  • Shown here on a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee though this should be similar for most vehicles with a tensioner. You will notices a high pitched sqeak that increases with acceleration. Most often this is related to dirt or debris in the bearings which can be cleaned out but if it is also not charging or its been a long standing issue it's best to replace.

    My alt broke yesterday, getting junk yard alt today. For a long while my jeep has had a loud whistle to it. (Mostly on start up) I figured it was a vacuume leak, and still may be, but starting to wonder if it's been my alt this whole time

      Could be, I have a video on helping identify sounds like that in the engine bay. A previous owner got a bunch of mud in the engine bay so my alt. Was grinding but so was my belt tensioner so that video may help as well. Thanks for watching and best of luck

      @@picklesgarage it's the idler pulley making my whistling noise. Never heard one do that. Replaced the alt. Works good. Thanks for the video man!

    What all tools were used.?

      Basic ratchet 3/4 drive set and metric sized wrenches would be all that's needed. A pry bar would help rock out the alternator itself if it's stuck in place but if you have size 10-15 you should be good to go

      It is yes, I used rockauto. It was thru AC Delco. Bosch isn't bad either just slightly more

    What size socket was used for the tensioner

    • @picklesgarage
      @picklesgarage  6 місяців тому

      So to relive the tension you don't need a Socket just a 1/2 drive rachet/breaker bar. There a square hole in the arm it fits in. Sorry for the delay, thanks for watching!

    the 98 is completely different

      @picklesgarage  10 днів тому

      @jaystetser2612 The range is based on the 4.0 engine during those years. Do you have a 4.0 as well? Or is it the 5.2 or 5.9? I'm happy to change the range if for some reason the 4.0 had a different set up that year I just had to go off what I could find as mine is a 2002. If it is different can you describe it?
