OH Noreen.....I am so excited you mentioned Sugar Cream Pie being Indiana's state pie. My grandpa ( who passed away in 2008) has a famous Sugar Cream Pie know as Wick's pies. It's located in Winchester, Indiana. He was the first man to get a patent on a pie and that was his sugar cream pie. It's best warmed up a bit. So glad you made this video!!
Alicia Hi Alicia...you are so sweet to comment back to me. Thank you. I'm so glad you think my grandpa's pies are so good. I agree with you very much. Blessings to you for a speedy recovery from your surgery.
One of THE BEST pies EVER! Cathy, You should be proud because Wicks is THE GO TO sugar cream pie in Indiana stores. Thanks for sharing Noreen, I will try your recipe!
Cathy Holland my family goes down to Indiana to see family and every time we do we bring back about 4 wicks pies. Literally the best pie I've ever had.
The Wicks Pie Company in Winchester IN, is famous for thier suger cream pies. I've been trying for years to make a pie that tastes something like it. Can't wait to try your recipe. Thanks for sharing!!
+Deanne Wessar HI Deanne.....Duane Wickersham ( Wicks Pies) is my grandpa. Of course, he passed away in 2008. Grew up with Wicks Pies. My uncle now runs Wicks Pies. Really great seeing you mention Wicks Pies...thank you for enjoying our families pies.
I grew up in northern Indiana and Sugar cream pie was everywhere. I now live in the south and you usually can't find them here. Good thing I have Grandma's recipe. I never saw it made with the cinnamon sugar on top.
As a born and raised Hoosier you did awesome! My mom made the best sugar cream pie and it was a big deal for most folks living in the state. I will say that my mom grew up in the depression era so maybe younger generations won't be as familiar with it. Funny considering it is the state's official pie. Lol! Now I'm going to have to go make one...YUM!
Yep so many people have never even heard of or had Sugar Cream Pie. I am from Indiana and I grew up eating this and it is my all time favorite pie! My family makes it every year for Thanksgiving and even during Christmas! I can't get enough of this pie though it really is the bomb! I would rate it next to Cheesecake for sure.
Sugar pie is a typical dessert of the western European countries of Northern France and Belgium, the Canadian province of Quebec, and Midwestern United States states such as Indiana, where it is known as sugar cream pie.
There is nothing wrong with having pie for breakfast. I grew up in SW Ohio, about four miles from the Ohio, Indiana state line so definitely know about sugar cream pies. It is one of my favorites!
Our favorite pie! Hoosier here, I grew up on this pie... we only top with nutmeg (not in the pie, and no cinnamon.) I've had it both ways, but prefer it without the cinnamon. If chess pie is it's southern cousin, you should also try its northern cousin, Shoo Fly Pie. Also Yummm.
that's a def. must try for me ... never had anything like this one .. and I like hearing the surprise on both your voices at how good it was when u tried it for the first time . .. good stuff !
Being from Muncie, Indiana myself-"hey Rick!" I've never heard of OR tried this either! So, my wife and I will use your recipe to try this! Where did you grow up Rick? Thanks for the great video!
I'm going to make this for my cousin it's her favorite pie.. she is going to be so Happy... She always thinks no one loves her and that'sa not so.... I know she never gets one UA-cam so this is for you.. I love you Janet ❤️
Noreen , my mom used to make sugar pies for my siblings and me....they were very sweet , but soo good...I am from Canada , only 3 hours from Quebec...and sugar pie was always big here and still is.. the french are very big on it....thank you soo much for the video...
I honestly don't recommend making a smaller version of this pie. Unfortunately some recipes are just not adjustable. I would take the leftovers to work and share them with friends.
I've lived in Indiana my whole life...I am 47 and JUST found out that the Sugar Cream Pie was our state pie...Not fond of the sugar cream pies I have tried, but I will try making it myself and see what I think....If it were up to me, pumpkin pie would be our state pie! ha!
I have followed your recipe for Sugar Cream Pie that is listed in your website. I have made it three times and I like it better than this recipe although they are very similar.. Also I did not use as much sugar for the topping. Got nothing but raves and was asked every time for the recipe. Thanks for posting, will be making this pie more often.
My mom was raised a farm girl, she always made me a little 'sugar cream pie' when she was baking pies. I remember watching her make it and she used her fingers to mix the filling right in the pie crust. Are you familiar with this as I don't remember exactly how she made it but it was delicious!
I can not wait to make this. Custard pies are my absolute fav. This looks amaze!!!! Can I sub the nutmeg with anything??? Is it absolutely needed? No Facebook for me 😞
Happy Piesgiving Noreen & Rick! WOW...I have never heard of this Sugar Cream Pie before, but am going to have to add it to my recipe box...It looks so good...I want some pie now...LOL Thank you for sharing this recipe...Love you's guys xo Blessed Be and Smooches...
Pie for breakfast is never wrong! I was trying to remember the pie I had seen before that was similar and then you said it -- Chess Pie! I'm trying to figure out which one to try. We don't have any food sensitivities so no limitations there. Which is your favorite, Noreen?
So sad I couldn't register for your giveaway, not on facebook. However, I will add this recipe to my collection especially with the high price of eggs. You're always on the mark with your recipes. God bless you and your family and thanks for sharing. I was able to click on the like symbol at top right corner but could not leave a comment unless I agreed to sign up for Facebook, which I don't want, so anyhow, thanks.
Noreen thank you for saying what this pie taste like. Ive been wondering. im gonna make 2 of these tmrrw. Oh yeah i ate 2 pieces of sweet potatoe pie this morning lol
Thank You and Thank You again for not putting cinnamon in this pie it does not go there and too many use it and it just makes this pie awful only Nutmeg and this is perfect thank you again for a Great recipe for sugar cream pie :)
I grew up in Indiana all my life and live here still. Yet until recently i have never heard of sugar cream pie. I was looking up indiana foods and this was mentioned as the state pie. Im more familiar with chess pie. I do live in Evansville which is at the most southern tip of Indiana.
I'd been looking through the UA-cam videos on sugar cream pie, and yours is the first that got the consistency right. Yours is also the first one that uses all heavy cream (the best way to make it). A real sugar cream pie always have that crispy brule top. Variations include using 1/3 brown sugar in the mix, leaving out the cinnamon and using a light nutmeg on the top sugar layer, and sometimes a shortbread/butter crust. When I lived in Indiana, I loved eating these. I moved to Oregon, and no one has ever heard of them here. I'd lost my old recipe years ago, and now I've got a great one again! One serving hint. After the pie has set, warm it up in the oven again before serving. The heat really brings out the flavor. My mouth and stomach thank you. My doctor will probably perform a voodoo curse, but this pie is worth it.
haha! Thank you! We had never really had this before and now we love it! I'm glad you will be using my recipe in the future and that is it everything you were looking for. :)
This pie was amazing! Would make again in a heartbeat, I would leave the topping off next time though because i couldn't taste the filling what so ever. Still Fantastic!
boo! I don't have facebook...=( pie looks like a cross between eggnog and vanilla pudding? I may make this for my hubby who LOVES shoefly pie...which may be a distant relative of sugar cream pie. thanks for the yummy video.
oh YUMMMMM !!! your killing me , now i want pie at 1 30 am . on my way to bed to dream of that pie !!!!! lol you guys have a great weekend n happy halloween !!
Noreen this past year has had it's ups and downs. Ken's parents passed away, two months apart. We also were really busy doing a lot of traveling. We flew over 77 thousand miles, took two cruises and 1 road trip. I'm tired just thinking about it, I feel like I need a vacation LOL. The good news is things are getting back to normal. The old man is hanging up his badge. Ken has 9 months to go before RETIREMENT (yay), and then we will be in NY full time. I plan on 2016 being a great year!!!! OX to you and your family.
LOL You guys are so funny. I take it, it's good! So cool, another one I have to try. I'm headed for the store tomorrow, so the pies will get started on Saturday, and this is another one for my list. I do like what's in it, so we should like this one too. Looks fantastic. I just love pie, it's one of my favorite deserts. Bless, Sheila

