No wasting time on detailed spec talk as that's info we can get elsewhere. Like you tell us... I want to know how the frame climb, descends, takes hits, corners, etc... Great job.
Nice review! Yes, Ibis make the perfect bike! I just bought the Ripmo V2 and love it. He climbs really well for the category, even in the technique! He is very good at downhill! A little stiff, but it sticks to the ground with great traction! In short, I love the bike with love! The most versatile bike I've ever ridden.
Nice review! I like what they have done to the antelope island trails. Lived in Syracuse 2007- 2013 before moving back to upstate SC. My son and I liked those trails. Freaky ride with jackolopes jumping up in front of you and the lone big Bison standing in the trails from time to time. Not to mention do not get caught out there after sun down. Mosquitoes! Loved Bikers Edge when we were out there. Great shop

Really great videos, super informative and descriptive. I've watched this video and your SB130 vs Hightower vids a few times. Guy in his 40's buying a new mountain bike for the first time in a long time(coming off motor trail/enduro bikes). Between the V2 and a normal SB130. Live in Colorado and this will be my only bike, mostly trails but might even get the occasional road/paved trail use. Do you think the V2 climbs as efficiently as the regular SB130? Would they be comparably efficient riding on flat flowey stuff or even pavement? Thanks for your time. Super hard to get a ride on either bike with the pandemic shortage going on.
Hi Doug! It’s tough to go wrong with either one. If you’re in colorado you’ve got to do the Yeti to blend in. The Sb130 feels really fast - everywhere. The Ripmo feels more playful and plush. I think they’re pretty similar on climbs and flatter stuff.

Excellent review BE! RipMo V2 vs Hightower V2 if had anytime on at HT2 for “all/any trail riding”? I have the HT2 w/160 fork and MegNeg shock and does pretty well on most “All Mt/DH” terrain. I do miss the high speed pop and carry thru trail sensation a bit of HT1, even though the V2 is an all around better bike. The RipMo looks sounds like it might retain that forward, quick accelerating thru any terrain sensation I miss a bit.

What you miss "the high speed pop and carry thru trail sensation" of the HT1, the Ripmo 2 has. The numbers are similar to the v.2 Hightower with a little more travel. Somehow, Santa Cruz lost that fun party feeling the HT1 had or HTLT had. HT2 does climb better and is super plush and feels bottomless, it does very well in any aggressive situation you put it into. But when its not so knarly out there and super flowy it seems sort of blah and disinterested. It just doesn't that poppy playful feeling v.1 had. I would suggest you demo a Ripmo, it will feel like someone unleashed you, like it was dark and now it light. The Ripmo makes riding fun even when climbing. While HT2 climbs well, it doesn't climb as well as the Ripmo but the Megneg will have you feeling how plush your HT2 was. This is speaking interms of a Ripmo 2 on a Fox DPX2. IF you go with a fox X2 or a DVO Topaz, you can adjust suspension much more to feel like you HT2. Ride on Jon...
The Ripmo still rides more like a trail bike. The 150 is Enduro through and through. The 150 climbs better than it should but still not as well as the Ripmo. On the DH the Ripmo feels more plush off the top where the Yeti has a "race" feel thats a little more supportive. If I had to choose one as an enduro race bike I'd go 150. If I had to pick one to ride any kind of trail from easy to hard, I'd pick the Ripmo.

Sizing advice on the internet Is really tough as everyone is different. For the most part I recommend people size up. Most riders will benefit from the added stability of the larger frame vs the increased maneuverability of the smaller frame.

