People at the top of any field first learn the rules and then learn how to break them. Even though it's a B-side, Screaming feels like an important song in Band-Maid history. Up until then, they were creating music that was fresh because of the way they were blending genres together, but Screaming was the first glimpse of the path they were going to take - creating something wholly new with songs like Different and Giovanni. I think it's normal to be a bit confused by these songs at first. Sam seemed to love it instantly though!
Exactly. An experiment in writing a more complex, more ambitious song. It feel a little short in some ways (doesn’t always flow seamlessly) but paved the way for future brilliance.
The beginning of songs I don’t ever listen to.
Most of Unseen World doesn’t exist for me.
This is from an online stream during COVID. Much lower budget than a Blu-ray shoot.
Man, Kanami is a blessed genius. She's constantly coming up with these tones, grooves, hooks, sounds, whatever you want to call it. That You think it shouldn't work. And on its own maybe it won't. If anyone else tried it. It wouldn't work. But somehow that adorable Genius makes it work.
Porque sabe muy bien con quien cuenta para hacerlo que funcione , M i s a , Akane, Kobato y Saiki.
@@franciscojavierfernandezmo1974 ????
The song IS called Screaming. The intro makes it clear.
When they played Screaming during the 2023 north American tour everytime it got better and better. I feel like Saiki's vocals got better and more impactful.
Classic BAND-MAID move - put your coolest song on the B-side of a single and tell no one.
I love this crazy combination of surf, punk, thrash, and rock. Reminds me of the Pixies a bit. BAND-MAID are the genre mix-masters.
Pretty sure this is from the streamed live Akyu-Ji 11 Feb DVD 2021- Third song in. I keep forgetting how great all Band-Maid songs are in some way. This one is a killer. As you said, those drum fills towards the end are just mind blowing.
No, I think it's Day of Maid on 5/10. I have the Feb 21 DVD and they don't have these graphics on the screen behind them. They did Screaming both shows, I just don't have Day of Maid to verify.
This was from one of their live online streamed concerts. I "THINK" this was recorded direct from the original stream, as after it streamed it was available for anywhere from a week to a month, and the replays had a little bit of post processing done on the audio to clean up the vocals.
And I saw this performed in Houston and it was a pulse pounding driving sound that hits HARD.
And If I remember right it was performed at Harevutai a Club in Tokyo that they rented for most of their streamed concerts. It is managed by their Record Label and is located in the Ikebukuro area of Tokyo.
Just remember who you're talking talking about kanami tono we call her mincho the genius that gives band maid their order out of chaos because they are the living legends known as band maid
I knew it was gonna be a wild night in Houston earlier this year when they played "Dilemma" and "Screaming" in the first four songs. Dilemma might actually outdo this one on the weirdness scale but I love it.
There's so much I could say about Band-Maid's willingness to experiment outside their base sound. After listening to about, say, 50 songs, one will have a better understanding of the "Maid Rock genre." Here's a list of some of their base sounds to get you a baseline.. and then a list of some experimental songs to illustrate how they don't stay planted inside a box: Rin’ne, Moratorium, Domination, Clang, Dice, Spirit, Turn Me On, Fate, Play, Hide-And-Seek, Secret My Lips, Puzzle, Glory, and Choose Me to name a few.
Here's some that move into other genres that you could consider experimenting outside their base sound starting with powerful, beautifully written slower tunes like Daydreaming, Anemone, Endless Story and Smile... or more punky like Don’t Let Me Down and Screaming… or funky like Bubble… or bluesy rock like The Dragon Cries… or poppy like Start Over… or cultural like the Band-Maiko series.
Bottom line, to hit multi genres like Punky-Hard Rock-Metal-Pop with a touch of funk and grunge -- a number of which can be found within one song - puts them in the experimental (or prog) category. Few bands can do what Band-Maid does if you'll consider the totality of their large, 120+ song catalog. (Note: Written 2019, so there's way more current examples.)
Thx, Chris & Sam!
I'm pretty sure someone captured this from a live stream during COVID. The studio version is still crazy but the discord feels more intentional.
This is from the Online live during COVID. The reason it has limited views is it probably keeps getting taken down.
Looks like it might be one of their online okyu-ji's held during the covid days.
Screaming is the B side of the single Start Over, but it is in my top 5 Band-Maid songs. It is on the World Domination Tour DVD and it sounds amazing.
