A lot of derms seem to prefer the CeraVe resurfacing one.
Thank you for doing this review! I am a beginner to retinol and I just happened to buy the teal CeraVe, so imagine my happiness to hear I made a good educated guess.
I bought the Purple not knowing the difference and am loving it but after seeing this maybe I'll get the blue one next time! Thanks for the review :)
hey , update ?
I just bought the purple one yesterday and then seen this.. so UGH!! Maybe its for the best to start off slow with the weaker one.. For sure I will get the blue one next time
@@rosedolch8637 the purple states it's for wrinkles while the blue targets acne. So maybe that's the reason both products have a different feel and ingredients. It all boils down to the problem the consumer wants to solve.
I find his review helpful (especially in mentioning the different components of both products) but it also misses some crucial points as to their purposes. I also would've liked to hear him talk more about how the product worked for him as opposed to their feel.
I just turned 60 yesterday and I'm looking to start a skincare regime! I will be checking out those products! Thank you ~ 💜 ~
I used Differin gel regularly for months, After two months I seen an incredible change in my acne. Salicylic Acid & Benzoyl Peroxide did nothing for my skin. But by month three of Differin, my skin was very sensitive to fragrance. All of my cleansers & moisturizers were burning & turning my skin red within seconds. That's when I fell in love with the Cerave brand. I was only able to use the Cerave hydrating cleanser paired with either the moisturizing lotion or cream for awhile. I've been off of Differin for awhile now, and decided to try out the resurfacing retinol, I'm only about 3 weeks in and can feel subtle changes in my skin. It feels smoother already, my skin is looking less red, and all around healthier. I'm excited to see what my skin looks like after a couple of months.
Hi i can use retinol if i have active acné?
@@gladysgarcia6430 yes you can
My son suffers from eczema and his skin is very sensitive. It can be also red and blotchy at times. He has started to use CeraVe products including the serum - blue bottle. I have noticed his skin has improved so much and he has even ditched doctor’s prescription.
Accidentally ran into Dr Sugai video clip
And fall in love it’s humble contents .My great thank you to Dr Sugai sharings 👍🥰🙏👏
Love the CeraVe products and use several of them. Recently bought this retinol (blue box) and have had no irritation at all using it nightly. Thanks for the great review!
I definitely like the turquoise version better ! I’ve Gone through so many bottles of it
Wow, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us! I really appreciate your work!
Just started following you on IG and you tube!! Absolutely love your content and thank you for helping us on our skin journeys 👏🏽
So honored to be a part of your skin journey! Thank you for connecting and cheers to more fun 🙏🏼🤙🙌👍
Yeah for my choice Ty for the great information. I knew i was doing something right my complexion is so much better. I started with the purple bottle switched to the green bottle👏🏻👏🏻
I love this doctors that gives as not only genuine information but free as well. If you go to those clinics in Central London you will pay so much for just a consultation. Thanks doctor as I was waiting to hear about the retinol that I have never used so I'm going to purchase mine but going sloooooowwww🥰. Thanks doctor.
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼means a lot to me- thank you!
Never been this early but I'm glad I am!! Been waiting for a comparison of these two products :)
Thank you for watching! Have a nice weekend 🙏🏼🤙
Yessssss I’ve been waiting on this one!
Thank you, Ivy!
Thanks. I’ve been using resurfacing for over a year. I have roseaca and have not had any problems, even in the beginning. I was going to try the other one but my skin can be on the oily side and I hate when products feel sticky. This does not. I love it.
How has it worked for you so far
@@joshdavis2836 I feel like it has kept my skin pretty smooth. Not a lot of peeling or irritation. I’m just starting my second bottle. I think it does take a bit of time to work.
Thank you for this video. Gives me a clear and simple-to-understand information about retinol and retinoid, as I'm only starting to incorporate retinol into my skin care and really was at a loss.
Thanks for this information. This is the exact type of comparison I wanted!
