  • salvete amici!
After two hectic uni terms I have finally returned to UA-cam to talk all things Oxford exams: my personal experience sitting closed book exams after 2 years; dealing with imposter syndrome; Oxford's crazy grind culture; quirky exam traditions (amongst many other things).
I hope that this will give those of you unfamiliar with Oxford an insight into the academic culture here (both the good and the bad), whilst my fellow students can perhaps relate to some of the experiences and complaints I express in this video.
I want to stress that whilst I am aware that this video takes an overall negative tone towards exams at Oxford, much of what I have said I'm sure can be applied to sitting closed book exams at any top Russel Group university, and so I don't want to put off any potential applicants from applying to Oxbridge purely based on my personal experience of exams. Not only are all subject exams different ( I happened to have a notoriously strenuous set to sit in terms of exam time-tabling), but everyone's experiences are different. Furthermore, just because something is hard, that doesn't mean that you should avoid the opportunity to challenge yourself -as long as you work hard and surround yourself with supportive friends, I promise it will be fine!
P.S I have no idea why the ending transition has glitched out but it's too much of a pain to reupload so we're stuck with it I'm afraid

You did amazing just by sitting these exams and posting now that you have the resources to do so. Not like I'm attending it, but Oxford really probably isn't the best of places to take care of yourself and still manage to come out on top and the pressure is always there, too. Just glad you're back! I do love your content!

Thank you, Sabrina! Your honest comments on the exam system of Oxford are very helpful especially because I'm going to study Classics at Oxford this year. I like your suggestion that finding a way to relax is very important. My Latin teacher who did Classics at Oxford as well said that she almost burnt out when preparing for mods and studying at midnight. However, she didn't get the grade she wanted and changed her study habits. She only allowed herself to study for the course from 9am to 5pm from Mondays to Fridays (very much like working in an office) and used the rest of the time to do clubs, sports, music, or just hang out with friends in London. She found that method very efficient and earned a first in greats. So maybe try to relax a little bit, and there might be some surprises :)

Thanks for watching! I definitely agree with your Classic teacher about the benefits of a better work life balance- going to try and work on that for Greats!

Why have you changed your ACCENT to sound posh compared to your first video 2 years ago? Your first video 2 years ago felt honest and lovely. You said you went to a state school and got into to study classics. Your accent in that video was nothing like you have started to speak now. Sad that you feel the need to talk a certain way now that you are at Oxford! Come on be original, there is nothing worse than someone trying to pretend to be someone else. And besides if you are looking for your UA-cam channel to take on,then be yourself and that’s what will make you relatable
