There's a lot of interesting things to do for people that play the game really casually mostly for the story and rp, or the hardcore ultimate raiders, but nothing in-between. The new criterion and variant dungeons were supposed to bridge that gap but although the savage version of criterion dungeons is challenging the almost non-existent rewards is a big let down. No new open world like Eureka was a big let down as well. The players and developers really need to learn to take critique more seriously instead of taking it like a personal attack to the game. This is vital to the long-term health of this game which is the common goal for all of us ❤

Those people are only doing that because they're either fueling content to their channel(as this happens everytime an expansion actually ends), or because the critics raised are about the weaknesses the current expansion(Endwalker) specifically has compared to the others(something you won't be able to see unless you were here during at the very least Shadowbringers, the previous expansion). Everyone in the community still knows FFXIV is a good game regardless of those complaints, so don't worry about thinking it's a dead game or something! In fact, it's even better you join us now as you will be able to catch up during the downtime between the current expansion's end and the new one, called Dawntrail, releasing during the Summer of next year!
One thing never mentioned about crafting/gathering is they actually have a story. a story for crafting beyond the tutorial? It's an impressive level of detail.
and great ones! the hw botanist story is really really good! in general those details gone wild to the point you get other dialogues with some gatherer related quests npc´s you met in the mainstory or with dungeon unlock q. this game is storydriven, but damn they took it really to perfection.
Not only the crafting gameplay is way better than most mmos, but it has also a story like you say, Yoshi P can bang me anytime he wants, it's free realestate !
Was about to give up The game, after só many UA-camrs complaining about it. This video made me want to keep playing, im still in Heavensward, now i cant wait to see everything ^^
What has gotten me about most of those videos is that with the amount of time they spent criticizing and complaining, they could have been enjoying another game. Its not that the opinions aren't valid, but oof...
Don't let the influence of content creators get you down. You're still in Heavensward so you have so much more to experience and have fun with before getting to the issues that are more Endwalker specific. Keep at it at your own pace and enjoy the journey.

After years of playing other games and experiencing other communities, I experienced culture shock when I saw how pleasant and mature the FF14 community is overall compared to other communities. There is no other community as positive as this one that I have seen. But for me, Reason #6 is the most important reason to play Final Fantasy 14...Cat Girls >^._.^
For me, it is the female roegadyn. I can't wait to see what the female hrothgar will look like, its kind of what I am saving my fantasia for. I like my female roegadyn but I'm a big fan of cats as well.
Nice change of pace honestly, feel like there's been too much criticism and that can really alienate portions of players who may have some good insight to potentially counter said criticism but are too afraid of giving it out of fear of being labeled a fanboy, shill, defense force member or whatever weird label people like to give others who arent full doom and gloom about the game.

FFXIV has so many features to enjoy for everyone and find their own reason(s) to love this game. The story IS one of the best, every combat, crafting, gathering classes have their own stories with many sad and hilarious/meme moments.(Hildibrand Adventures, Thou Must Live, Die, And Know) The gameplay is so diverse like doing raids (combat), collecting cool mounts/glamours, spending time with friends/strangers, enjoying the music (Shout out to the fellow Bard homies) or just doing mini-games just to name a few. Many players and streamers spent hours or a half day in The Golden Saucer. There are "Bad apples" Yes, not everyone is the same but the majority of the player base is happy to help everyone in need, as seen in many videos/streams. I love watching FFXIV creators even if they stopped playing, they showed the world that FFXIV isn't a microtransaction hell with s*** storytelling and gameplay. I'm genuinely happy the content creators found a new game to enjoy themselves and be "happier" (like Pyro), also making many memorable moments in-game or with the community. After the recent "doomsaying" videos it felt so bad to hear since even though I stopped playing (due to health problems) I left the game with positive memories, would go back again, and 100% recommend to everyone to try it at least for once. Stay happy and healthy!
The reason I enjoy FFXIV is because it's introduction was well layed out and helped me understand the game. New players "Sprouts" are put into a chatroom with mentors and they are their to answer any questions about the game. The story is the best out of all MMOs and the combat is really good. The game is overall the full package. If you want a challenge then you can play difficult duty's (Trials, Dungeons and raids) and choose a harder class to play aswell. Or for those who just wanna get through the story you can stick to that and play easier classes. They really did make this MMO offer something for everyone and form a welcoming community of players where everyone is happy to help you. Oh and the best thing yet. No Pay To Win! Micro-transactions are cosmetics and story skips for old expansions. But these are more for if you create a new character and don't wanna have to redo content again. Skipping stories is not recommended if you haven't done them as you won't know what's happening on the latest expansion. There is nothing in the store that will give player an advantage and you can't buy Xp or non cosmetic items. I tried Wow before FFXIV and it felt more confusing. My only previous experience at this point with MMOs was Oldschool RuneScape and jumping into wow and trying to understand the game just felt to much like a chore so I didn't bother sticking to it for long. And the chrony time wasn't a great design choice imo. I prefer FFXIV where the campaigns are done in order and they add 10 more levels each expansion. Makes more sense then resetting back for each expansion.