I use quite a few CeraVe products on my normal to dry, mature skin. I've used both of these CeraVe retinol serums. The Resurfacing formula is more effective, in my opinion. I had 2 small patches of dry, rough skin on the perimeter of my face and this formula cleared them up in a couple of weeks. The Skin Renewing formula I've used at night under my nighttime moisturizer. It's okay and feels nice on the skin but I don't think it does much in the way of retinol benefits...again my own opinion. I've also had very good results from Neutrogena's Rapid Wrinkle Repair cream (fragrance-free version). It's more of an all-in-1 product that I don't need to use with another moisturizer. I primarily use it at night.
Thank you for sharing
Any color suitable for dry skin, dark spots and lightening
You can definitely see the difference in how it made your skin look. The renewing retinol made it look matte and the resurfacing gave it more like a glassy more moisturize look. I personally started off with the renewing but definitely going to switch over to the resurfacing since you recommended in another video is better suited for older adults. Your skin is beautiful
Thank you, Angela for your great (and flattering) observation! Hope you like the resurfacing serum and happy holidays 🙏🏼🙏🏼❤️🤙
I am gonna use both
@@danielsugaimdhhhhthhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhyhhhhhhhhhhyhhhhyhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhytyyyyyyyyytyyyyyyyytyyh. V
Can I use the green one in the morning?
Can we use both together? Pls suggest a routine
Thank you so much for making this video. It really helps me out. Much appreciated
After seeing your previous comparison od Retinol creams, I headed down to chemist warehouse (Australia) and chose a Sukin Biomarine facial serum (hydration)because I could not decide which retinol brand to buy. My request to you is please give a talk on sea algae/ marine skin products. I just love the way they feel.
Do you have recommendation for best retinal serum for sensitive skin? Already using Cerave Resurfacing for 1 year and it did a great job but wanted to try more bioavailable Vit A form. Thank you
Thank you for your great videos! Can I use retinol after diamond peel or micro dermabrasion?
I love it when I hear a Dr. say, Your hard earned money! Yes it is hard earned money
I used the resurfacing retinol for a few months and loved it! I saw great results and am now using adapalene 0.1% and am excited to see my results after a few more weeks. Great side by side review!
Great to hear!!👍👍
How have you been doing with the adapalene?
@@joshdavis2836 My skin is tolerating it well. I use it 3 times a week, max. Sometimes less, depending on how my skin is feeling. I'm in the midwest, so it's cold and dry now. I definitely had to work up to using it that often. But my skin is pretty tough and not sensitive to many things. Results wise, I find that I hardly break out now and that my skin looks the best it has in a long time. Visibly smaller pores and a more even complexion, texture wise. Definitely don't forget to reapply sunscreen the day after using it, even though you should be reapplying daily. I do notice that it makes your skin more sensitive to the sun.
@@lisalee2767 Thank you. So glad to hear it has been working for you!
@@lisalee2767 which product are you using? Is it over the counter?
Thank you! Glad to know that coz I’m using the purple one and didn’t even know about the resurfacing.
Great review! Glad I tuned in. I use Roc Retinol products daily. Can I incorporate the CeraVe Resurfacing Serum @ night along with my Roc Retinol Deep Wrinkle Night Cream? Would love to hear your thoughts!
They may have included the chicory root extract merely for texture modification purposes…it is rich in inulin (a gel-forming fiber). Some food manufacturers use it to add a creamy texture to products, so maybe it’s being used that way in skincare too. It has other properties in foods, but not sure if any of those translate to topical applications.
inulin is actually a prebiotic, not used for texture in skincare at all. Inulin dissolves in water to give a liquid texture not gel. It's used in food for the same reason it also has a mild sweet taste so sometimes used in sugar-free bars.
Thank you. Its so hard to know with all the expensive products to buy and then not like it. This really helps sort it out.
Can you please do a review on the No7 advanced retinol1.5 complex. I’ve been using it and it has made my skin look amazing. I wanted to know your thoughts on it.
Thank you! I use the ordinary, but I wanna give these a try
Thank you for sharing this video. BTW, what did you conclude regarding the CeraVe retinol with SPF? I stumbled upon the SPF product yesterday so I am very curious.
