Love the science focus , just don’t feel comfortable with the 15% yield penalty, maybe tone it down or increase the tile range. Just seems like a punishment for building a medium-large empire.
No it isn't. It's the exact opposite. Clumping cities together is the very opposite of what it means to play tall because you limit the potential of each city by reducing maximum workable tiles. Plus the reduction in available tiles for each city also removes space required for building neighbourhoods and the like. To the one who enjoys seeing maximal yields, clumped cities are the ugliest things in Civ 6.
@@theinternetshavecome1640 They may be fairly tall is true but it is not true that this is a Civ designed to play "Tall" and anyone who likes to see huge populations and godly yields is not going to see more of such in this Civ.
@@Azurewroth are you telling me you put your cities more than 6 tiles away in a tall game? 6 is my limit, and i thought of it as being a good distance to aim for. i suppose 7 tiles would be better for optimum overlap of tiles.
@@Azurewroth But cities can only naturally work tiles that are three tiles away from the city center (total of 36 hexes). Beyond that, the only beneficial tiles would be luxuries or strategic resources. By settling another city within six tiles, you would only be, at most, losing one line of tiles, which isn't that much of a loss considering the other city picks it up to work it (really, the only tile "lost" is the city center tile for the second city). Even if that limit didn't exist, when it comes to working the tiles, it's hard to imagine building a city that makes use of all of a city's hexes if it expands to max. It's still not a conventionally tall Civ, but it might be a redefinition of what Tall means in Civ 6, which we definitely needed.

