This week's video will be focusing on trying to give those of you applying to Oxbridge (especially Oxford) insight and helpful advice for the dreaded Classics entrance test, which you will be sitting in just over a week! Although I mainly focus on the Latin CAT in this video, hopefully a lot of what I discuss can also be applied for the Greek CAT; for those of you applying for Course II, I will link Viola Helen's more relevant video down below!

I'll preface this by saying I got in for Classics 1B (I studied Latin not Greek as well) and took the approach of doing dozens and dozens of translations rather than trying to learn masses of vocab and grammar. I did them all in exam conditions and thus got very good at making up for lack of vocab by using the context of the sentences. I looked things up at the end and thus learned vocab through that anyway.

There's nothing wrong with starting to think about the idea of universities at a younger age, but PLEASE don't stress yourself out because you only really need to start focusing on applications in Year 12. Enjoy your time at school first!

Dear Sabrina, can you make a video about your experiences with UCAS applications and Personal Statements. Also, can you please make a video about what you did to boost your application. Thank you.

Hey, I was wondering, should I use a solemn language and tone when translating tragic poetry? Until now I have exercised to use archaisms like "thou" "art" "dost" and so on... if it's not required, is it a problem if I use them?

Hi! So I don't think that it is necessary to use archaisms (I certainly didn't), but it doesn't matter if you do, as long as the translation is accurate and you don't confuse yourself. Using a certain tone and the type of language for translation are things to worry about more when you get to university, so just translate in the way you feel most confident(either with or without archaisms)! :)

Is a CAT exam necessary when applying to Cambridge University?

Cambridge also makes applicants sit a similar type of admissions test, but I would check the Cambridge website for more specific information.