There is nothing wrong with having pie for breakfast. I grew up in SW Ohio, about four miles from the Ohio, Indiana state line so definitely know about sugar cream pies. It is one of my favorites!
Yep! I'm gonna try this one. No shame in pie for breakfast. It is how I take care of all leftover pie.
i live in Indianapolis and this pie looks fantastic. Looks like Shapiros deli downtown
I had never heard of this pie, until I lived in Indiana for 8 years. Oh. My. GOODNESS. This pie is decadent! So, so good! :)
My grandmother made this pie. SWEET memories! ! Thank you for sharing. Tell Rick they also made it in va !!!!!!!
We always have left over pumpkin pie for breakfast!! It's one of my favourite childhood memories!
i have never seen this pie before. It looks yummy.
I was born and raised in Noblesville, IN. OMg this brings back memories. I grew up on this pie.
Also Yummm.

I am from Indiana and have heard of this pie but never tried it. I think it is time I do!
One word ..... yummy!
If you were to make this mini how would you adjust the time to make it work?? I live alone and I want to try it but don't want to make a whole big pie
I honestly don't recommend making a smaller version of this pie. Unfortunately some recipes are just not adjustable. I would take the leftovers to work and share them with friends.
You could make the batch of filling and then use the mini pie shells, bake them off and freeze the rest and then thaw them as you want.
It looks and sounds like a vanilla cream pie that my Mom used to make. You can add coconut also for another variation
This is awesome. I've never seen this done. So making this on Thanksgiving. I love Pies-Giving.
So tempting, yum!
Representing Indiana! Woot woot! yummm
Pies are way better than cakes. yummy Looking forward to Thanksgiving.
Pie is the breakfast of champions....or the breakfast of people who love yummy food.
I use this recipe as my official recipe for years due to you. Thank you highly!

Could you please show folks like the different ways to make pie crust. Please....
Hi! It looks amazing. Can I use regular mil instead of the other one? Thanks
+Eva Diva No, regular milk won't work. It is not high enough in fat content. You have to use heavy cream.
+Noreen's Kitchen thank you so much! :)
My mom made this and it was my very fav pie! In Iowa, we call it Sweet Cream Pie.
I love pie and the crust MUST be homemade. I'd choose pie over cake any day. Thanks for this interesting recipe.
I’m a Hoosier and this is my favorite pie!
Oh my goodness that looks sensational. I've never heard of that before. Is it similar tasting to a buttermilk pie ?
I have followed your recipe for Sugar Cream Pie that is listed in your website. I have made it three times and I like it better than this recipe although they are very similar..