This was an XT build. I'm honestly a pretty big fan of the 36 Performance. It lacks adjustability in the damper but I don't feel that it lacks any performance. I'm not much of a tinkerer so the Performance level is fine for me.
The Ripmo climbs a bit better, but only marginally. They're both really efficient and quick. The Ripmo is a little lighter and I think that will be the biggest difference on the ups. The 130 has a much more firm, supportive suspension feel where the Ripmo is ultra plush and squishy. They're both very versatile bikes that you can ride on a wide variety of terrain.
I just ordered a Rimpo V2. I’m over researching these bikes and now I’m confused and wonder if the Ripley would be a better bike for me. I’m 5’10 185lbs. I want a good climber, weekly bike park(nothing extreme) and long trail rides like in your video. Stay with what I ordered or shot for a Ripley. Thoughts?
If you ride bike park I think you’ll be plenty happy on the Ripmo. It pedals well, does normal trail duty well and it’s a little more rugged for those tougher trails in the bike park.
Hey thanks! No I haven't noticed any. I'm on an XL frame and can't run my dropper all the way slammed though. With steeper seat tubes these days it's increasingly rare to find a bike that rubs the saddle at bottom out.
@Sham Rock, I would say in a short manner. HT2 is going to feel a little more plush in descents that are rocky and technical and the R2 will feel more progressive and not as plush but small bump will feel amazing. I say that based off a R2 with a Fox DPx2 rear shock. If you got one with a Fox X2 or a DVO Topaz, the rear would be able to be tuned to feel like the HT2. In climbing, the HT2 climbs better than the HT1, which is an improvement but it doesn't climb as well as the R2, it just doesn't. If you ever demo them both you'll notice it night and day. The R2 feels like a light party bike that wants to play bmx and be poppy and playful. While the HT2 wants to not be the bmx and doesn't want to attend the party. It's just there to do it all and do it all very good with some bulk. I say that because the HT2 is a much heavier frame than the R2. Top of the line HT2 build in XTR is 29.5 pounds and top of line Ripmo 2 in XTR build is 28 pounds. In most build configurations, there is about a pound difference between both bikes. Hope this helps.

All climbs wear me out faster than I'd like. I used to own an HD4, but it's been a while since I've ridden it. If my memory serves me right, I think the Ripmo climbs better. The seat tube is steeper which helps quite a bit. The bigger wheels hold their momentum better too.
Could you maybe get your hands on a orbea rallon and compare the two? Trying to decide which one is the better option for all-round riding and hitting the parks
I think in terms of DH capability and overall versatility they are very similar. The Ripmo is way more plush and probably a better climber overall. The 130 LR suspension is very firm and supportive. It likes going fast.

But the new Ripmo is a beauty and sounds pretty amazing. Either way will have one of the very best all mountain bikes on the market :).

SB130 is faster. The suspension platform is more supportive. The Ripmo is plusher. If I had to ride a nasty DH, I'd probably pick the 130LR. If I wanted to just go have fun on the bike I'd take the Ripmo.
Occam feels a little quicker and zippier. More like a traditional trail bike. The Ripmo feels a bit bigger and squishier. The Ripmo is more suited to difficult terrain and the Occam would be ideal for flowier and smoother trails.
What size would you recommend..Im 6'1 195 lbs, 34 inseam. I can't decide between Large and XL. Any insight would be appreciated since I can't demo these bikes.
I’m always hesitant to give out size advice as people can vary so much. I’ll say that I’m 6’2” 180 and 34 inseam and I wouldn’t even consider the large.

