanks for the video :) have you done benches for 980 gtx SLI on x99 to compare x16 vs x8 performance? I know linus tech tips found no difference and other sites report similar for older mobos. Would be good to see more numbers (rather than just people shouting loudly *stares at that guy about to write shouty comment*) to add to the data :) Also EEEENGLAAAAND lol
Such a high quality review as always! Even better i dont have to stare at a hairy bearded guy to get all my juicy tech news! i know its been said before but Lauren is a tasty pc too!
Would love to see a review on the msi x99 boards. I have my suspicions that the mpower version is better designed. It looks like the only one other then their pro board that doesnt have the first pci slot mashed againsted the dimm slots.
I have to say, I thought she's just the model of the product, then I was like... "no way she's doing the whole review", my learning purpose was ruined hehe, anyway good job! ;P
I ran frybench on my i7 2600k at 4.8ghz and my rend time was 4:17. That is a stable overclock as well. I used it to mine dark coin for a few days back when it was $12 USD. The ram is running at 1600mhz cl7 as well
Awesome video. I was almost going to order the following parts before I checked out your video. I7 4790k Asus maximus vii formula Corsair h100i 16gb gskill 2400 MHz Corsair 750T/900D/CM Cosmos II Samsung evo 840 1TB Corsair AX1200i For GPU, waiting for the GTX 800 launch with more VRAM. Plan to future proof my build for triple 4k gaming setup so would welcome any advise regarding going with z97 platform or x99? I've never built a pc before and have about 5000$ to spend (3000$ now for the pc and 2000$ later on for triple 4k monitors). Only aim is to game on it, no rendering, etc creative work, just gaming on Sundays. Any suggestions?
Good Video Laura.. Your Very lucky to have companies send you those chips for testing :). I think it would have been a better comparison video if you would have used i7-3930k & i7-4930k when doing the comparison between X79 & X99... Can't properly test the difference between Haswell-E 6 Core , DDR4 v.s Ivy Bridge-E , DDR3 when running Quad Cores... You should have done i7-4930k v.s i7-5820k or i7-5930k. Then if you want for the Z97.. Match up the i7-4790k , i7-4770k v.s i7-4820k,i7-3820 , i7-3770k,etc.. oh.... I did some quick benchmark runs on my older Gaming system i7-3770k @ 4.7Ghz = FryBench Time 3 Min 58 Sec i7-3770k @ 4.7Ghz = Cinebench 11.5 = 9.55 ( 2133Mhz Ram ) , When using 2400Mhz , got 9.65 i7-3770k @ 4.7Ghz = Cinebench R15 = 861 Points i7-3770k @ 4.7Ghz = 3DMark FireStrike Extreme Physics Score = 12,749 ( Run 11/9/2013 )... May have better optimizations since that run.. it's old. Look Forward to running my i7-5930K Benchmarks once the parts arrive, and i get her built :) Cheers
I would have liked to see how the 5820k compared to older 6 core cpus and not just the 4820k quad core, but thanks for uploading. There aren't really enough benchmarks out there yet. (Oh and the 4.4 Ghz overclock is pretty typical, I wouldn't call that bad at all, according to what ASUS JJ has been saying.)
From the looks of thing from many reviewers, the 5820k and 5930k are on par with a 4930k when overclocked as Ivy Bridge-E clock higher than Haswell-E. So the only benefit really is the X99 platform with all of it's new features like ddr4 and sata express etc. Not time to upgrade from my 4930K gonna wait for Skylake-E :)
The Asus X99-Deluxe, can run 3 GPU's on a 28 lane CPU at x8/x8/x8, I made a mistake writing x16/x8/x8. Thanks for bringing the issue to my attention. :)
it would be great if you could do a cpu and 4-way sli cooperation comparison between x99 vs x79 or z97.it doesn't really have to be with 4 titan black's,with any gpu just to see how they perform to this new platform