Nothing wrong with being critical of course but it feels people forget sometimes all the great content that the game does have just waiting for them to explore. I'll say as someone who recently retired from WoW after 13 years to come into FF14, I left an unfortunate non-active FC and joined an FC that really has changed the way I play this game. I know the stereotypes of the critics who try and generalize the FF14 community by "claiming to bully players who don't like cat girls" etc, etc. But I've never seen such a welcoming community and the last time I'll say I felt a sense of community was way back in WoTLK. FF14 really reinvigorated that community aspect that I feel WoW lost that in WoW was stuck in guilds and not outside guilds. Sure does it suck when you lose your returner flower and lose access to the Novice Network? Yes because it shows just how welcoming and helpful the community is. Plus recently a relative came back to FF14 from WoW so it's really made my experience that much more exciting.
Last month I started playing and was enjoying the heck out of FFXIV, even joined an FC and met some friendly people on Discord. Then… school began and my life is pretty much just school work now 😢

I think what's funny is, looking back on it, the reason I joined the game originally was really dumb. Basically all it took for my friend to convince me to at least try the game, is that I'd be able to get the Fat Chocobo mount once I had paid for the Collection pack. Seeing that fat ball of feathers is what made me the absolute sweat that I am in this game, and I can't thank that bird enough! 🤣
I am a WoW player for almost 20 years, newly in FFXIV about to finish ARR and I think this game really needs better, more responsive combat and less nonsense UI/UX. It also needs a facelift badly. Aura horn textures, Hyur ears visible polygons and that zebra hair effect tilt me so hard. And the world being split into 500 tiny zones also rubs me wrong, after WoW's huge open continents. I hope much of this will be addressed in the next FFXIV expansion. I do like a better story focus, it feels like playing a single player game as far as story goes, which is great. And I also like its social aspect, where it gives the players much more toys and stuff to play with outside combat encounters. This seems to me like a great MMO to spend few next years in to chill without WoW's pressure of trying to keep up with a hamster wheel every patch. My reasons for finally leaving WoW are simply because I'm tired of hamster wheeling upgrades for raids and dungeons every patch and in WoW outside that - there really isn't much to do. FFXIV appealed to me because it actually has stuff to do outside raiding and raiding itself is not as intense and crazy as WoW's one - I'm just too old for that shit and I don't want to feel pressured to do what I don't like anymore for top stats gear.
my reason to start the game was bcs i played wynncraft (an server sided mmorpg in minecraft, actually pretty fun if u like minecraft and if you are kinda burned out from ff14) and i wanted to play a "real" mmorpg and a friend recommended me ff14 lol
What makes FFXIV my favorite MMORPG is the raiding content and the downtime for me to enjoy other games, when there aren't new raids/ultimates or jobs coming that i haven't cleared the raids with.

