Hey, nice bike :D That’s strange about the chain falling off though. Between that and the noise the only thing I could suggest is that the chain may be too long. I’m sure you and plenty of bike techs have checked that already though. My V2 was silent all year and I’ve yet to drop a chain. Not even once. Also on Eagle.
PS: super jealous of that clean handlebar setup!

Yeah, I don't get it either, I have run sram 1x and eagle for the last 5-6 years for thousands of miles (currently a HD5, Ripmo, and Ripley v4) and have never dropped a chain. I also build my own bikes and run a tight chain.

This was actually my first thought as well. My issue turned out to be a worn front chain ring (after installing a new derailleur, sizing the chain down correctly, etc). Took me six months to figure it out LOL

Hi Brian, I also own a ripmo Af which is pretty much the same as yours except the frame material. After one year I switched from a 450 progressive spring at 80 kg to an superdeluxe deluxe air shock. The change made the ripmo more lively and poppy. Still although it felt better I wasn't happy with the performance. So I changed the air can to the MegNeg and it made the bike more capable and it jumps even better. You should give it a go. Cheers from Germany!

Code RSC from XT process: step 1: Man, these brakes take a bit of Squeezing not sold on this. Step 2: wow, so much power and modulation. Love these brakes. Step 3: test ride a bike with XT's, realise how much sharper they are, how much easier to bleed, bin the RSC's😁! On the STFU, are you maybe trying to mount it too far back? Bring them closer to the chain ring and it might have the clearance? The worst slap is closer to the chain ring no? Good luck, silence is golden👍

What I love about the Silverado is that I don't have to think about the seat. I rode my Ripmo AF for awhile and didn't even think about the seat until my friend mentioned he was dropping a lot of money on a new seat. Than I started thinking about mine. The fact I never thought about it before that point and I ride without chambois, tells me all I needed to know about it. Got a commuter bike on the way and that will be getting a Silverado when they get back in stock.

Love the Onyx hubs! As for silence, I love that too, always on the quest. Interestingly, my current bike is the quietest I've ever had - a Turbo Levo SL Ebike. One of the super-lights (40 lb). With the motor off it's utterly silent even after a year of beating the crap out of it. The motor is a bit whiny pedaling up - but well worth it!

Brian. You mentioned your chain guide rubbing in the easiest gear. I had the exact same issue with the exact chain guide you use, and you can shim the chain guide in or out. Had to go to my LBS to get the shims for it. They are ridiculously tiny but will make it so you can center that chain guide perfectly.

I run sram guide RSC, S on my YT capra. They are great while they work brian, but they do have a design fault where the piston inside the brake siezes, inturn no amount of bleeding solves the issue, basically meaning a full lever rebuild. Having said that not everyone's had that issue. In the UK the majority of riders want to opposite noisy hubs INDUSTRY 9s etc, I run a mavic cross a wheelset there not massively loud if I'm honest. The wireless shifter set up looks awesome, apparently component company's are looking at wireless shock and fork adjustments in development aswell so eventually near enough full wireless. Keep shredding dude 🤟👌

Your timing couldn't be better! This week is my 1st anniversary with my V1 ( the blue and orange frame) and absolutely love her!
It's very true what you're saying about the front chainring! I'm surprised you put a 34 tooth upfront! I have a 32 and although it clears and there are no marks, I'm considering running a 30 for added clearance.
What I'd love to see in new tech for MTB are: Casettes! I was reflecting on what percentage of the Cassette I actually use, It's probably 25-30%. I'm aware some people customize their Cassettes but it would be cool if SRAM and Shimano either come out with a system where people can configure them before they buy or make them more customizable? Also, if they use a material that is even more durable, although they are for the most part. This would not only shave some weight, but would probably save companies some $$ in the long run.

  • @willbros1499

Add a strip of 3M mastic tape to your chainstay protector, and then cut squares and double them up, and space them out on top of that Mastic tape to simulate one of the new "ribbed" protectors coming on a lot of new bikes (not sure why Ibis doesn't get onboard?). It's cheap, and took me maybe 45 minutes total, and helped DRAMATICALLY with the chainslap. Or..just purchase one of the pre-made chainstay protectors out there. It really makes a big difference on the Ripmo. I also added a layer of mastic tape on the seatstay above the chain to deaden that as well. GLAD TO HEAR you got away from the Shimano 4 piston brakes, and I'm predicting that alone...is going to eliminate one of the rattles. Those pads on the front....rattle LIKE CRAZY, and it drove me nuts.

The Ripmo V2 is a great bike. I have a similarly built blue one and it's a great bike. Ibis should look at Santa Cruz and Specialized to see what a good chainstay dampener looks like. Both Santa Cruz and Specialized have begun to put well engineered large rubber protectors that virtually eliminate noisy chain slap. As a bonus I'd love it if my Ripmo had in-frame storage like the SWAT compartment of Specialized. BTW, I never drop my chain, but I don't ride as much as you either.