I use Sony Vegas 11 Pro because I edit videos and I sometimes experienced Lagg with my Old Pc build (I have a new one now Gtx 970 2x sli amd fx 8350)My old amd fx 6300 gtx 770 2gb , I watch videos and listen to music while i edit videos , and sometimes sony vegas doesnt respond very fast , ever experienced taht ? I hope it is gone with my new build ( I need to reinstall Sony vegas) Ps . Thanks for the detailed benchmarking video , It is good to see that there are actually people who really care about the benchmarks ,thank you for your time and effort you put into making this video.
UziCrew You guys do know that those speeds are only labeled on the memory kits to show what they were tested on. Those are not the speeds you get if you have no idea on how to go into the BIOS and set them to what they're rated for. And by doing so, you are technically overclocking the memory, even by setting them to their rated speeds. And if overclocking the CPU, could severely effect the speed limit of the memory and you might not even be able to run them at their rated speeds at all.
DDR4 is "slower", but has more "lanes" thus no chokepoints. jayztwocents did a video that tested how this affected rendering, and it was about twice as fast as its equivelent in ddr3.
Yeah for CPU/multithreaded intensive tasks the 5820K is a steal. For gaming though it's really about the same as a 4790K, and while the CPU itself isn't much more expensive the boards and RAM are. Personally I'm still running a 2500K and I think I'm going to wait for Broadwell.
You have two 5960x's and I do not have any..........Hmmmmm........... How can we resolve this situation?? I can help you "hide" them. As always, I enjoy your reviews and honesty.
Now I'm thinking about upgrading from fx8350 to i7 5820k... but I think I'll wait one more generation to see what intel and amd can offer me. I hope more competition
great comparison as always Lauren, you're one of my favorite reviews on youtube:)
Nice video Lauren, lucky girl getting to play with all that hardware, love to have a bash at overclocking them myself.
Nicely done.
You're one of the first to start reviewing the x99 stuff, and you're doing a great job at it.
Thank you. :)
At around 4 minutes lauren experiences a nerdgasm when realizing she has two 5960X's lol. Great Video Btw !
Hehe :P
:D Barnacules Nerdgasm is probably turning green with envy right now :P
TastyPCTV my friend really love your videos but you really need a pop filter if you have one dam your mic is popy
Androctonus1807 He gonna build dual Xeon's. Hahaha....
Hey awesome I just bought the X99 Deluxe and a 5820K with the same RAM, so I'm stoked to see this review! Thanks!
Finally someone who post's Encoding Benchmarks when talking about CPU's. Thanks. Subbed!
Great review Lauren. Certainly appreciate the honesty and transparency in your reviews.
Is that a Firefly shirt? Great job, there are not many benchmarks out right now, this really helps give a clear comparison.
Awesome I subbed because of the rendering test you did 😱😱 not a lot of people do that thx
What a wonderful and comprehensive review. Thank you Lauren.
Thank you, thank you THANK YOU for the rendering tests. Gaming is one thing, but it's nice to see what this hardware can do when pushed a bit.
It's something I wanted to know, so I had to do them! :)
TastyPCTV as someone who spends time in Blender, after effects and premiere it's much appreciated.
Thnx for the hard work you put into these vids!
You mentioned comparing Cinebench and Frybench scores.
My rig is an AMD FX-8350 running at 4.0Ghz (stock clocks). 1600Mhz DDR2.
Cinebench - 604
Frybench - 5:43
That makes it slightly slower than the i7-3820 at stock.
And I appreciate the content creation benches. Most of the reviews I've seen have been gaming-centric - clearly not the target audience for these CPUs.
Love your videos Lauren, keep 'em coming :)
Nice work on the comparisons, keep it up! =)
I get 4.3GHz overclock with my 5960X using Corsair 32GB (4x8GB) DDR4 2400MHz CL14 Dominator Platinum memory.