Thank you for this positive view. I do know that these complaints over the last weeks have a certain truth to them. But for us casuals, especially the non-raiders, it's really tiring. At the end of 6.31 I was tired and paused for 2 weeks. When the crafter/gatherer relics were released I knew I wanted them all. And it reignited the passion. I'm about to finish the last, culinarian, and can't wait for the next and final steps ^^ I really love to collect and craft everything myself, like "I did it all myself" ^^
I love the concept but I think we don't need to take any more digs at Pyro. After all he loves the game too and if Xeno can make amends with him then he can't be that bad.
It wasn't meant to be directly at Pyro, but more like the outrage and situation with the chair in particular and basically some weird parts of the community as a whole
I always play FF14 with each Expansion Launch until i get bored and the i return after all patches have happened. And it will stay this Way until we get something similar like M+ in WoW
I really like the game I tried and tried, I got until 52 with dragoon, but I don't feel it, I feel like the gameplay is not impactful maybe it gets better at higher levels ?
If you mean the combat system, it is mostly the same. At higher levels you still do the same rotations for single target, while just doing the mechanics.
To be fair, in higher end stuff, specially in highrr levels, its far more engaging and busy than lower levels, specially because you gotta optimize your damage. But dont force yourself. If you dont like the game, thats ok. Whats more important is that you have fun and nothing will appeal to everyone
The primary rotation gets stronger and some moves get improved but the main thing is you get extra off global cooldown attack that give you more to throw, DRG is great at building momentum for a barrage of various attacks
If someone is playing a game actively, you have to assume they like at least something of it. Otherwise they would quit. Those doing it for money would be obvious and usually don't say anything bad.

Crafting - was very hyped for it, took a while to get everything to max... but things like Grip Gel or even doing your own crafting combat gear it's a big time waste :D and we didn't got to crafting materia prices and farming it. IMHO it looks like it's better to start with X.0 crafted gear and then return to the game at X.55 and use the scrip gear to then move to Y.0 and repeat. (if you aren't big market crafter). As WoW is viewed by it current and sometimes current -1 expansion the same is with FFXIV and as the expansion is ending (and a less engaging as the previous one) there won't be much rush or excitement now. Sproutbringer was caused by an "external factor" and right now it's not happening again.
I have recently fallen in love with this game. I played it during the hype, loved it, for some reason fell off and now omg im just sucked in hard. Its awesome to be new. I dont even own endwalker(couldnt afford it this christmas) but wow, what a fun game.
Played it for 360 ingame days and did pretty much everything I wanted to. I personally miss Heavensward/Stormblood crafting. I hope they bring something new for the crafters and gatherers again that is actually fun and make you stand out. Macro-ing every craft has to go!
I never use crafting macros so I wouldn't mind that, but I find crafting got much better with the recent changes, at least if you never use macros. Maybe that's it maybe they plan on getting rid of crafting macros in the future so were preparing?
Not the best mmorpg ever but the game is solid enough and quite fun (if you are able to find the right group of people to play with. Otherwise its pretty mid).
As someone that plays this not because it is an MMO but despite it being an MMO.... no... XIV is definitely not on par with solo AAA games. Story is predicable and gameplay-wise is not fun. Gameplay works for an MMO, yes, but if you want to compare it to AAA solo games it falls short. I obviously do not mean graphic-wise. Graphics are the least important factor in a game. I use XIV to talk to people and see weird stuff but as a game... eh.. is just "ok". Not the worst thing I've played.
I have no idea how much you played main story wise but, imo, XIV not only is on par with the solo FF games as it is the best FF story since X. I agree on gameplay though. Not jobs gameplay or bosses but quests...quests are mostly boring...they made an effort in the last 2 expansions and there are a few with very fun gameplay but it's hardly enough
FFXIV is pretty much the best out there right now. Where it falls flat on its face for me is item progression. It feels like a job just grinding for currency to buy gear. Dont get me wrong, I love the game. but I would much prefer random drops. Maybe even some really exceptional items drop from dungeons with extremely low drop rates. Maybe its just me though. Its the only thing holding the game from being my favorite of all time
@Kujra you nailed it with guaranteed. Personally that feels like a participation award to me. I get all the arguments with wasting a whole day not getting the drop you were hoping for. But for me that the draw. You always have a chance to get something good but you also could get nothing. Guaranteed is not a good thing in my book but, Im more of an old school mmorpger. I tend to lean more towards harsher consequences and less forgiving loot tables. I completely understand how that is undesirable to a lot of people, and ffxiv has never been in that realm. Although I think some things could be alternatives to the current system without breaking the game for people who dont want those things.

