Thank you so much!! I never had opportunities to learn classics at school before a-level, so the only thing I could do was reading primary texts like the Homeric epic and Plato's Dialogues. It was not very intimidating because I think reading secondary texts can actually be harder but some require some background knowledge. However, thank you a lot for your recommendations on ancient history. By the way, I highly recommend a Coursera course called 'Greek and Roman Mythology' which was very helpful!

'The Silence of the Girls' by Pat Barker is skillfully written and contains phrases and ideas that stay with me, but while not gory does imagine a lot of cruelties I would say not for very sensitive readers, nor for those who want to retain a romantic view of Achilles.
Talk about the holy grail of classics! You have covered so much material in this video, it is absolutely brilliant! I will see you all in 6 - 8 months…😄 Gratias Sabrina!
Would recommend some books that are free on Google Books as well, starting with the Alexander Pope "translation" of The Iliad and the John Dryden "translation" of The Aeneid. Would also recommend Edward Gibbon's The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire. While it is somewhat dated and biased, every book about the Roman Empire is basically a reaction for or against Gibbon's ideas.