Keep The Band Maid Train Rolling Boys🤘.
This was one of BandMaid’s covid live stream performances. It is available on DVD, but this one looks like it was recorded from the live stream on their PC.
This video is from a live stream during the corona period (without audience but with some interactions through social media). The weirdness of the song is totally intended..
There's a pretty good live video of this. Search Band-Maid Rockville. From Daytona in May
Agree!! It shows how this song explodes live.
no need to apologise. what's important is that you get to know more and appreciate deeper the work of this five-piece juggernaut. 🤘
I have their catalog, I didn't need any more but I like them so much I bought the 10th Anniversary compilation anyway. I would suggest you guys get your hands on that if you don't want to buy everything like I did because there are 30 songs on the two disc set.
Also the cover art is great 😊
Before I saw Band Maid perform "Screaming" live in Atlanta and then in Minneapolis, it was a high listen on my playlist. After seeing them perform it live, it blew me away. The intensity of the song got everyone in the audience moving. I hope Band Maid produces a much better official live video of the song. It is kick-ass!
Live Screaming in Rockville and Lollapalooza are very cool. Please check!
The intro is what I call “The Batman Song”. This is one of their Online Live gigs during the Pandemic. I believe it’s located in one of the floors of the Record Label which they converted into a concert filming room. It most likely became like a Sound Studio already.
MISA and Akane the rhythm section played together in college and before Band-Maid.
Band Maid ❤
As odd as this song is at times, it’s absolutely a blast live. You hear exactly what I hear with the dissonance; that it sounds as if they’re messing up? When I saw them do this live, my ears were confused, but I watched Kanami and MISA closely. They were totally in sync, so I knew everything was purposeful.
Thanks for another Offset Era reaction to start my day ☕️
Here’s something completely different from them that you ought to get under your belt: “About Us”
It’s a slow jam, however, as musicians I know you have ears for anything. Sam, especially, needs to hear MISA’s tone in this one. (And see her play fingerstyle for a change)
They clearly love performing this song, especially Kanami.
Yeah this was a Raw Covid era live stream and didn't have the production budget of that much of their DVD/Bluray live concerts had.
TBH this song should only be seen in good quality for the first time (or at the Rockville festival) A lot of fans only liked the song after Rockville because of the apparent chaos (IMO)
The sound from the Rockville show is soooooooo good.
Put this towards some new Ernie Ball Prodigy picks
Thx Mike. I mean i haven't even learned how to play guitar yet but i'm glad you have confiden....Ohhh, you mean Offset Era. D'oh!🤦♂️
@rogerchance9074 I knew it was too good to be true :(
This one is a little more obscure - it's the B-side of *"Start Over"* which is a _completely_ different style of song. There was some controversy about "Start Over" because it's jazzier and poppier (except for the Saiki's f-bomb, and the music video isn't loved by everyone). _Some_ fans were worried about their "new direction," and all they had to do was flip it over and listen to the other side.
MISA's birthday was about a month ago, and Akane instagrammed a picture with the caption "It seems that MISA and I are soul mates. (MISA said it came up in her diagnostic results). It's the best of the best when your rhythm partner is your soulmate!"
This is from their streaming show done in Feb 2021...if you want to hear a good acoustic song, go to Nishi Yukii and listen to Smile...I am sure you will like this song also...
It's not the Feb 11, 2021 show, I think it's Day of Maid on May 10, 2021. They did "Screaming" both shows. The Feb.11, 2021 show doesn't have the graphics on the screen behind them like this version. I have the Feb 11 show but not the May 10.
Great googleymoogely!! Now there's a word that is destined to take the place of the mudshark in your mythology!
Since everyone writes their own songs, their own melodies, they can play whatever they want. This song and Givovani are beyond my ability to perceive.
I really enjoy the Band-Maiko version of Screaming too. Miku’s back-up vocals are sick
I always call this the EATON RIFLES intro as The Jam has a similar refrain back in the day. But again this is a typical Maid song. Anyone else could have made three songs out of the ideas in this one song. Band Maid do organised chaos like no other band. I think this is from an on line concert that was released as a DVD/Blu Ray. But others are more expert than me.
Yeah, the video quality is, however, degraded here (it might go without say though.)
Upvote for theJam reference... another band that was really diverse- sounding over their career while still always sounding like themselves, though not as diverse as Band-Maid.
