The truly amazing thing about Screaming is that it is the mirror image of its A-side, Start Over. Between these two songs on the same album you find the enormous versatility of this band, capable of composing in any of the styles of rock music. For that you have to be able and, even more importantly, to dare. Right now I can't remember any other band with that capacity, just some of the biggest in history.
I keep repeating myself but Saiki is one of the best hard rock singers in a very long time. She is a powerhouse with a very wide range in her voice. She can be soft and sweet or loud and brutal, she can be low pitch or high pitch whenever she want to. She can sing slow or very fast, almost rapping style at times.
Cannot remember a band that, live or on record, communicate a song (even in a language I don't understand) as well as they do. Or a band that can make several parts of a track feel like a chorus and a band that can surprise several times during one track. Listened to all their albums I can find and watched on live and bought DVDs. This is a band that doesn't get stale or old even after constant plays.
Screaming is Kanami's first challenge letter to Akane and to herself, no, perhaps the whole band because of its speed, technicality and the need for total band syncronization. This has been a great challenge for Saiki because she has to carry the whole band being chaotic and speedy while making the song still catchy and melodic (like Different, NO GOD, Giovanni and Black Hole). Especially the part when the whole band stops and Saiki enters with only her vocals then midway Akane suddenly drops in a drum fill to revive the whole band following a delay at the beginning of the final chorus. At first, she had to concentrate and close her eyes to set the timing with her vocal rhythm on before and the point when the drum fill kicks in, if she fails, the song would tumble and be ruined, and so she practiced a lot. Also she puts growls here and there in the live version to amp up the song's aggressive ambiance.
They used Screaming for their blindfold challenge during their band camp week where they basically locked themselves in a 2 story house studio to jam, practice and record in sweats and pajamas! I’ve always felt Screaming was the prequel to Different.😊💪🏻🤘🏻

This is one of my personal favs. Seemingly chaotic and frantic yet so freakin Catchy! Also, the vocals man, The Vocals, Saiki absolutely outdid herself on this one. The live one from 2020 shibuya concert is pretty much my fav Saiki moment till date. As crazy as the rest were going esp. Akane and Kanami, Saiki just stole this show for me, by a mile.
Even as all the others have been upping their musicianship these past years, Saiki's been doing her best to be an even better performer as well. She's very incredible and I have to imagine this song is very hard to sing.
Even though shinkiba studio coast live provided the best sound, line cube Shibuya was something else, with Saiki's improved vocal range and power, and the setlist was unbeatable.
this song is the prelude to the slaughter that will then come, with an impossible Akane and Misa who played all the notes available in the universe, Saiki who shows you that you can live without breathing, it's just a matter of training. I heard this song in concert, and I must say that I am perplexed at the first impact, I was not able to follow it. great reaction as always.
Screaming is the third song of the 2020 Line Cube Shibuya concert ... The first was Rinne, then Blooming ... Could there be a more epic concert start? By the way, after Screaming continues Dilemma !!!!