McJive On the CivFanatics forum, where Firaxis look for ideas and feedback often, nearly everyone expected her. I’m glad they’re avoiding repeating the same leaders.
It seems that it's geared towards a tall play style. Few cities close to each other. The housing from farms will provide a lot of population capacity on them. Also, I remember some policies that benefits cities with governors, that would help too as a tall empire should have all its cities with a governor placed on them. Remember that some buildings provide yields to nearby cities like the one you build in the industrial zone or in the entertainment district. Also, not being able to get housing from rivers will let to choose a better place for a new city without having to worry about fresh water. About the yield loss maybe you are right, it seems to be too much. New content can be a bit unbalanced at the start.
Exactly! How come a civilization that is supposed to go tall be limited to such a small portion of the map? Tall cities need to be placed somewhat far from each other so they get as many titles as possible, specially with those farms on steroids
Sid Meier! Or Sid Meier's Civilization channel! Keeping it in the Americas, could we get *Moche* ? It would be great to have a Native American civ with a desert start bias and that focuses on naval trade and faith through conquest (I think few people would associate naval trade or desert with Native Americans... unless you always got a desert start with Pacal back on Civ V...). Also, have you seen how Moche warriors looked like? Their UUs would be awesome! Lord of Sipan as leader? Not complaining if you don't though, *Cree* , *Mapuche* and *Gran Colombia* are great additions to the game. Other civs from the Americas that would be great are *The Navajo* and *La Plata* . *The Navajo* had a great expansion through North America, maybe they could be like *The Shoshone* for Civ VI. *La Plata* under San Martín are equal in importance to *Gran Colombia* here in South America as they too helped on the liberation of Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Chile and Perú from Spain. San Martín and *La Plata* often get overshadowed by Bolivar and *Gran Colombia* but they are just as good. Maybe an alternate leader for *The Inca* ? Focus on conquest and overseas exploration as Tupac Yupanqui? Focus on defence and modernising as Tupac Amaru I (last Inca)? Or maybe a weird freedom fighter and trader approach as Tupac Amaru II (technically not an Inca ruler, but descendant of them and an insurrectionist)? Just ideas :)
So, is their new campus actually any better? It looks like they no longer get yields from mountains or geothermals. In fact, the only way to get adjacency bonus is through farms and plantations; Ie things you have to build which take turns. While they aren't the hardest thing to build, they aren't very effective at generating a ton of science. Put in perspective an observatory surrounded by 6 farms (no plantations) would only yield 3 science. Granted, farms are good on their own because they boost housing and gold for Mayans, this doesn't really seem like a science focused civ unless you are pumping with Pingala as governor. Any thoughts? Also, IM EXCITED FOR MORE CIV
just to shut everyone up the Maya did have female rulers. granted there were not many, mostly because they would take over if the could not get an heir or they became a regent until there heir was old enough.
Definitely like the choice for leader, like the rest of the game it's great that they change up the expectations and get you interested in new people and time periods.
This Civ is a gamechanger. Not receiving boosts from adjacent rivers will absolutely change the way city placement works. You will be able to take advantage of positions that are not necessarily next to a river, plus the bonus amenities from luxuries. Playing tall in tight map locations will be completely different with the boosts to cities near the capital. They will take great advantage from this. Plus the observatory will give them an edge in science because they will be more efficient for tall and tight games than, say, the Korean Seowon which benefits from spaced city placement instead. Basically, you can expect a civ that will be dangerous for scientific victory even if they don't expand much.
Neko-san Oooh is it a Mayan lullaby song? Since I hear the characteristic fiddle, I’m guessing this will be one of the main theme of not the main them for this Civ for the medieval era.
I like when civ introduces not really known of leaders. As long as the leaders are interesting it’s really cool, it will make me want to learn more about someone I never knew existed.
The Inca are a favorite of mind so it is quite interesting to see something somewhat comparable get released (as far as improvements matter). The Maya have a way to generate a little extra gold, have reasonable drawbacks, yet upgraded replacements of Archers and Science districts sounds very formidable. Compared to the Inca they don't have a way to get extra food, but they get extra housing, and have a comparable potential for science adjacency bonuses. Their biggest weakness will be their dislike of too many cities too far however--and settling far and often is a notably important aspect of Civ VI. I'm curious to see how they do, earlier science bonuses and better archers are definitely going to give the Maya a stronger early game which is important in multiplayer bloodbaths.
If you want to enjoy a civ 6 game, never play from a historically consistent perspective but a more "what if"perspective, and I'm still not satisfied with the world map mods so far, some have some places being to small, and those that are too big don't last or end up crashing.