Thank you thank youuu for making this video! So glad I got the blue one lol not even going to waste my money trying the purple one!
I have the resurfacing one! My skin purged horribly but i'm starting to see some improvement and I love it😍
Any color suitable for dry skin, dark spots and lightening
I'm breaking out so bad. Do you still use them? Which one? I have both.
@@thevirg77 I did use the whole bottle and it worked (the blue one) it's really good☺️
How long did the purge last for you? I have started using it about 2 weeks ago and the purge is terrible :( Glad you are seeing results now!!
do you use it daily? I purge v terribly with all the OTC retinol products I've ever tried, terribly itchy and blotchy. my skin can't seem to get used to it
would love to see a review on Maelove skincare line!! specifically their vitamin c serum and retinal serum :)
Dr.. thank u so much for the review.. much waited n now I know which one to purchase😄😄😍. Dr, pls review First Aid Beauty products .. such as their Ultra repair cream .. plsss
Thank you I’ll try that blue one “ the winner” as you recommended it!
Hi Doc! Love your videos. Can I still use toner after cleanings (before retinol serum)?
I think the Renewing Retinol is for fine lines and wrinkles and the Resurfacing Retinol is for skin texture and acne marks.
Yes
Big thank you!
@@coreyhollandsworth5245 👏👏Thank you!
Which is stronger? Seems like retinol does all of the above.
@@hruntingson did you watch the video?
Neutrogena has some tinted spf with small amounts of retinol, that beautypedia likes. I wondered about that also.
Thank you Dr Sugai Now will you choose between "Olay Regenerist 24 MAX Retinol" and "CeraVE Resurfacing Retinol" ...which is the better choice for mature skin? I am now using "Adapolene" in the hopes it will help to turn back the clock !!
Adapalene does not have much research evidence at anti aging (collagen synthesis) I was thinking of using Adapalene gel, but then discovered this info. Now looking at Cerave Resurfacing seerum
Love this review and this is exact what I need. Thank you so much for sharing!
I started using the blue one at night (resurfacing) after cleansing and after a blemish spot reducing serum (from Neutrogena) and before moisturizing instead of in the AM, and my skin feels so soft in the morning. I think I was sweating it off during the day so results were mediocre but at night, it has time to do its thang.
Just ran into your UA-cam videos. Thank you so much for being down to earth and showing us what is the best treatments for our skin without so pending a ton of money. Also, thank you for speaking slowly, so that we can all understand what you are explaining, some folks speak so fast in their UA-cam’s. 👍🙂
Me too accidentally ran into Dr Sugai video clip n I fall in love 🥰 with its humble contents. My salute to you Dr Sugai 🥰👍🙏
Exactly...some of these speak like they are running on a motor
Dr, can the blue one be used with Biossance SQUALANE + VITAMIN C DARK SPOT SERUM in the day, and blue retinol by Cerave @ night?
Hello!!! Awesome informational video! Would retinoids help minimize sebaceous filaments? I have them on my nose and nothing helps minimize them! Any suggestions would be appreciated!
Also, what's your opinion of Pixi's Overnight Retinol Oil?
During the winter I like to sludge with healing ointment after I do retinol.
So helpful!! Have both in my Amazon cart and was so confused which one to get! Thank you! ❤ Your skin is gorgeous
So I'm in the unusual category of loving the purple one . Lol
The reason being is that I can't typically use lotions.
My skin does exceptionally well on this with an oat moisturizing mist afterwards and then a priming oil.
It's so soft and no breakouts.
Just use whichever best for u, don’t have to follow what others use 😁 What work for others doesn’t necessarily work for u and vice versa.
Hello! Thank you for the review. I was wondering would this be a cheaper alternative to Drunk Elephant's Retinoid?
Did you make a review on the inkeylist retinol ? Would love to hear your thoughts ❤️
The purple one is $4 more than the resurfacing one at Target right now! I have tried both but I definitely prefer the feel (and price) of the resurfacing retinol.