I think what's funny is, looking back on it, the reason I joined the game originally was really dumb. Basically all it took for my friend to convince me to at least try the game, is that I'd be able to get the Fat Chocobo mount once I had paid for the Collection pack. Seeing that fat ball of feathers is what made me the absolute sweat that I am in this game, and I can't thank that bird enough! 🤣

I am a WoW player for almost 20 years, newly in FFXIV about to finish ARR and I think this game really needs better, more responsive combat and less nonsense UI/UX. It also needs a facelift badly. Aura horn textures, Hyur ears visible polygons and that zebra hair effect tilt me so hard. And the world being split into 500 tiny zones also rubs me wrong, after WoW's huge open continents. I hope much of this will be addressed in the next FFXIV expansion.
I do like a better story focus, it feels like playing a single player game as far as story goes, which is great. And I also like its social aspect, where it gives the players much more toys and stuff to play with outside combat encounters. This seems to me like a great MMO to spend few next years in to chill without WoW's pressure of trying to keep up with a hamster wheel every patch.
My reasons for finally leaving WoW are simply because I'm tired of hamster wheeling upgrades for raids and dungeons every patch and in WoW outside that - there really isn't much to do. FFXIV appealed to me because it actually has stuff to do outside raiding and raiding itself is not as intense and crazy as WoW's one - I'm just too old for that shit and I don't want to feel pressured to do what I don't like anymore for top stats gear.

my reason to start the game was bcs i played wynncraft (an server sided mmorpg in minecraft, actually pretty fun if u like minecraft and if you are kinda burned out from ff14) and i wanted to play a "real" mmorpg and a friend recommended me ff14 lol
What makes FFXIV my favorite MMORPG is the raiding content and the downtime for me to enjoy other games, when there aren't new raids/ultimates or jobs coming that i haven't cleared the raids with.
I havent played XIV since 2.0ish, i cannot wait for it to hit Xbox so I can finally play it again!

I do know that these complaints over the last weeks have a certain truth to them. But for us casuals, especially the non-raiders, it's really tiring.
At the end of 6.31 I was tired and paused for 2 weeks. When the crafter/gatherer relics were released I knew I wanted them all. And it reignited the passion. I'm about to finish the last, culinarian, and can't wait for the next and final steps ^^
I really love to collect and craft everything myself, like "I did it all myself" ^^
I love the concept but I think we don't need to take any more digs at Pyro. After all he loves the game too and if Xeno can make amends with him then he can't be that bad.
It wasn't meant to be directly at Pyro, but more like the outrage and situation with the chair in particular and basically some weird parts of the community as a whole

I always play FF14 with each Expansion Launch until i get bored and the i return after all patches have happened.
And it will stay this Way until we get something similar like M+ in WoW