judging by their bonuses, they are intended to be played tall not wide, which is interesting, but I would like to see them have more reward for leaning into that strategy.
@@F1Krazy Palenque will be replaced now that the Maya are playable, and the footage at 0:54 shows a player-controlled Palenque. Question is: will it be another science-geared city-state?
@László Jenei Yes. As Palenque will be a regular city the City State called Palenque will be replaced by another one therefore we will have a new one (or the same one with just another name).
That leader bonus feel severely underpowered. You can realistically only get 6 cities max in range of the capital's Influence. Every single other city will be much weaker. I don't think it's worth it. The break even point from a buff to a nerf to the civ as a whole would appear at the 11th city. So by the industrial era, if you are semi-decent at colonizing you would be getting hindered instead of helped by the leader bonus, considering you get the mathematical maximum out of your bonus (6 cities in the 6tile range of your capital)
Not going to lie, playing as Maya doesn’t sound fun to me. Having no housing adjacency is a big deal for early game, because now you’re stunted until you can make a worker, which is 10+ turns out. Not to mention the farm bonus, which I think will go unused. I think farms end up being one of the least settled tiles when going for productive starts (e.g hills and forests)
15% is a bit steep for a negative, but at the same time if you plan your cities right you can get 13 cities with the 10% boost and with the bonus housing to farms it is much more feasible to do this since fresh water isnt really a necessity, the biggest hold back is if you happen to be spawned next to the coast which could severely impact your play style. But even still if youve got 9-13 cities all with 10% bonus to everything, It shouldnt be much of a hindrance for like 1-4 cities which would have late game less than 15%. I might also be biased because I'm a big fan of playing tall and taking up a condensed amount of land. Plus on a hypothetical if you have Vertical Integration Magnus in the capital and every city has a powered industrial zone with a factory you could get a bonus 85.8 production alone from industrial zones after you apply the 10% boost. She's not the leader for people who like expanding and conquering, but for the people who turtle up and play more pacifistically, she is next level and will probably be one of my favorite to play.
I'm really excited to play them, but i'm worrying if having to build a builder in the first turns of the game ( instead of a scout maybe ) leaves to much of an impact later on. Please give them a small boost towards building builders in the ancient era.
Because not all of them are significant. This lady ruled for 20 years and her city was reduced to ruins. She's a footnote. There are good female rulers, such as Catherine of Russia and Elizabeth the 1st, Victoria and so on. They can put them to the forefront but there isn't much to be amazed at. Korea was particularly egregious considering she was pretty abysmal. Georgia was fine.
When you advertise your game as "battle of the best leaders" but select leaders based on gender and NOT competence then yeah, it's wrong to emphasize them.
My stupid idea of a civ give feedback if u can pls South Africa/Nelson Mandela: Leader ability: Long walk to freedom Gets +5% culture for every different religion in all your cities. Gains 50% more diplomatic favors from all sources. Civilization ability: Die Groot Trek The second and third cities you settle gets all the same buff as the capital. All mines and quarries get extra +2 gold and +2 production if (Industrialization) is researched. All land unites does not suffer movement penalties when crossing or moving on hills tile. Unique unite: ox wagon Replaces the settler. Get +1 movement and can cross mountains. Cost 2 movement to do this action. Unique district: Die kasteel van goeie hoop Replaces the encampment district. It can only be build on hills. If builded it will build the newest wall you have researched to your city center. All range units get +1 range if standing on this district. If (Ballistics) is researched gain another +1 range. Agenda: Peace Keeper Needs to collect the most diplomatic favors and like civs that also have diplomatic favors and dislikes civs who don’t participate in the world congress.
Or another more historically accurate one having smaller tribes helping Hernán Cortés and his men to fight Moctezuma because they were being captured, enslaved, sacrificed and eaten by the Aztecs.
i wonder if they’ll get the added benefits of an aqueduct even if they settle on water since they didn’t get it to begin with. might be good to rush aqueducts and the bottom half of the tree in general. since settling near coast is usually going to be bad for them, sailing probably wouldn’t be a priority
Imagine capturing a city-state as them. The AI already goes a bit overboard on farms, so you could possibly obtain an incredibly powerful city with large amounts of housing and gold
I really want a civilization based on México. No pre-conquist civilization like aztec or maya's. I want a mexican civilization, and it would be amazing if Porfirio Díaz was their leader
She sounded so perfect with the farm boost i like to builds lots of farm close to each other but the penalty for settelling away from the capital sucks
I can see Lady Six Sky will require a new style of play. A hard center of four-five cities making a huge metropolis surrounded by far-away, farming cities... also known as canon fodder.
Civ VI encourages playing wide to such an extent that Ix Mutal Ajaw is going to make playing the Maya extremely difficult, and completely rule out Conquest as a possible victory type.