It's cheaper at CVS. Target has a price-matching policy so, you can show the CVS price to the Target cashier for the purple one ($21.49). The Resurfacing one is $24.49 at Target and $23.99 at CVS. Hope that helps.
Exact video I was hoping to find!
I'm new to Retinol and planning to get CeraVe for the first time. Thanks for the video, I'll go with the resurfacing one! :)
Thank you for explaining the terminology and the differences between each category under the retinoid umbrella term
These comparison vids are so useful for newbie like me. Thank you!
Hi Doc, is it possible the purple “slimy feel” provides more moisture barrier and could be better over a long period if using before bed only, and the other may be better for morning?
I’ve been waiting for this comparison video and your skin looks great Doc! Aloha Hui Ho! 🤙🌈🌴
Mahalo nui!🙏🏼🤙
Aloha Dr Sugai~I have a 15 year old son who is suffering from few acne breakouts and post pigmentation from acne. He is half asian so it takes a long time for them to fade away...would it be ok to start him with the Cerave resurfacing at his age? Mahalo for all your awesome videos!!!
Thank you Dr Sugai for saying ‘only need a pea size’ 😊 I was putting on way too much and my neck was irritated and red. Next day my neck was really dry and wrinkled … ugh 😩 and still irritated.
Hey I alternate day and night between the Cerave hydrating cleaner and the SA cleanser, should I use the SA before retinol at night or the morning after? Thanks
The resurfacing serum has done wonders for my skin. I used to have issues with milia on my cheeks and after consistent use they’re all gone. Also I had problems with bumps all over my forehead and it’s definitely gotten so much better.
Hey what skin tone do you have? The reason I ask is I have a darker skin tone. I have milia and congestion in the eye area? Do you recommend this product and how long did it take to get rid of the milia. I have tried Aha’s and bha’s with no luck.
@@sg2684 I have an olive skin tone. It took half a year of using the resurfacing serum to notice the milia get better, and go away. I had two under my right eye one of them I had for 3 years with no luck of it coming out. 6 months after this serum I noticed it was slightly white on top. I attempted to extract it and it just came out. Before this the Milia wouldn't come out but just stayed right under my skin like a hard little ball. The other small one eventually went away on its own. I at first used it two times a week to see how my skin reacted. As of today I use it every other day or once a week.
Hi may i ask your skin type? Did this product irritate you?
Yes it has gotten rid of my milia. I tried the ROC cream after it and think its too much moisturizer as I notice some tiny milia again so going back on the resurfacing retinol. The ROC also has fragrance and makes my skin itch.
I used to have quite a bit of facial acne, was more of an annoyance than anything. I've been using the resurfacing serum over 1.5 years and I only have a pimple or two from time to time now, basically no acne issues compared to before I started using it. I'm 28 with very oily skin btw
Thank you so much for this video! It is very helpful for me as someone who is about to start retinol :)
So thankful you made this video!!!!
Thank you so much!🙏🏼😊
Thanks Dr Sugai! Would the purple be better for drier skin types?
I really appreciate the genuine review :)
Hi! Can I use alpha arbutin 2% before applying the retinol and then moisturize? Is this something that can be used with a tretinoin cream?
Hi do you have to stick to one product line or can you use different products. Example: AM routine cerave cleanser, then skin assistance vitamin c serum, and supergoop sun screen.
Hi there doctor! Love your review! Unfortunately we don't get these CeraVe products in Europe - what would you recommend as a good alternative to the Resurfacing blue retinol for the reduction of post-acne hyper-pigmentation?
In Europe you guys are blessed with brands like LaRoche Posay which have great retinol products.
Another one that dermatologists rave about is Avène with their A-Oxitive Night Peeling cream (0.1% retinaldehyde which is one step closer to the active form of retinoic acid than the retinols used by CeraVe). The Avène products are definitely more expensive than CeraVe but you really get what you pay for.
Hope this helps!
Awesome! In the market ..& so happy I found your channel!! Thanks so much !!! ✌️👏🙌
I am currently using the Cerave Skin Renewing one. Can I use Zaxs Dark Spot cream underneath, it has the licorice root extract in it. Thankyou.
