Very cool! Nice to see a new Byzantine leader, despite how much I like Theodora. The playstyle certainly seems interesting, but I can't help but feel this is what Spain was intended to be, with the combination of religion and warfare. Ah well, it just goes to show some of the older civs really need a bit of a revisit.
Oh, this magnificent choir on the background! I am curious what will Gauls have as their theme. Anyway, it will be my pleasure to make a piano arrangement for both themes
My ideas for the Civilization team are the following: 1- To add a “choose your Leader" option, in which the development team are capable of making a Leaders package in which each nation is granted a series of leaders you can pick from not to be identified just by a default historical character, but to be able to choose from other historical leaders that may be distributed by that package. Each leader would grant an specific boost alongside new units or buildings to help balancing the experience. I'll give you an example: If you choose Germany before starting a whole match, you can choose between Otto Von Birsmarck, Frederick Barbarossa or Kaiser Wilhem II If you choose Rome as faction you could pick from Julius Caesar, Augustus (Octavius) or even Marcus Aurelius. If you choose Spain you can choose between Charles First of Spain also known as Charles V (Carlos V), The Cid (Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar), Felipe II and the Catholic Kings like Isabel. 2- The Development team of Civilization VI could add a new DLC or package to create a Good vs Evil mode in which certain nations would be able to developt their own culture and religious institutions in order to be ready to fight other nations that would be guided by the secret cults such as the Hermetic Brotherhood, or occultist/esoteric factions. For an example, you could developt a Roman Catholic Empire, agaisnt a Hermetic or Mythras cultist nation and in the end a group of factions from one side or another would fight either to save the world and restore peace, or to doom it and destroy it. 3- Please development team, consider the following new factions for your next New Frontiers DLC package. a) Kingdom of Jerusalem, with crusader leaders and crusading kings b) Kingdom of Romanía with Vlad Tepes as its leader c) Kingdom of Franks or Carolingian Empire with Charlemagne as its leader d) Kingdom of Hungary with Sigismund of Luxembourg e) The Ottomam Empire with Suleiman the Magnificent f) The Freemasorny Confederation, a faction that would try to conquer the world with the use of agents and spies. g) The Roman Catholic Church with the Vatican as its main City and with the quest to comquer the world by spreading the faith.

@@dango6266 So, take me back to Constantinople No, you can't go back to Constantinople Been a long time gone, Constantinople Why did Constantinople get the works? That's nobody's business but the Turks
If you're adding Basil II, then add the Bulgarians. Not just a player can earn him his nickname (it'd be cool that when a Byzantine player destroys a Bulgarian player, the nickname is permanently added to Basil II's name), but also because the Bulgarians were one of the major balkan civilizations.
Interesting I thought it was going to be Theodora or Irene, they were really cool. Well, I do hope we see Portugal or Austria. You know I would like to see Maria or another leader from Civ VI with the same voice actor, Dido brought back good memories.
But what's interesting is that his special ability makes it easier to conquer civs that are already following Byzantium's religion. This is actually very historically accurate as Basil II's conquests to expand the Eastern Roman Empire were mostly conquering other Eastern Orthodox realms like Bulgaria, Serbia, etc.
its actually stupid that basil is white while tamar and suleiman are really dark in the game. but in reality, they were most likely the same in terms of looks. devs probably looked at things from cultural barrier. even in that case, byzantines were very oriental and unique. constantinople steam achievement also shows the illiteracy. turks used the same name for another 450+ years. stimpol/istanbul is another greek word which was used by all citizens naturally in 19th century similarly how people dropped latin. official name changed from constantinople in 20th century based on that and only to put distance from ottomans by the republic. changing the cities name has nothing to do with ottomans.
Now we just need a game mode where you can only build your unique unit in a tree, but they get stronger when reaching the next tier of unit. Example, montezuma always has their eagle warriors as their melee class, but again combat strength when you "upgrade" them to swordsman, and so on. You still can make archers, a navy, etc, but your melee tree is always going to be eagle warriors that get steadily stronger, as though they were upgrading.
Holy.....Yeah this civ sounds really strong. Extra great prophet points from Holy Sites = Easier time founding religion and extra faith after Great Prophet is recruited. +3 combat and religious strength for EACH holy converted and religious pressure for beating enemy units in combat means easier religion spread AND up to +15 combat/religious strength to all units! Two unique units, both of which look strong in their own right. I’m particularly intrigued by the unique Quadrireme because that units usual weakness is it only has 1 range. Giving it 2 range is huuuuge. Capturing coastal cities will be super easy with these. Light and Heavy Cavalry units do full damage to converted cities. This class of units is actually really good in warfare again (for Byzantium at least). Finally, the Hippodrome gives a free unit for being built AND every building being built.....this is crazy. Once you get to mid game and later. This Civ sounds.....crazy good.

