Protecting Your PWC's Engine on the Outside

So, do you use protection when your ride?? People always talk about things like changing your oil and using gas treatment etc. Those things protect your PWC's engine on the inside. What about protecting your engine on the outside? You spent good money on that Yamaha, Sea Doo or Kawasaki so make sure you protect it inside and out.
Using my Yamaha FX Cruiser SVHO, I will show you how you can use silicone spray to help keep the engine compartment looking brand new. Its very easy and only takes about 5 minutes after you ride.

I use CRC 6-56. it's silicone based as well and safe for rubber. I buy it by the gallon and put it in a spray bottle.

Great channel, great advice. My process after riding and back in the garage, is to tilt my trailer with a bucket under the front, to have a rear tilt on the ski to let all water go to the back towards the drain plugs. let it drain and also use my blower to blow the bilge area out at least 2x per day for 3-5 days. Sponge out any visible water I see. Open all compartments of the ski, remove contents, let air dry. Remove seats until next ride. Run a fan at the open engine compartment for 3-5 days. Spray your spray of choice in the engine bay, all hose, clamps, plastics, etc. Also at the jet nozzle area and ride plate. Spray all nuts, bolts, and surfaces. I always run the engine for a few blips after pulling out of water to evacuate water out of the water box. Remove cover off top of engine, inspect filter, look for any signs of excess oil, etc. Repeat next weekend

Thanks Capt Frank! I have not done this, but will start. My 6 year old Rotax engine in my Sea Doo has 300 hours on it and still looks new. I know the service folks have sprayed something on it. As we speak, my GTI 155 LTD is at Richmond Honda House, our local Sea Doo dealer, for it's pre-season maintenace. I'll ask them for the spray so I can do it after rides this summer. My boat spends most of its time in salt water on the Chesapeake Bay, but gets a lot of fresh water James River time too.

What’s up Capt Frank. First cleaning today and I had to reference this video again. Dealer only gave me yamalube last week when I picked up my new fx c-svho. Do I wait until the engine cools? Do you wash your engine with water? Only yamalube? Switch to the silicone based spray? Thanks Capt, keep up the awesome videos 💪🏼 it’s definitely helping/guiding me as a new ski rider.

I would probably let it cool a bit but it probably is not real hot anyway. Yamalube is great but silicone spray does the job too. Good luck with the new machine

i have the same ski and the problem i have when rising out my engine compartment is the drain plugs seems to be above the waterline on my ski do you have this same problem?? i have to end up using a wet vac to get the water out!!

There are two things that I typically try. The first one is to pull the plugs out before I tow it home. Usually, at some point, I'll be on a hill which allows it to drain out. Of course, this only works if you are able to rinse it out at the ramp. If I am in the driveway at home, I'll crank the stand on the front of the trailer way up to lift up the bow and the water usually drains out. You may have to put a block or wood or something under the stand if it does not get high enough by itself.

@@alexcassidy4287 Actually, I typically do not get water in the bilge. In fact the ride down in Florida where we ran into some rough water was the first time I remember seeing water inside the hull after the ride. Then again, I am pretty tame compared to some people. I'm not much of a wave jumper and I typically only open it up when the water is pretty smooth.

Your channel is useful. But You should take that cover off. It’s just cosmetic to do it like this. I personally spray at least 3/4 of a wd40 bottle after each time I go into salt water with my ski.

You are definitely not the first person that I have heard say that. I suppose that even if I choose not to remove the cover permanently, it would be a good idea to remove it for spraying the protectant.

@@TheShipsLogg my routine is cleaning the ski, rinsing it, drying it, take the cover off, spraying wd40, let everything dry for 3 days, covering it.