@@LSelecDgns I think most people have never heard of any Mayan leaders, and the only ones that have are biased for Pacal. I was.
Yea, i don't know her lol. I would have preferred Pacal. I know who that is and think he is more important, but I geuss it is good that it's not just a copy of the leaders from civ 5 I geuss.
McJive On the CivFanatics forum, where Firaxis look for ideas and feedback often, nearly everyone expected her. I’m glad they’re avoiding repeating the same leaders.
Its weird that you are punished for being far away from the capital, and even so, isnt 15% a bit much?
Javitomanzano you are meant to place tall cities further apart so they have more tiles. Not close together.
Exactly! How come a civilization that is supposed to go tall be limited to such a small portion of the map? Tall cities need to be placed somewhat far from each other so they get as many titles as possible, specially with those farms on steroids
Mair Guimarães six tiles apart is plenty of room lol in fact it's the optimal distance for grabbing land

So happy to have these First Looks back
Agreed, can’t wait for Gran Colombia next

This is definitely gonna be an interesting civ, but the city spacing would make this very hard to play if you dont have alot of flat land
Kyle This will be super strong in small map!
And if you have flat land then you cant get good observatories
@@lee-fc5bu you can build farms around it to boost the adjacency bonus
When you going to do first look on Grand Columbia?

Building tall in civ 6, kekw
Definitely like the choice for leader, like the rest of the game it's great that they change up the expectations and get you interested in new people and time periods.
I cant wait to build a mighty civilization and then disappear, leaving few traces of the reasons for my collapse.
Sarah sounds so happy during this first look.
"How we could use rivers? We can't drink from it! On, no! How terrible to be Maya!"
Yeah the first turns are gonna be pretty rough but when you get those farms going then you could go crazy with them.
Instantly my favorite Civ. I can't wait to build my PC summer to really play this new content!!!!
The music in the background is "Koonex koonex", nice!
Lady VI Sky leads the Meier in Sid Maya's Civilization Six
If you want to enjoy a civ 6 game, never play from a historically consistent perspective but a more "what if"perspective, and I'm still not satisfied with the world map mods so far, some have some places being to small, and those that are too big don't last or end up crashing.
judging by their bonuses, they are intended to be played tall not wide, which is interesting, but I would like to see them have more reward for leaning into that strategy.
Ranged unit with a boost against damaged units sounds OP
UthersonL it's awesome for early game spam

@@F1Krazy Palenque will be replaced now that the Maya are playable, and the footage at 0:54 shows a player-controlled Palenque. Question is: will it be another science-geared city-state?
Oh, never mind... I didn't know Palenque was a city-state in the base game, so yeah, makes sense that they'd replace it with this update
@László Jenei
Yes. As Palenque will be a regular city the City State called Palenque will be replaced by another one therefore we will have a new one (or the same one with just another name).
A most worthy Maya leader! Interesting tall play style abilities too, and it’s great to get another science civ!

A ballgame court is definitely missing
I can already tell The Maya are going to be in my "favourite civs to play as" list!!

Thank you!
I am so glad it is Lady Six Sky she is AMAZING.
Korea just found some competition on science
Her Maya name is Wak Chanil Ajaw. No idea how to pronounce it though.
"Wahk Chah-neel A-how". The "j" in Mayan is pronounced as a "h".
I think the Maya will make a fine adiction to our collection of civilizations and Lady Six Sky looks gorgeous (and thick).
I really hope we see Simon Bolivar of Gran Columbia
Eastern Roman DLC soon pls
1:13 It's Maya empire, not Mayan, come on civ, narrator even says it at 0:11
I'm really excited to play them, but i'm worrying if having to build a builder in the first turns of the game ( instead of a scout maybe ) leaves to much of an impact later on. Please give them a small boost towards building builders in the ancient era.

Hecc, there are so many female leaders out there and I know so few of them
_ Mauzi-kun _ there are few of them, civ just likes to emphasize them, nothing wrong with it.
Rejoice! Because you found a chance to learn more! Today is a GOOD day!
@@MrTrellheim facts
Because not all of them are significant. This lady ruled for 20 years and her city was reduced to ruins. She's a footnote. There are good female rulers, such as Catherine of Russia and Elizabeth the 1st, Victoria and so on. They can put them to the forefront but there isn't much to be amazed at. Korea was particularly egregious considering she was pretty abysmal. Georgia was fine.
When you advertise your game as "battle of the best leaders" but select leaders based on gender and NOT competence then yeah, it's wrong to emphasize them.

Unique unite: ox wagon
Replaces the settler. Get +1 movement and can cross mountains. Cost 2 movement to do this action.
Unique district: Die kasteel van goeie hoop
Replaces the encampment district. It can only be build on hills. If builded it will build the newest wall you have researched to your city center. All range units get +1 range if standing on this district. If (Ballistics) is researched gain another +1 range.
Agenda: Peace Keeper
Needs to collect the most diplomatic favors and like civs that also have diplomatic favors and dislikes civs who don’t participate in the world congress.