@@bikersedge As someone between Ibis's sizing, did that feel like the right size or a little too big? Any interest in trying the large? I am 6'2.5" w/ 35" inseam and can only demo the Lrg, which felt a little short but doable and really fun! I am thinking sticking with the Lrg may help climbing and trail maneuverability overall, while not comprising the downs too much with the increased reach... any of your thoughts are greatly appreciated? thx
Tough call. They're both similar in capability both up and down. They feel pretty different on the trail though. The Ripmo is more plush and responds better to small bumps. It feels a bit more agile and responds better to rider input. The 130LR feels fast and firm. It means business. It is very supportive and I wouldn't call it plush. I think it responds better to bigger hits at speed, though.
It depends on your intentions. The extra progressive rear suspension is what makes the biggest difference for me. The Traction Tune is noticeable but i don't think it makes a huge difference between the two bikes. If you want to ride hard the V2 is better. If you want to ride flowy, smoother trails on a plush bike, the V1 is probably better overall.
By the way, the "traction tuned" suspension is only available in the DPx2 shock. It's basically Ibis' light tune on that shock. So it depends on you as a rider. If you are a heavier rider, you might not like that tune because you'll blow through the travel quicker. It's more for people around 190lbs and lower. It makes the bike a little more plush throughout. I would go with a Fox X2 or a DVO topaz. The Topaz should be available on the bikes soon, as they are available on the Ripmo AF.
I’ve only ridden the Ripmo out of that group. Working on getting a Sentinel for review. We don’t carry Pivot so that one won’t happen. Sorry I’m not much help there.
Thats a good question. I think most average, every day riders that stick to mellower terrain could be better off on a shorter travel bike like the Ripley, Tallboy or Optic. But, in defense of the Ripmo and longer travel bikes in general, they ride smoother and give the rider more confidence. I would bet, most of the average riders on a Ripmo would feel like they could ride harder terrain because of the added confidence. Also, the Ripmo is plush, stable and forgiving. For someone lacking bike handling skills, a more forgiving bike can keep them from crashing. Thats a win in my book.

@@mattmiller7650 Thats a tough one. If you want the best climber out of those three its the Ripmo V1, although the other two will out descend it. The V2 and the 130 LR are fairly similar in terms of how capable they are on the descents. The 130 feels firmer and faster while the Ripmo V2 feels more plush and nimble. If you value the climbs that much and you have east coast style, rocky and twisty trails, the Ripmo V1 might be the best option for you followed by the V2 if you want a little more capability on the DH.

They are very different on trail. The Mega is an enduro bike through and through where the Ripmo is much more of a do it all bike. It climbs better than the Mega and is more versatile. Where, if all you want to do is charge hard trails, the Mega is the better option.

Every once in a while I do a trailside exorcism. Pretty standard stuff. Wind will work its way under the windscreen and make the audio sound really bad. Working on a fix.
@@1eskimo10 It was a great fit for me. It felt long and roomy without being too stretched out and cumbersome. It fits a lot like the V1 Ripmo. It would be hard to tell the two apart honestly.

I lived in Syracuse. The island has a 7 mile cause way out to the island. You feel like you are in another world for sure. The island has Bison, antelopes and huge rabbits. Lots of horses on the trails too at times. And did I mention mosquitoes!!!!

Yep. I live near Greenville SC now. We left Syracuse Utah in 2013. I miss riding my road bike on that 7 mile cause way to antelope.

I say that because the HT2 is a much heavier frame than the R2. Top of the line HT2 build in XTR is 29.5 pounds and top of line Ripmo 2 in XTR build is 28 pounds. In most build configurations, there is about a pound difference between both bikes. Hope this helps.

I have the Mojo HD4, how does this compare as far as climbing ability? The chunky climbs in Sedona wear me out faster than I care to admit.
All climbs wear me out faster than I'd like.
I used to own an HD4, but it's been a while since I've ridden it. If my memory serves me right, I think the Ripmo climbs better. The seat tube is steeper which helps quite a bit. The bigger wheels hold their momentum better too.
Could you maybe get your hands on a orbea rallon and compare the two? Trying to decide which one is the better option for all-round riding and hitting the parks

I think in terms of DH capability and overall versatility they are very similar. The Ripmo is way more plush and probably a better climber overall. The 130 LR suspension is very firm and supportive. It likes going fast.

But the new Ripmo is a beauty and sounds pretty amazing. Either way will have one of the very best all mountain bikes on the market :).

Is the ripmo or SB130lr a better descender for sheer plowability. Which one is more plush and composed?
SB130 is faster. The suspension platform is more supportive. The Ripmo is plusher. If I had to ride a nasty DH, I'd probably pick the 130LR. If I wanted to just go have fun on the bike I'd take the Ripmo.

