I've been involved in the hiring process as a manager, and I can confirm that companies post job openings and conduct interviews with no intention of hiring. The reason why they do this is:
      1. A company with zero job postings on their website looks bad, they post openings just to maintain a fascade that they're performing so well they need additional help.
      2. Managers conduct interviews just to fill their calendars with meetings so they can appear like they're actually working... they're not. We all know most managers are useless and spend most of their days in pointless meetings.
The sad truth is that they're using candidates as pawns in their game of corporate politics. For those who went on interviews and didn't get the job, don't blame yourself, it wasn't your fault. Most likely the company had no intention of hiring anyone.

@@bbmadeline I think that's true and I think this is part of why: after 3 years of hard work and sacrifice I got my big promotion. 6% - whoopee doo. I was offered a 21k jump for the same job at another company recently but turned it down because of a few red flags. It was eye opening to see just how underpaid I am. hiring internally means a company gets to exploit their existing underpaid workforce whereas hiring externally means having to pay more. everyone should act their wage

I got laid off Tuesday after being told 4 months ago that my job was safe for at least a year. I got divorced 8 years ago after 26 years of marriage. I raised my kids so, despite my degree, jobs don’t want a 58 year old with not a ton of job experience. I live in Northern VA so my rent for a tiny 1 BR apartment is $2700/mo. I get $1200/mo in alimony. I’ve been at this job for 3 1/2 years and it felt like family. But since I was given the news, only 1 person has asked me if I’m okay. Even my immediate supervisor hasn’t asked. I’m so hurt, but I’ve come to the realization that nobody matters. Companies don’t value employees or give a crap if they are going to be okay.

I agree with you. The majority of people in America do attach their job to their identity. Sad in a way. It's usually to seem more important, especially if it's a career that sounds prestigious. They'll brag about it online as if they're more important than others.
Furthermore, i appreciate how honest you are and your transparency in regard to mental illness. I myself have experienced it and am still going through it. Some people assume it's a light switch that you can turn off whenever you feel like it. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work that way. I recently discovered that i have AVPD, so i can totally relate to you. I am still trying my best to stop avoiding certain family members/friends who love me unconditionally.

I got laid off from my job 2 years ago. Unless you are prepared financially for it (I wasn't), it is scary. Especially when you have a family to keep afloat. It's tough and depressing. But you have two choices, either let it keep you down or you push through it and get back on your feet (you will). I was lucky. In the end i was hired within 30 days of being laid off. It wasn't the best job, but it got me the confidence I needed to move forward. Always plan for these things. Save money when you can. And she's right, once you are past this you will have learned something about yourself and will learn to be more resilient.

I wish you nothing but the best. You can accomplish your goal. You know what needs to be done. Just work enough to cover your needs and focus on your channel. You are obviously intelligent and capable. I can discern that from the content of this video. The fact that you are not responsible for anyone but yourself gives you a huge advantage. You are a survivor. I am rooting for you. Nothing to be ashamed of in getting laid off. That is not within your control. I am almost 50 and responsible for three kids and a disabled wife. I feel like everyday of my life is a struggle. Thankfully I still have a job, but making ends meet is still hard. I can’t give up, because I have too many people depending on me but that doesn’t mean there aren’t days where I just want to crawl into a hole and die. I keep telling myself things will eventually get better, but I am doubtful. Whatever happens, I have to keep going.

I worked as a software engineer in 14 different tech startups. Most failed and I quit just a few weeks before layoffs. Did get laid off once.
My view was always I worked at Me Inc.
#1 Get skills that make me as valuable as possible.
#2 Take the crap positions no one wants and kill it. That gives you a rep with managers and executives. Then you get the better projects and management remembers you can also do the crap jobs so when crap times comes you stay.
#3 Watch how the company is doing. Short term and long term. I want to be at a growing company. Companies never grow forever.
#4 Always be looking for your next gig. At least once a week at least for an hour research job openings. Not just in my field. What's becoming hot. Should I start training for the next hot thing. I got out of software after 18 years to flip homes. Did well in software, even better flipping homes.

The last company I worked for was struggling, been in startup mode forever. I finished the project (DVD authoring), cashed in their stock and decided to take a few months off writing my own product. Never went back. That was 22 years ago. Loved software and creating products, but love the freedom even more. Mostly what I've done for 22 years is slow flip houses. Working on house #4 now. Planning to sell and move to SE Asia next year.

So you noticed things getting worse under Obama but not the disaster that happened under Bush? The economy drastically improved the 8 years under Obama.

You blame Obama but what has your orange lord and savior Trump ever done for you?

Obama came into office when the economy was in a recession. During the recession, many lost homes and jobs. The economy turned around under Obama. This is a fact by all measures. Trump was handed a thriving economy.

Just went through a re-org and got a new boss. It is brutal. I have had 6 bosses in 9 years. It is hard. Hoping things work out for you.

In America, we have no idea how bad companies can treat us. I was on Reddit and someone said that a global company had to do layoffs. In a single day, Americans all lost their jobs. Other countries had negotiations and severance. As i recall, it took some other countries 6 months to layoff employees in other countries. In other countries they have to have a damn good reason to let you go. Not like here. We really need to get on these politicians about workers rights.
There’s nothing beneficial to society to have people lose their jobs overnight.

That’s not actually true. Unless you’re in those countries you have no idea what goes on and what does not. I currently live in Mexico and wages and longer work days are a norm. Some places only give Sundays off. So it’s all relative. They also usually never get a severance package and they don’t have unemployment benefits of any sort. You’re just SOL if you lose your job.

The Keynesian money system is your boss, you'll always be controlled by the debt money system.
It doesn't get better, we worked our selves to redundancy.
They worked us so hard, there's no work left, so now they have to destroy it and start all over again.

The mindset is how am I going to earn money to sustain myself, instead of I’m not working for someone else. If you are your own boss great but this message can be understood in a different way. Not here to hate, just share another point of view ❤

In my opinion, following what you’re passionate about is never a bad idea. It may lead you to something else that you didn’t even see coming.
    Life is too short.