I really like the game I tried and tried, I got until 52 with dragoon, but I don't feel it, I feel like the gameplay is not impactful maybe it gets better at higher levels ?
If you mean the combat system, it is mostly the same. At higher levels you still do the same rotations for single target, while just doing the mechanics.
To be fair, in higher end stuff, specially in highrr levels, its far more engaging and busy than lower levels, specially because you gotta optimize your damage.
But dont force yourself. If you dont like the game, thats ok. Whats more important is that you have fun and nothing will appeal to everyone
The primary rotation gets stronger and some moves get improved but the main thing is you get extra off global cooldown attack that give you more to throw, DRG is great at building momentum for a barrage of various attacks
Lots of other classes available that you can play on the same character. No need to repeat the story over and over.
I've tried so hard to like this game, i can't get into it for some reason. It must get better but when I start, it just feels boring. :(
Love ff14, but doubt it will win best ongoing game of the year a 3rd time in a row (it should have won 3 years ago for 1st time though.., if not 4)

If someone is playing a game actively, you have to assume they like at least something of it. Otherwise they would quit. Those doing it for money would be obvious and usually don't say anything bad.

If only this game was not story forced i would of played non stop.
Crafting - was very hyped for it, took a while to get everything to max... but things like Grip Gel or even doing your own crafting combat gear it's a big time waste :D and we didn't got to crafting materia prices and farming it. IMHO it looks like it's better to start with X.0 crafted gear and then return to the game at X.55 and use the scrip gear to then move to Y.0 and repeat. (if you aren't big market crafter).
As WoW is viewed by it current and sometimes current -1 expansion the same is with FFXIV and as the expansion is ending (and a less engaging as the previous one) there won't be much rush or excitement now. Sproutbringer was caused by an "external factor" and right now it's not happening again.
I have recently fallen in love with this game. I played it during the hype, loved it, for some reason fell off and now omg im just sucked in hard. Its awesome to be new. I dont even own endwalker(couldnt afford it this christmas) but wow, what a fun game.

Played it for 360 ingame days and did pretty much everything I wanted to. I personally miss Heavensward/Stormblood crafting. I hope they bring something
new for the crafters and gatherers again that is actually fun and make you stand out. Macro-ing every craft has to go!
I never use crafting macros so I wouldn't mind that, but I find crafting got much better with the recent changes, at least if you never use macros. Maybe that's it maybe they plan on getting rid of crafting macros in the future so were preparing?

Not the best mmorpg ever but the game is solid enough and quite fun (if you are able to find the right group of people to play with. Otherwise its pretty mid).

As someone that plays this not because it is an MMO but despite it being an MMO.... no... XIV is definitely not on par with solo AAA games. Story is predicable and gameplay-wise is not fun. Gameplay works for an MMO, yes, but if you want to compare it to AAA solo games it falls short. I obviously do not mean graphic-wise. Graphics are the least important factor in a game. I use XIV to talk to people and see weird stuff but as a game... eh.. is just "ok". Not the worst thing I've played.
I have no idea how much you played main story wise but, imo, XIV not only is on par with the solo FF games as it is the best FF story since X. I agree on gameplay though. Not jobs gameplay or bosses but quests...quests are mostly boring...they made an effort in the last 2 expansions and there are a few with very fun gameplay but it's hardly enough

FFXIV is pretty much the best out there right now. Where it falls flat on its face for me is item progression. It feels like a job just grinding for currency to buy gear. Dont get me wrong, I love the game. but I would much prefer random drops. Maybe even some really exceptional items drop from dungeons with extremely low drop rates. Maybe its just me though. Its the only thing holding the game from being my favorite of all time
What’s the difference from currency farming and rng drops at least with currency it’s guaranteed loot after x time
Yeah the item System is my biggest complaint too...and that CC doesn't offer Team Queue 😭
@Kujra you nailed it with guaranteed. Personally that feels like a participation award to me. I get all the arguments with wasting a whole day not getting the drop you were hoping for. But for me that the draw. You always have a chance to get something good but you also could get nothing. Guaranteed is not a good thing in my book but, Im more of an old school mmorpger. I tend to lean more towards harsher consequences and less forgiving loot tables. I completely understand how that is undesirable to a lot of people, and ffxiv has never been in that realm. Although I think some things could be alternatives to the current system without breaking the game for people who dont want those things.