Too right on the 'lusting for 5960x but not able to justify the price'. So, in light of that, I just picked up a 5820k. Still trying to decide which Asus mobo to choose. Oh and your t-shirts are too awesome.
Lol :P
TastyPCTV I don't need a 4k monitor because I have the ASUS ROG SWIFT PG278Q monitor. G-Sync = awesome! Now I wish they made TV's with G-sync.
TastyPCTV this tshirt isn't just awesome ... it's shiny :)
Liked for proper usage of "too".
*****
i think you don't know what does Gsync do...
Thanks for the review. Am definitely getting a 5820k
thanks for the hard work Lauren
i really like you and your videos, keep them coming and i appreciate all your hard work
Im quite sleepy so someone please tell me if i am really seeing a girl talk about hardware?
A dream come true huh? The best part is, she's accurate with her presentation and very informative. Everything else is icing on the cake :P
Prodigious Sub Yeah i think she is engineer perhaps?

Very informative. Subbed.
I've got the i7-5820K on my buy list for a future rig design, but I'll get the i7-5960X when it comes down in price.
Very happy that i did my upgrade 1 month ago!
My 4790K with msi 97 gaming 7 MOBO is worth it!
PS: like always, great review miss Lauren!
Thanks Lauren... very helpful video. I was bit confused abt choosing the cpu for my workstation gaming rig. Seems like Im going with 4790k. Thnx dear. Always keep smiling. Ur smile is gorgeous! :)
You're so much more confidant now, it really shows
I am getting there! Just slowly.
Thanks for helping me save money on my next editing station build! $1049 for the 5960x vs $389 for the 5820k makes my next purchase a NO BRAINER!
Finally, the tests I was looking for (content creation on 5960X). THX for the video!
P.S. Would really love to see how After Effects behaves on such machine before ripping my guts out to buy one ;)
very good and concise review....better than some short unshaven bloke that keeps repeating him self for an hour

2:42 5820k is 3.3ghz stock, not 3.6ghz
She glows. So nice.
No no no noooo... It was my pleasure to watch... since you showed me the goods which I came to see. :P
Hi. Thanks again. Cool shirt. Its looks like a The Last Starfighter. You look great on 3/4 sleeves and 1/2 sleeved shirt too- that style's really cool. God bless. Matt. 16:18
just a question which hit me while watching your video is, how did you manage to fall into the roll that you have now? (curiosity kicking in :))
Excellent video, informative and lots of nice information. Too bad I have no chance in the world of affording a 5960X right now :C
Maybe in the future!
Thanks for the Vegas test - would it not be better to use the Gpu openCl for faster performance
I do photography and video, but for gaming my system is more than enough (4930K+780), but seeing the rendering speed difference, this really makes me want it :P
I still run on my i7 920. I finally feel its time to upgrade now!
i7 860 for me, on a P55 chipset MB(!). Did upgrade to SSD & GPU is a GTX 770. Still, runs my preferred games at max settings in 1920 x 1080, so I can't complain. I'll have to upgrade just because oldest components getting close to 5 y.o.!
Robin D if your going to upgrade anything then i would say to buy a 1440p g-sync monitor considering you got a 8 thread cpu and a good gpu
Tbh, I don't know abut that. Do you really need more performance? 920 is still awesome.
DrathVader96 I know. That's true. It's rather that I want something new now! This CPU is what, 6 years old! A CPU should not feel up to date this long...

Tobias Påhlsson im still running a 920 and 3-Way 580s, reallly tempted to upgrade as well, but when ever i do, they always announce something new!
got 3m57 on frybench running. Great review keep up the good work :)
i7 4790k @4.4ghz
Kingstone16gb of ddr3 @ 2133

frybench result:

Seriously debating a 5820k now after these results, Thanks Lauren!!
Hi thanks for the video :) have you done benches for 980 gtx SLI on x99 to compare x16 vs x8 performance? I know linus tech tips found no difference and other sites report similar for older mobos. Such a high quality review as always! Even better i dont have to stare at a hairy bearded guy to get all my juicy tech news! i know its been said before but Lauren is a tasty pc too!
With the 4790k was your 4.7 stable? And at what volts were you with that?
Would love to see a review on the msi x99 boards. I have my suspicions that the mpower version is better designed. It looks like the only one other then their pro board that doesnt have the first pci slot mashed againsted the dimm slots.

where do you live? (totally not planning on stealing the 5960x)
Your t-shirt is really cool!
I ran frybench on my i7 2600k at 4.8ghz and my rend time was 4:17. That is a stable overclock as well. I used it to mine dark coin for a few days back when it was $12 USD. The ram is running at 1600mhz cl7 as well
thanks for the review.
Wow! I didnt understand anything. Where are you from?
Awesome video. I was almost going to order the following parts before I checked out your video.
I7 4790k
Asus maximus vii formula
Corsair h100i
16gb gskill 2400 MHz
Corsair 750T/900D/CM Cosmos II
Samsung evo 840 1TB
Corsair AX1200i