I still think I see a combination of John Curtin 0:16 (arm pose) with Tomyris 0:03 (head raise) in his animations
@@sweetbrown89 Yeah, I did notice that the animations were a bit more original than earlier in the New Frontiers pack, but I'm talking about the models compared to game launch, like Peter of Russia. Compared to other leaders, especially newer ones, Peter looks weirdly lumpy. I think the art team got more comfortable with the design of the game, and that shows with leaders like Kupe.
James A Clouder those just need touch ups, as their animations are at least unique

Very appropriate that you post a Bulgarian Civ on the video announcing Basil the Bulgar Slayer
@@Tytoalba777 Romanslayer, to be exact. He gave himself that title when he invaded the Latin Empire as a way to avenge his people's humiliation at the hands of Basil II. Oh boy...
@@Tytoalba777 If this were an available Civ, how would you play it?
@Gaymar Gaylord Gay Not exactly independent, though.
@@williamtheconqueror7807 Your Bulgaria seems to be suited more towards a Cultural or Science victory, with Domination being used as fuel for those victories. Keep an eye out for those militaristic leaders like Alexander or Gorgo, for they will be a good source of science when you conquer one of their cities.
Theodora wasn’t an singular Byzantine ruler she was more of a advisor, her husband was the sole ruler…
She ruled in her husband's stead while he was sick with the plague@@georgefloydsfake20dollarbi28

I am curious what will Gauls have as their theme.
Anyway, it will be my pleasure to make a piano arrangement for both themes
Look at that amazing hair!
And all his teeth.
Going to love Byzantium with Cruzaders Belief
Do you guys notice that Greece is now represented by three civs and four leaders?
The guy has a great design BTW.
5 Leaders if you count Cleopatra
Which is hilarious to be frank
How long did it take to rehearse how to pronunce "Porphyrogénnētos" at 1:20?
My ideas for the Civilization team are the following:
1- To add a “choose your Leader" option, in which the development team are capable of making a Leaders package in which each nation is granted a series of leaders you can pick from not to be identified just by a default historical character, but to be able to choose from other historical leaders that may be distributed by that package.
Each leader would grant an specific boost alongside new units or buildings to help balancing the experience.
I'll give you an example:
If you choose Germany before starting a whole match, you can choose between Otto Von Birsmarck, Frederick Barbarossa or Kaiser Wilhem II
If you choose Rome as faction you could pick from Julius Caesar, Augustus (Octavius) or even Marcus Aurelius.
3- Please development team, consider the following new factions for your next New Frontiers DLC package.
a) Kingdom of Jerusalem, with crusader leaders and crusading kings
b) Kingdom of Romanía with Vlad Tepes as its leader
c) Kingdom of Franks or Carolingian Empire with Charlemagne as its leader
d) Kingdom of Hungary with Sigismund of Luxembourg
e) The Ottomam Empire with Suleiman the Magnificent
f) The Freemasorny Confederation, a faction that would try to conquer the world with the use of agents and spies.
g) The Roman Catholic Church with the Vatican as its main City and with the quest to comquer the world by spreading the faith.
Wait, aren't ottomans already in the game? I thought they were added in Gathering Storm.
“You can’t go back to Constantinople” - Too soon Firaxis, too soon....
It's been 547 years.
Can someone explain the joke to me
@@mikecharnecke3087 it's a lyric from a song that talks about how Istanbul and Constantinople are the same city and how the name was changed. In the modern era there are quite a few Byzantopliles (people who love learning about and thinking about the civilization) and the fact that it was conquered and the name was changed makes them sad.

