This is one of the great bagpipe tunes regardless of origins. Another song I'd often thought would make a great pipe tune is called For You by Chris Norman.
This is a German tune so don’t tear up over olden days Scotland too much. The tune itself is neither Scottish nor old : it was composed in 1982 by Michael Korb and Ulrich (Uli) Roever, two German musicians
We know, and we absolutely adore the melody. Many of us would love this to become our national anthem. It evokes the heart and spirit of Scots. And the title Highland Cathedral speaks of the indescribable beauty of the actual Highland mountainous terrain. I've witnessed tourists shed many a tear as it comes into their view.
It was composed for Highland Games in Germany in 1982 but who cares. It’s a wonderful tune when played on bagpipes and it’s the pipes that make people emotional.
In any event, there are Scottish patriotic words to it now -- happened roughly twenty-five years after the pipe tune became a hit. Scotland's Three Tenors sang it, with the Scottish Fiddle Orchestra. There are at least three sets of hymn lyrics as well.
@@manichairdo9265 Well said. It's a hommage to the Highlands and to Scotland as a whole. All traditions have a beginning. Alba gu brath. 🏴🦄🦁🦄🏴 🦁☀️🐝⚡🦅⚡🐝☀️🦁

How many cathedrals are in the Highlands?
What is this melody called?
What is the name of this tune? I've forgotten :(

Sadly the strings were drowned out by the pipes and drums.
The pipes were the focus of this piece, the strings were accompaniment.
Oh me 😳, pipes were the main instrument here thankfully.
As they should be!
Sheer perfection