@Kael Rampage V. Check out the OC3D review of it. Like with x79, the new Rampage is a league of its own.

i7-3770k @ 4.7Ghz = FryBench Time 3 Min 58 Sec
i7-3770k @ 4.7Ghz = Cinebench 11.5 = 9.55 ( 2133Mhz Ram ) , When using 2400Mhz , got 9.65
i7-3770k @ 4.7Ghz = Cinebench R15 = 861 Points
i7-3770k @ 4.7Ghz = 3DMark FireStrike Extreme Physics Score = 12,749 ( Run 11/9/2013 )... May have better optimizations since that run.. it's old.
Look Forward to running my i7-5930K Benchmarks once the parts arrive, and i get her built :)
Cheers
I did want to be able to test more CPU's, but there was only a select few spare for me to borrow. :)
It's Lauren btw :P
Two questions. What's your name? Are you a Cylon?
Not time to upgrade from my 4930K gonna wait for Skylake-E :)
z77-z79 wasnt worth upgrade is x99 worth the extra £ over z77?
I planned to build a 4k series but im really confused atm :((
Note: 28 lane X99 chip will run PCIE at 16/8/4, not 16/8/8.
Great video!
The Asus X99-Deluxe, can run 3 GPU's on a 28 lane CPU at x8/x8/x8, I made a mistake writing x16/x8/x8. Thanks for bringing the issue to my attention. :)
Hi TastyPC, soo glad I found your channel! New sub, here. Great video, instant fan.
with 3d mark you should have quoted the physics score because that uses the cpu most.
it would be great if you could do a cpu and 4-way sli cooperation comparison between x99 vs x79 or z97.it doesn't really have to be with 4 titan black's,with any gpu just to see how they perform to this new platform
Your accent is great....sounds to close to me tho..
West Midlands?
I use Sony Vegas 11 Pro because I edit videos and I sometimes experienced Lagg with my Old Pc build (I have a new one now Gtx 970 2x sli amd fx 8350)My old amd fx 6300 gtx 770 2gb , I watch videos and listen to music while i edit videos , and sometimes sony vegas doesnt respond very fast , ever experienced taht ? I hope it is gone with my new build ( I need to reinstall Sony vegas)
Ps . Thanks for the detailed benchmarking video , It is good to see that there are actually people who really care about the benchmarks ,thank you for your time and effort you put into making this video.
I don't understand why they lowered the stock frequency if the overclock ceiling is the same. How are the temps?
tested frybench with 5960X 4.7ghz (4.5ghz cache) 3200mhz memory (daily overclock) running time: 1:48.
So would you recommended 5820k or 4790k, 6 cores on the cheap is very enticing. For multipurpose useage, gaming, editing videos and photos etc.
Have you tried to OC the ram? DDR4 speeds are kind of slow comapred with DDR3.
*****
I see. thanks :)
Maybe I pass by but can you say how high did you push the Vcore on the 5820k for the 4,6ghz ?
Deadlegacy - Guides LP Gameplay ♥ für PC, PS4 & MMOs 1.35 I believe she said.
Nice vid, thanks ;)
TastyPCTV what where the voltages for 5960X and 5820K OC?
How the hell did you get 46 on your 5820 I can't even magage 4,3
You should buy that Samyang 35mm for so much awesomeness on screen :D
thanks this helped me out alot
My FryBench ::: (07:24)

Want that 8 core.... It's my birthday next month, must have that 8 core! Give me that 8 core.
Must have that 8 core, don't need but must have!
Nice Firefly shirt
nice username !
Stock 4930K with 4x8GB of Crucial Ballistix Sport 1600MHz:
FryBench: 3:24
CiniBench R15: 1039
can u watercool your motherboard?
Is that a Serenity/Firefly T-Shirt?
Great video! Yeah, that'd be a major bummer if you accidentally lost a 5960X! 😉
Now I'm thinking about upgrading from fx8350 to i7 5820k... but I think I'll wait one more generation to see what intel and amd can offer me. I hope more competition