This BAND is aMAIDzing !!!!!
It looked to me like they took the original footage and magnified it
Greeting guyz!! Today, I would LOVE to suggest a brand new song entitled "Dissociation", by the French Canadian Death Metal/Classical project named "Disorientation". This is a lyric video* Thank you for your attention and have a nice day ;)
This was from one of their online Okyuji during the covid time.
I think Screaming gets as close as they get to real punk, 70’s punk….
That opening dissonance was meant to be screaming I think?? The live version on the Shibuku Blu ray is awesome btw
Great reaction per usual. Oh yes organized chaos fits well.
Yes more controlled chaos from BM girls. Misa sneaked in some great chromatic runs too. maybe this was a covid live stream. Which started rough but quickly improved in audio standard. There is a official clip of this somewhere, which the bass is louder. Eaton Rifles melody ( a song The Jam/ Paul Weller) is tacked onto end of chromatic riff. Sounds weird , but for Band Maid chaos girls, perfect. maybe Kanami doesn't even realise.
I like the fan cams of this song from some of the music festivals they played this year…ie. Welcome to Rockville and Pointfest
I have watched that performance so many times. The energy is off the charts
This was from one of their live-streamed concerts which they did during the global COVID lockdowns. So yes, it's live, but it's their own team shooting it. The reason you don't see too much info on the video itself is because Band-Maid is still selling access to these concerts via their Band-Maid Prime membership, meaning this video is kind of stealing from them.
I get what you are saying but I doubt anyone is going to cancel Prime or not join Prime because an interrupted low quality version is available on the Offset Era channel.
@@falconsooner "This video", not referring to this video that Offset Era has uploaded, but "this video" referring to the video that they are watching. I can see how reaction channels are a copyright grey area (the reactor can create a "transformative work" if their comments are insightful enough) but I don't think there's any question about the legality of the video they are watching.
There are no official music or live videos of Screaming. However, almost the entire BAND-MAID discography is available on their official UA-cam page as audio only. (The first album 'Maid in Japan' and the first single 'Ai to Jonetsu no Matador' are not on UA-cam, and there are some 'secret' tracks from special limited edition albums not on UA-cam. Just about everything else is available.)
'Screaming' studio recording is here: ua-cam.com/video/JBgNx7OXtao/v-deo.htmlsi=4AZLzK6Q1kHtpvma
EDIT: Secret tracks from special limited edition VERSIONS of albums. There are no secret albums (that I know of - hmmmm), but sometimes limited edition versions of their albums have bonus tracks not found anywhere else.
There are fancams from their recent US gigs though.
The reason the sound and video is so bad is because this is bootlegged from an official live DVD (Band-Maid Online Okyu-Ji Feb 11th 2021 - 3rd track out of 31). I own a copy and it looks and sounds perfect. In fact it sounds 100% better. Great song too!
If you didn't stream the Yokohama Arena show, first of all you missed an epic concert. Second, sometime next year I imagine they will release a video copy so you should look up a play list and narrow down any songs you haven't heard yet.
I suggest "Rinne" official music video!
🤘🏽LOVEBITES RULES🤘🏽
One of my 10 top 5 Band-Maid songs. Their "B" sides are always grade "A+". This was from their 5-10-21 "Day of Maid" streamed online concert. But is a quite bad rip especially the video but the song is great.
I heard this first time, and found it odd, as opener for the simulcast of the Summer Sonic 2019. Not really a fan of the Psycho Circus Style Metal. And there are better versions of that like 'Different' or 'Black Hole'. I would put this at the bottom of the BAND-MAID discography along with 'The Dragon Cries' and 'Starting Over'. But still, props for the deep dive!
Thank you for your reaction! But you should really use a version with better video and audio...
Maidiacs know there are parts of a funny blindfolded version of Screaming from Band-Maid camp on UA-cam too... 😉
My ears are very happy but my eyes are just hurting. That is one blurry video.
👍👍👍👍
This recording was pirated from a live stream of one of their no audience COVID concerts in 2021, which explains the poor quality.
The drummer?
Just watch what you're doing...hehe..
Sometimes Bandmaid gets to busy , the hooks also get very poppy at times . My only complaints about the maids
Looks like a rip from a pandemic stream. The lack of any audience is the clue.
