You don't have to acknowledge it now, but Steve Earle will go down in history as one of the greatest to ever do it. RIP Justin Townes Earle too Steve gave much more to this world than just his music.
I love the song and have loved it since the first time I heard it! Steve Earle has the perfect voice for his songs! Every time I hear it, I turn the radio up LOUD.
This has ALWAYS been one of my favorite songs, introducing me to a different take on bluegrass, badass sound that belonged to Steve Earle! The man deserves more recognition!
I remember watching the video for this song on MTV in the Army barracks in Ga. I got recalled for Desert Storm, and I watched this video and I was blown away by how 'Outlaw' and badass this song was. Steve Earle deserves more attention.
If you aren’t familiar with his sons music you should check it out. Justin Townes Earle (RIP) was also an amazing talent, better than Steve in my opinion. Unfortunately he didn’t just get his dad’s talent he also got his habits, and it caught up to him in 2020. Such a loss for music.
I bought this album in late 87 finally got to see him play at the Deniliquin ute muster in 2013 such a pleasure to see him play copperhead road Il never forget it thank you Steve earl the song means a lot to Viet kids aswell
Like many people, this was my introduction to Steve Earle back in the day. I remember this song coming over the speakers in my 88 Mustang 5.0 and thinking "shit, that's bad ass". Been a fan ever since.
I have loved this song so much from the first time I heard it. It hit near home for me. I grew up in Arkansas in the 50s & 60s and knew just which hollows had that sour mash smell.😂😋 I was in college in the 70s, and just as the song portrayed, the conversion to seed happened. 🦗 😅😊Thanks Steve Earle for the song & memories.😊
I grew up in Arkansas at the same time as you. I've always been a rocker but my bluegrass roots still run deep. The first time I heard Copperhead Road I was downtown in the car, I rolled down my window and hollered THESE ARE MY PEOPLE!!! Steve always makes me feel that way 😊
WTF is with the negative comments? This is a classic… this kinda music never got played on the radio. So good it pushed thru… Show some respect… brother killing the mando and telling story!
Mr Earle, you are my favorite writer of real poetry. Thank you for your contribution. I’m 50 but thought you were a God back in the day 80’s. Keep it up. I’m in Northern California and would love to see you do your thing soon.🤙🏼
Went to see Steve with his full band 25+ odd years ago in the Ulster Hall in Belfast, jeeeez when he did this song the place went berserk. Without doubt the best concert I ever went to. The man’s an act of pure brilliance.
Respected this song from the first time I heard it on vinyl. I was lucky enough to see it live in Steve's set at Feile '91 (Trip 2 Tipp) His inclusion was one of the reasons I bought a ticket for that 3 day festival. I hung on every word. I also hope that some of that crowd hang their heads in shame for how they behaved towards an established artist. Steve did not receive the respect he earned from that crowd. I personally had a great time though, the memory is cherished.
Saw him at The Irish Centre, Leeds in 1989 (I think), what a fantastic gig, He had Stacey with him & they played a really long set. A lot of Guinness got disappeared too, Man, I wish I was 18 again.
Mr.Earle, I never heard your song till a few years after it came out. I was amazed and seeing this version once again kicks my ass. What else is there to say ?
First saw you at Peabody's Down Under in the flats, Cleveland Ohio when you're first album came out ! Loved your music ever since. Looking forward to seeing you at Kent Stage in August !
When you live in the bush and hear the sound of low choppers coming across the forest tree tops your heart beat rises and the intro to this song plays in your mind not that one would be doing anything illegal

An extremely well written song. A highly underrated song writer.
I took my 85 year old mom to see him at a small venue several years ago. She rocked out right with me. Awesome!
Very cool👍🏻

Hey 👋 how are you doing today…?
It’s not bluegrass in any way. It’s pure rock and roll with elements of rockabilly. Very Bruce Springsteen in spirit.
@@dmanstarr Springsteen is a stretch but okay🥸
@@dmanstarr this bluegrass goes straight over my head, no idea what it means BUT I can certainly hear and feel the Springsteen connection

Can't start my day without hearing this song.. Love from India
Austin City Limits .. what an epic music platform !!! It's introduced more people to great music than the transistor radio in its day.
