I think that she being smarter than medical professionals is far from the truth. However, I appreciated that she used the products before making a video about them. What the skincare industry won’t tell you is that a lot of time the products that skincare specialists, including dermatologists, recommended have never been touched by them before. For example, Cerave is known for having good ingredients (not really anything special, but also not bad for problematic skins and affordable) so dermatologists recommend them a lot. This is due to Cerave sponsoring multiple dermatologists and estheticians so they just recommend Cerave.

@@pattycarljackson The thing is that not all doctors and derms take the time to explain and understand your particular skin needs. They can often rush through their appointments. I've heard many people say their doctors prescribe tretinoin without explaining how to use it.

The blue Resurfacing retinol has a significantly higher price point than the purple Renewing retinol. Also, on the package of the blue retinol it says to only use once a day whereas the purple one says you can use it once or twice a day. This makes me believe that the blue Resurfacing has a higher percentage of retinol.

Tretinoin was hard for my sensitive skin to tolerate, so I purchased the purple CeraVe retinol. I was able to use it nightly with minimal irritation. When I finished up the purple bottle, I purchased the blue one and found the blue one (resurfacing) to be stronger. I think the resurfacing retinol definitely has a higher percentage of retinol. I enjoy both products for my face.

My skin is dry and a bit sensitive, but I also have acne that I really wanted to try a retinol for, and the renewing one made my skin feel moisturized but not suffocated. Every store in my area was sold out so I got the serum. I've been using it twice a day now and love love love it. I've been using it around my eyes even and really noticed a difference in my crows feet, under eye bags and lip lines. I tried to remove a blackhead years ago under my eye and broke capillaries and it left a red bump. Every since I've been using these the bump has gone down, doesn't look as red and it really looks like the little red lines are decreasing as well. I was excited to hear you say using it on the backs of hands and neck, what about the chest? I'm starting to notice cleavage wrinkles 🙄 My chest is super sensitive

@@Kiki-AndBeyondits the sandwich method. Putting a moisturizer first means the retinol will go easier on ur skin since the first moisturizer layer is forming a little barrier. And it helps with the healing as retinoids can start peeling ur skin before it can be amazing so sandwiching can help u work up to only 1 layer of moisturizer or if u have sensitive skin it helps the same way.

Any way, I agree with your pointing out that this seems more like a marketing situation, because any retinol should do everything claimed in both products. It sounds like both are nicely formulated though, and the skin-renewing one is supposed to target more mature customers with dryer skin interested in anti-aging ("new" in "renewing") and the skin-resurfacing one is supposed to appeal to younger customers with hyperpigmentation, oilier skin with enlarged pores, etc.

@@loveyourlife2661 I can't recall the details. I know I used up the bottle without issue. I use CeraVe PM moisturizer and I use an asian sunscreen that contains denatured alcohol (which does not irritate my skin), if that helps any. I had no irritation with the CeraVe retinol.
After I finished the bottle, I decided to have fewer products and did not buy a second bottle. Instead, I have been using my adapalene (which I use on my face) on my neck. I use it when I remember (some times 3 days in a row, sometimes only twice a week....I've been less committed to my neck than I should be). I've had no irritation with that either.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

My derm recommended the blue Resurfacing for me, even though I am very mature. I think she did this because I had just had her extract a closed comedone. I would probably have gone for the purple Renewing otherwise. They do have a Skin Renewing Night Cream as part of the purple series, and I think I am going to use that over the resurfacing for the anti-aging benefits. I really don't want to spring for both, but I probably should.

I use the Cerave facewash, renewing (purple), and the moisturizer. When I used the the purple renewing serum, it would clump up when putting on or once it dried it would flake off until I washed it off. I switched to the resurfacing serum (bluish one) that didn't happen. So I'm not sure why the other clumped up or flaked off (purple), but it wouldn't absorb into my skin. Cheek acne, lines and scars from the cystic acne on my cheeks.

My main confusion comes from the directions on these two bottles. The Renewing (purple) tells you to apply in dots around the face. The Resurfacing (teal) tells you to apply evenly all over.
If the Renewing has more emollient ingredients why wouldn’t the directions be the same or backwards? You’d think the more emollient would be safer to apply all over. I just don’t get why they need two similar retinol serums. Both aren’t super high retinol concentrations and both are basically the same. The resurfacing basically just has shea butter added?

Tonight is first time trying the Resurfacing Retinol Serum. Got off gym, I started with Cetaphil gentle cleanser. Applied Benzoyl Peroxide 2.5% from Acne.org. Allow to rest for 5 min. Wash away with Vanicream Gentle facial cleanser. Shower body. Dry face. Apply the Cerave Resurfacing Retinol Serum. Allow to rest for 5 min. Applied Vanicream Lite Lotion.
I will be trying this product every other day, switching with Paula's Choice BHA Black bottle (or Teal colored CLEAR extra strength; same thing as the black bottle). I do have the Cerave PM, but I'm gonna try not using it as it does give me oily look on the forehead. Will reincorporate it if this new routine i'm on is good. AM is only Cleanse and Moisturize.
