+TheWolfePit Larry, this pie lasted a day and a half in our house! It was irresistible! Worth every can of cherries that goes into it. Now we are moving on to Tarheel pie which is like a cross between a pecan and a chocolate chess pie. Excited to share that one!
What a nice looking pie. We here in Germany as far as I know only use sour cherrys for baking. Now and again we will use sweet cherries for topping cakes but only raw never baked. Again lovely pie and the combination of almond and vanilla will give it a almost marzipan flavor. thanks for sharing.
+K Kitchenmom I agree! The sour cherries are best for pies. I use the sweet cherries in a similar way but only for toppings and filling for Black Forest Cake. I use frozen sweet cherries though.
Black forest cake uses sour cherries traditionally. I come from the black forest so here and all around we have millions of cherry trees. Alone for making Kirsch Schnapps. It could be we all eat the sweet cherries to fast so they had to use the homecanned sour cherries.
I absolutely love watching your videos. I never really liked to cook but after watching your videos, I think I've developed a newfound love. I even make my own bread now... :-) My waistline is not too happy about the idea but who cares....my family loves it!!!!
the people that make the cherrys also has blue berrys would you do about the same thing for a blue berry pie? the reason i ask is my son had been dying to make a blue berry pie! he is only 6 i was just going to do the canned blue berry pie filling but if i can make it as much as homemade as i can!