So, take me back to Constantinople
No, you can't go back to Constantinople
Been a long time gone, Constantinople
Why did Constantinople get the works?
That's nobody's business but the Turks
@@dango6266 lol
If you're adding Basil II, then add the Bulgarians. Not just a player can earn him his nickname (it'd be cool that when a Byzantine player destroys a Bulgarian player, the nickname is permanently added to Basil II's name), but also because the Bulgarians were one of the major balkan civilizations.
It's amazing that firaxis listens to their fans! Keep up the great work!
Wow the devs really love the II leaders
They honestly like the “_____ the Greats” because that’s kinda how history remembers them
How come she spells "porphyrogennetos" flawlessly, but keeps saying Byzantium in a weird way?
“Y” in English is an “ee” in Greek I think
That is how it is said.
Димитър Иванов shouldn’t she stress the A?
No
Maybe a little bit more then she does but not much
This looks great! Getting my Dad Civ 6 for his 58th birthday since hes retired now and got back into Civ 3.
This looks great. He like Poland, but 10 times better. Sorry, Jadwiga, I'm simping for Basil now.
Oh shit. I was really hoping Byzantium with Basil II was coming and here it is.
Too much epic civs in this year, Mayas, Gran Colombia with Simón Bolívar and and now the Bizantium of Basil II :D!!!!
As a Greek i'm glad for this.
Basil II the Bulgar Slayer!
Appreciate the TMBG callout =)
Appreciate the TMBG reference at 2:00
i like how the pronunciation is always different
Really hoped to see the Theodosian Walls as the unique building but the Hippodrome is pretty cool too!
The music sounds great, it’s like each new civilization’s theme is better than the previous one
Interesting I thought it was going to be Theodora or Irene, they were really cool. Well, I do hope we see Portugal or Austria. You know I would like to see Maria or another leader from Civ VI with the same voice actor, Dido brought back good memories.
that Orthodox chant-off with Georgia that we've been waiting for.
The hymn in the background made me cry. As a Greek we grow up listening to those hymns.
Finally this is the civ I'm most excited for from the pack
Wanna learn something?
The background song is called τη υπερμάχω στρατηγώ τα νηκητήρια
I would really like to see more religious symbols on newer updates
the background music for this civ is so good!
Oh his play style screams “Crusader”
But what's interesting is that his special ability makes it easier to conquer civs that are already following Byzantium's religion. This is actually very historically accurate as Basil II's conquests to expand the Eastern Roman Empire were mostly conquering other Eastern Orthodox realms like Bulgaria, Serbia, etc.
Y'all need to release the music as a single and guaranteed y'all gonna get a Grammy Award
Suleiman’s reign is officially over!
Uh...is anyone going to tell him...?
Let him have this one 🤫🙊
@@sweetbrown89 Let them dream
Nice dream :)
Suleiman is finished 😂😂😂
Finally! Hope to see another leader with varagian guards
Cool. Rome got an alternate leader LOL you're a real one if you got that
Basil is a good choice! Was obviously expecting Justinian or Theodora. Can't wait to try Byzantium out!
its actually stupid that basil is white while tamar and suleiman are really dark in the game. but in reality, they were most likely the same in terms of looks. devs probably looked at things from cultural barrier. even in that case, byzantines were very oriental and unique.
constantinople steam achievement also shows the illiteracy. turks used the same name for another 450+ years. stimpol/istanbul is another greek word which was used by all citizens naturally in 19th century similarly how people dropped latin. official name changed from constantinople in 20th century based on that and only to put distance from ottomans by the republic. changing the cities name has nothing to do with ottomans.
I can't wait to play Byzantium. You guys are doing a great job for Civ VI. Nice work!
When you get the notification after you watched the video . . .
I broke a plate full of hot pizza when I saw the notification, I proceeded to watch this instead of cleaning
Would be nice if we got Tsar Dusan the mighty of Serbia.
Nice They Might Be Giants reference at the end there xD

That new district is stunning!!! Thank you
Seems Jadwiga is still top waifu, guess we can hope for the next pack for potential new one.
....Wait a minute, this is Poland's strat on crack
King Jadwiga is displeased
"You cant go back to Constantinople"
