You did a very nice work sir. Many people doesn’t feel the worth of water. In majority of cities the whole rainwater goes to the filthy drainage system , due to concrete jungles the water cannot percolate into ground.
Hats off for taking this kind of initiative, if every house, apartment complex and commercial buildings implement the water harvesting we will not have any water scarcity.
Excellent work done by you.If every home installs a rainwater harvesting and ground water harvesting. There will be no water problems in the areas where there is abundant rainfalls.
Frankly I learnt from others. There is a smart way of 'doing it yourself' in the video here - you can jump to 3:26 min in the video ua-cam.com/video/ecCwohp2DfU/v-deo.html. This could be a good start to get it done in 30 mins for less than 2K
Thank you King - yes, over the years all homes have implemented. We have more than 80% coverage in our area today. I have learnt it takes one person to make that change. Agree to your recommendation - even if one starts and others will follow.
Drinking I am,not sure BUT definately,it can be used for, swabbing, washing, the house?Washing Vassals(kitchen) washing Clothes and watering the Plants? Hats off 👍👍👍👍😊😊😊😊
Oh that's odd. Possible reasons: 1 There are some rains that has that odour in the rain itself. So let the flush out - do not store such 2 The terrace where the rain water is captured is home to birds, cats and rodents during non-rain seasons. So get that cleaned at minimum before season.Ideally one should let the first rain flush out without storing. 3 The sump tank too can contribute to smell due to algae formation within the sump. Get this cleaned every 3 months. Use Potassium permanganate 0.01% if possible. This acts as bactericidal keeping it cleaner and possibly odor free.
The sump has a 6K ltr capacity. My neighbours have implemented with a 3K ltr sump. So capcity is dependent on the number of persons at home. The sump may cost between 30K to 50K based on the capacity, and the piping, fitting and filter can add upto 11K to 15K. The filter is washable/re-usable. The water quality coming out of the filter has not degraded over time.
Agree! I have come short of my responsibility there. The water sump/tank today has a stain-less steel cover. Avoids rusting of the cast-iron lid, that is typically used by contractors
Really it's very good job , nowadays we are facing lack of water problems, harvesting is help u..... even all of them shld follow this water saving method.
agree my friend, each of us need to agree to define the citizenship as 'owning and solving some part of the societies problem, and not contributing to the problem'. I have to thank my neighbours who were among the first to install this in our area. Best wishes to everyone...
Not just rain water, any kind of water, vehicle cleaning water, dish cleaning water, toilet water, a part of drainage water, etc., can be used, harvested daily.
Agree, and very nicely articulated in your comment. The practice we have, and the usage: 1. First rain of the season: Do not capture this, let this wash out the dust and soil from the catchment area (typically the terrace) 2. The collected water in the underground tank (sump) is pumped to a over-head tank. The water in the over-head tank supplies into the bath-room/geyser/sinks in the house. The water inlet into the kitchen is given to an aqua-guard UV light. Water from the UV treated is stored in small SS tank in the kitchen that fairly is filled every morning for kitchen use. It is in use this way for about 9yrs now. All doing well, and we may have kept some money in our pocket left after paying for the water bill.;)
Yes, the filter in the blackbox has to be washed once in a while, also there is a drain vent in the filter to keep the filter free from water and mould formation during non-rain season. If in Bangalore please go to chickpet, but any store that sells hardware will have PVC pipes, and the related valves to operate the water flow. A plumber is a good start, this is not a DYI project
@Abdul Wajeed If you have separate Sump for collecting rain water will be a best choice. We cannot mix bore well water or municipality water with rain water. Tq.
Is it the filter tap that's pouring the filtered water on the floor and then the water on floor is running to rain water harvesting tank? I didn't understand the design!
1. First rain of the season: Do not capture this, let this wash out the dust and soil from the catchment area (typically the terrace) 2. The rain drain pipes from the terrace are all connected into a bigger diameter PCV pipe to bring multiple outlets from the terrace into a single conduit 3. This single conduit is the fed as inlet into the filter (the black thinkg) 4. The outlet from the filter is flowing into the sump (the outlet runs underground before reaching the sump in the video) 5. The little stream running out is a 'excess flow' think of this as the weight that releases the steam in a pressure cooker. 6. Hi, thanks for the video, could you please let me know what kind of filter your using to bypass the train water to sump and if you have contacts please share, planning to do it in my home, since we have sump and wanted to collect it and also rejuvenate bore well as well.
There are better filters today: www.amazon.in/s?k=Rainway-Rainwater-Filter-1500-Catchment&ref=nb_sb_noss The water jet from the filter is a way to regulate the extreme flow into the filter. Think of it as a 'pressure release' in a cooker
How will u divert the excess water after ur tank gets filled up completely. Just out of curiosity what is that ball kinda thing inside the storage. Is it the one which stops the inflow ?
If the tank is filled up; you have had a fantastic yield. Depending on the number of folks in the household, you may have water for upto two weeks. Please pat your back and everyone in the household for such responsibility in water management. But to your question - what happens to water coming in? 1. You can use the 'red lever' on the filter to make the water drain out with the cut-off vaulve built into the filter. 2. You may not be home when it rains so water flows off the lid in the sump. The ball valve is for the corporation supplied water. In case the sump is full it will automatically stop the corporation water coming into the sump.
agree madam, we have to agree to define the citizenship as 'owning and solving some part of the societies problem, and not contributing to the problem'. I have to thank my neighbours who were among the first to install this in our area