Can we alternate the use of the resurfacing and the renewing on alternate days? If we do that, can we achieve the results that both kinds promise?
I use the Blue one and after about 3 to 6 months I've noticed a big difference in my skin. Better skin texture and diminished wrinkles. You have to give the Blue time to work. Be patient and see the renewed skin. Works with breakouts as well.
do you use it with another retinol product or just that serum?
Hi i have been using adapalene for about 2 years. The cerave serum combined with adapalene really works. It even reversed some wrinkles. Im very happy with the combination. Very cost effective. Thx

Looks like I'll be trying the resurfacing retinol serum! Thank you, Dr. Sugai. I am fairly new to CaraVe product, but this looks worth a try and not as pricey as Neutrogena or Loreal skin care.🙌👍🏻
Could you compare this one &/or some others you have reviewed to differen 0.1?
Thanks for this. I’ve just finished the purple one and have recently ordered 2 bottles of the blue. Can’t wait!

@@RA82828 There is no need to beat around the bush. Context is important and if you're too "subtle" people don't understand context unless you spell it out. Facts are facts. This whole conversation started based on the context of the first sentence: "Love how straight to the point and clear he is.". Thank you for an excellent clear video! Two questions: 1) Can I use the CeraVe Resurfacing Retinol Serum (blue one) with the CeraVe Skin Renewing Vitamin C Serum in the morning followed by sunscreen of course? 2) Or can I use the CeraVe Resurfacing Retinol Serum (blue one) with tretinoin at night?
Ty for side by side! Interesting to get sensorial feedback...bbuutt...
what about LT Results? ( one aside....what are the scientific statistically significant studies? Are there one' s out there not run by subsidiary's parent co?
Thanks for the review BUT QUESTION, if i bought the renewing retinol already, can i buy the resurfacing one and use it during the day, and the renewing at night? Since the only difference is the glycering and shea butter which will help me keep & lock in moisture during the night? 😵💫 HELP
Hi Dr. Sugai. I am 67 year old Asian. I just started following all of your You Tube videos and I am hooked! I don't like anything sticky on my face and outdoors a lot. I don't use much makeup either. I am so confused. I do love Cerave products. One video I saw of yours recommended the Resurfacing Retinoid Serum and another recommended the Hydrating Hyaluronic Hydrating Acid Serum. I don't have any acne or scars. I do have some hyperpigmentation after spending many years in the sun and surf without sunscreen....yikes, I know😞 But I can't go back and change that , looking forward. Which would you suggest? If I were in the Seattle area, I would make an appointment to see you. Too bad my daughter went to school there, if only I knew. Thank you in advance.
I have stubborn post acne hyperpigmentation, ive been using the blue cerave retinol, its nice and gentle but I need something more potent to really take care of those spots. What product do you recommend?
Go to a dermatologist
Can I ask what product exaclty helped lighten your Hawaiian skin/ sun spots as you mentioned? Also I don’t understand the difference between retionol, tret, and adapalene :(
The skin renewing night cream - different product is far too heavy and leaves my skin really oily.
Would these serums take place of a night cream? I'm so confused with how to create my own skin care routine.
I'm just wondering if the blue retinol serum is ok to use for sensitive skin??
Can both of those work for stretch marks or would I need something stronger for my body (not my face) and if both do work which one would you recommend more for stretch marks?
Do you need to apply the moisturizer before applying the resurfacing retinol serum or after? Also, can I use this serum with tea tree oil moisturizer?
Thank you for the review Dr Sugay.
Love the resurfacing! Would it be too irritating layering the Olay Max retinol moisturizer on top of the cerave resurfacing serum during winter even though both are over the counter at lower concentrations?
I’d like to know as well-tks
Doc If I started to use this cerave surfacing serum is it okay to layer after another serum that I usually apply everyday like beauty of joseon glow serum.
Could you sharing information or you experience about the ingredients or review of retinol of kiehl's, drunk elephant and cerave?
Thanks for considering my request.
Apologize if I request too much.
