      Gary was indeed a great guitarist and the band was an original no doubt. However, Ricky Medlocke was originally in Skynyrd as drummer before forming the great Blackfoot band. Ricky came back to the band as guitarist and he is a true American rocker - Great singer and guitarist.

    • @americansamiam
      @americansamiam 7 місяців тому +1

      @CluelessGamer66 Yes Billy was an original member but my reply was about the last remaining original member - Ricky Medlocke was an original member. He left to do Blackfoot (greatness also) before coming back 20 years or so ago as guitarist instead of drummer. Artiumus Pyle is an original member ( after Ricky) but he has never been back with the group with Johnny as singer. The band has put out new music (some really good music and some just ok) so it wasnt just a tribute band. At this point however, I prefer to have Johnny do his thing with Donnie (van zant brothers) and have Ricky do Solo thing.

      My husband passed May 2020 & the family memorial service, two thousand miles away, that I was unable to attend (I did my/our own service where we were together for 33 years).I wrote his eulogy and asked family to play an Ed Sheeran song we both loved, it always made me cry before he passed and became even more meaningful the moment I lost him.....song still makes me cry if I'm in a coffee shop, grocery shopping, etc - and sometimes have to leave if it's just one of thoes days.

    With Kid Rocks new tour, in 2022, he's on fire as usual. The new song WE THE PEOPLE is a great song. And as usual The Kid Rock does it just right. Just like every damn song he's ever done. It is always great to see Johnny VanZant, I grew up with Johnny in Jax. FLA. Went to Edward H. White high school. We had history class together. They used to play at Playground South and Big Daddy's Lounge. Fixed his ford van couple times, moved some gear with them . Those guys were hard working and I felt privileged to be there and work beside them. Wow times do fly. Still play all the music Lynyrd Skynyrd all of it, and Kid Rock as well. I still visit Johnny and their family's couple times yearly. He's always gracious.

Ok Ricky was the original drummer way back before they even had an album out before striking out on his own with Blackfoot, Gary was the least talented guitarist of the three original and while Johnny does a decent job covering his brothers songs that is exactly what they are cover songs. Billy could tickle the ivory like no other and Leon was good too but they should have called the band something else and wrote their own history in the journals of rock and roll, and they did write some great tunes.