Occam feels a little quicker and zippier. More like a traditional trail bike. The Ripmo feels a bit bigger and squishier. The Ripmo is more suited to difficult terrain and the Occam would be ideal for flowier and smoother trails.

I’m always hesitant to give out size advice as people can vary so much. I’ll say that I’m 6’2” 180 and 34 inseam and I wouldn’t even consider the large.

6'1" 170lbs 34" inseam. XL feels best. Larges are too cramped for me. Geo-wise, i like ~500mm reach with 35-40mm stem.

This vs the yeti Sb130LR ? About to pull the trigger on one of them looking for a little more input.
Tough call. They're both similar in capability both up and down. They feel pretty different on the trail though. The Ripmo is more plush and responds better to small bumps. It feels a bit more agile and responds better to rider input. The 130LR feels fast and firm. It means business. It is very supportive and I wouldn't call it plush. I think it responds better to bigger hits at speed, though.

Is the V1 a better trail bike than the V2 if they both had traction tuned suspension?
It depends on your intentions. The extra progressive rear suspension is what makes the biggest difference for me. The Traction Tune is noticeable but i don't think it makes a huge difference between the two bikes. If you want to ride hard the V2 is better. If you want to ride flowy, smoother trails on a plush bike, the V1 is probably better overall.
By the way, the "traction tuned" suspension is only available in the DPx2 shock. It's basically Ibis' light tune on that shock. So it depends on you as a rider. If you are a heavier rider, you might not like that tune because you'll blow through the travel quicker. It's more for people around 190lbs and lower. It makes the bike a little more plush throughout. I would go with a Fox X2 or a DVO topaz. The Topaz should be available on the bikes soon, as they are available on the Ripmo AF.
Pivot Switchblade, Ibis Ripmo V2, or second gen transition sentinel??
I’ve only ridden the Ripmo out of that group. Working on getting a Sentinel for review. We don’t carry Pivot so that one won’t happen. Sorry I’m not much help there.
here's the greater question: Why does an everyday, average rider need a bike like a Ripmo and can one unlock the potential of that bike?
Thats a good question. I think most average, every day riders that stick to mellower terrain could be better off on a shorter travel bike like the Ripley, Tallboy or Optic. But, in defense of the Ripmo and longer travel bikes in general, they ride smoother and give the rider more confidence. I would bet, most of the average riders on a Ripmo would feel like they could ride harder terrain because of the added confidence. Also, the Ripmo is plush, stable and forgiving. For someone lacking bike handling skills, a more forgiving bike can keep them from crashing. Thats a win in my book.

We are currently working on an All-Mountain bike showdown. For the time being, the Ibis is more playful while the Yeti is all about going fast.

It's hard to go wrong with Minions. I like the DHF.DHR combo. Lately I've been running a DHF on the front and the Dissector rear.

@@mattmiller7650 Thats a tough one. If you want the best climber out of those three its the Ripmo V1, although the other two will out descend it. The V2 and the 130 LR are fairly similar in terms of how capable they are on the descents. The 130 feels firmer and faster while the Ripmo V2 feels more plush and nimble.
If you value the climbs that much and you have east coast style, rocky and twisty trails, the Ripmo V1 might be the best option for you followed by the V2 if you want a little more capability on the DH.

They are very different on trail. The Mega is an enduro bike through and through where the Ripmo is much more of a do it all bike. It climbs better than the Mega and is more versatile. Where, if all you want to do is charge hard trails, the Mega is the better option.

Ibis usually lets you pick your size stem. Average is probably 50mm.

I lived in Syracuse. The island has a 7 mile cause way out to the island. You feel like you are in another world for sure. The island has Bison, antelopes and huge rabbits. Lots of horses on the trails too at times. And did I mention mosquitoes!!!!
