When your key starts to not want to come out, they sell graphite to blow in to switch. Good as new :)

Phosphoric acid is usually one of the best things to get rid of rust stains. You need to find a product that has it. Not sure how it goes with gelcoat. It is fairly gentle, so it shouldn't be too much of an problem. Just make sure you rinse immediately after cleaning. Don't leave the whole boat then go back to rinse when you're done. That might be a mistake.

No way to "clean as you go" when a whole boat is involved, so "metal Monday" is a great way to go! Tough break with the ignition key, at least it was an inexpensive lesson. 🙂

Star brute rust remover. Spray it on and leave it for a few minutes then spray it off. That worked wonders on our Catalina’s rust spots

use graphite powder, super slippery where WD40 is wet and dust will stick to it and cause more issues

Out of all cleaners the strongest I have used is called “Awesome” it’s very strong so wear gloves.

I think CLR would work better on the deck rust spots

A quick spray of WD 40 into that switch will keep that key from ever sticking !

Yes! We tried with WD40, corrosion X, and PB blaster. To maintain it now we’ll keep using those every now and then.