This song is truly incredible even at the Band-Maid measure of the word. It shows off some of Kanami's love of start-stops and off-timing pauses in her playing. I like the vocal distortion in this song, I think it's meant to give an effect like she's actually screaming the lyrics into a megaphone. I think in that regard my favorite part of the song starts at 4:30 here in the video. Especially at the end when she yells "Screaming now, screaming now, SCREAMING NOW". You feel that shit, you know? And at the end it just goes pure chaos like everyone's lost control.
Ahhhh!! Thank you Ryan, love this song from the Maids, it's great live, seen it in the Shibuya live, fell in love!! lol! Oh, yes the Misa /Akane engine reaches V8 status here as well
You might wanna check "About Us", "Wonderland", "Page", someday for another side of them. The first two on their youtube channel. There is a really good live version of Page on a dvd, not on youtube.
For your own pleasure, please check the reaction video by Mr. B: ua-cam.com/video/XvU8u10BmPw/v-deo.html In this video, MISA, Akane, and Mincho are doing a blindfold challenge of playing Screaming. This video is from their training camp.
I can only assume this song is about their love of ice cream and their epic journey to find some. Their follow up, Freezer, is most likely about how they found some ice cream and guard it from other bands by sleeping next to it. I could be wrong.
Now you got me think what flavor each one is. Misa dark chocolate, chocolate chip. Miku tutti friutti. Akane Banana. And I can figure out Saiki or Kanami.
There was a video or two of them practicing this song blindfolded in the studio for fun. Just bits and pieces, but it was cute. Just Band-Maid being Band-Maid.
Your face after the first line of Saiki's vocals says it all... Yes it's gonna be another banger! The original mix of this song is weird so it wasn't your file. That snare roll is one of that moments you doubt Akane has only 2 arms until you saw her doing it live 😂 Great reaction as always 👍
You should check out “start over” MV, which is totally different side of BAND-MAID, which also lead them to creating Screaming in first place and make it B-Side to “start over”. BTW, when listening to “start over”, listen carefully to the last line of lyrics.
I never cease to be awestruck by their ability to write songs with hooks/catchy choruses, that are so freaking complex in terms of composition and arranging. That's why I can listen to the same song over and over and not get tired of it. That said - I suddenly have the desire for them to write a concept album a la 70's prog. Not sure where that's coming from - other than the fact that I love that stuff (Dark Side, Lamb Lies down, etc.) - I mean, just out of curiosity to see what the girls would come up with. In one of their online shows, the maids did a Floydian intro to Alone (I know, doesn't make sense but they did it.) I'm rambling now - probably to nobody - so I'll stop now.
That Alone intro was soooo good and unexpected. And I too would like to see them at least do some more slow, heavy atmospheric stuff. But wherever they go from here, I'm damn sure following.
I feel like Miku is never given enough credit for how she's able to fit the lyrics into the crazily varying tempos of these songs, and how Saiki is able to sing them.
Screaming is incredible. It was also their fastest song at 215 BPM, before Black Hole came with 220 BPM. Not sure if you have seen it, but when Herman Li had a collaboration with Band-Maid, Kanami asked how fast Dragon Force's fastest song is. Herman replied with 225 PBM and Kanami said she just got a new goal for the next song she will write. Poor Akane.

This song was a non album B side to the Start Over single in 2018. But sounds like it belongs on the Unseen World album 2021. It could qualify as one of their most complicated and fastest arrangements before Black Hole.

Dense than blackhole? You know, I agree with you, except for the speed. Actually many songs from their previous albums are just as dense/complex as unseen world imo. Saiki's voice, while not as impeccable as recorded version, sounds alive and powerful live (less vocal effect). There are many bm songs I didn't like that much initially that ended up being some of my favorites after listening to the live version and screaming is one of them.
I'm a little disappointed that you're not talking about SCREAMING at 2020live, but rather the studio version included in "Start Over". Because, I think this "screaming" is a precedent work that has a common sound arrangement with the songs created in the subsequent "Unseen World". In other words, "Screaming" in the 2020 live version can be seen as a precedent for the sound of "Unseen World" works that we haven't seen yet when they were played "real live". Because it seems to me. To support this, the difference in impression given to us listeners between the live version and the Studio version is large. If you haven't purchased 2020 LIVE (BRU-RAY or dvd), I think the whole picture of BAND-MAID isn't visible to you yet. I'm sorry for my poor English.

mirage is a personal fav
It's not just your file. The mixing on this song is terrible. It's a great song that I hope gets a remastering done someday.
That's good to know, thanks
Yeah, I remember listened several times the first time, "sounds weird" "it's my file?" I hope a remaster too, it's one of my favorites songs
Which album is this from? Must have!
It's off single Start Over released 2018 only two songs Screaming is the second track.
This is supposed to be a B side? A lot of effort in a 3-minute music to be a B side. No way. There is no B side for this Band.
I’m not sure where you got that audio but the live serving is way better than this. You’re missing most of the bass lines. Miss kills on this track.