This is only collecting rain water and filling sump. But harvesting means you should charge ground water table. When you put concrete at bottom of sump, how you can charge ground water ? For that you need well.
Sure, its a way one wants to interpret the harvest. One way to harvest is by consuming directly by storing, or via bore-well by charging the ground water table. Agree with you, some of the folks in my area have implemented to charge the bore-well rather than consuming directly. Maybe that is a better option as you say.

In my opinion, this should cost you less than 2K. The filter can be ordered online as well here: www.amazon.in/Rainway-Rainwater-Filter-1500-Catchment
1. We drain out the first rain (do not store into the sump) This will clean out the dust and other dirt like leaf etc from the roof, which is your catchment area. 2. This water from the sump is filtered via the Ultra-Violet water purifier before consumption. We are consuming the same water for drinking and cooking! 3. There will be many questions that come when we want to change our existing and accepted system. So take a slow and measured approach - the lady(ies) of the house should be convinced, if not this can be a failed out-come!
The filter (black-box) has a valve operation that does the cut-off. But if it is raining when you are at work, you cannot operate that, and the water overflows from the sump/tank
the black-box is the filter, we use the aqua guard further to be double sure. So far, everyone in the hose have not got anything beyond the normal flu. Varun devara aasheervaada...
Shameless me! Have taken a year and more to respond. Happy to respond here now. Suggestions: 1. Get a plumber to assess, 2. Source the filter from citi-market (bangalore)
The water coming off the filter is like the steam coming off the pressure cooker. If there is in-flow more than what the filter can process, then the water will continue to jet off the overflow.

I had to hire a plumber to get this completed as we re-routed the water-drain pipes from the terrace. This cost us 11K including the water filter (~4K).
There is a very smart way another family have done, and a video is here: ua-cam.com/video/ecCwohp2DfU/v-deo.html (jump to 3:26) They have done it by themselves, and you can start with this. In my opinion, this should cost you less than 2K.
The filter can be ordered online as well here: www.amazon.in/Rainway-Rainwater-Filter-1500-Catchment
Explain how does it work.
Good job, but how to make cutoff when thank is filles
The filter (black-box) has a valve operation that does the cut-off. But if it is raining when you are at work, you cannot operate that, and the water overflows from the sump/tank
What is tank storage capacity ?
A typical monsoon rain will give 8K ltr and more yield. 6K storage should suffice for a week to a household.
@@emailtomachi may i know how much money to build this
@@somasekhararaom I spent 11K including the filter (4K). If you need to dig out a storage (sump), that can jump the cost all the way to 50K!!
Water is not filtered here
the black-box is the filter, we use the aqua guard further to be double sure. So far, everyone in the hose have not got anything beyond the normal flu. Varun devara aasheervaada...
How do I get in touch with you to learn more about the process ??
Shameless me! Have taken a year and more to respond. Happy to respond here now. Suggestions: 1. Get a plumber to assess, 2. Source the filter from citi-market (bangalore)
Thumbs up for you!
While making vdo u have wasted 2.11 minutes of filterrd water sir
The water coming off the filter is like the steam coming off the pressure cooker. If there is in-flow more than what the filter can process, then the water will continue to jet off the overflow.
What is the tank capacity ?
thank u
Great work sir
Where did u buy this
