At last the time has come and after 30 years of working on other peoples roofs. I finally get the opportunity to work on my own.
In this video I make a bespoke lead slate from code 5 sheet lead. Showing the full process. I hope you enjoy.

Looking good. Question about the breathable membrane and how it's laid under/over the lead to stop any (unlikely) runs of water going into hole the vent pipe comes out of.

So the breathable felt is cut tight to the pipe. The felt that’s laid over the top is just temporary untill the tiles are laid.

Are the fumes from the soldering an issue?

I’m not sure about soldering. But the fumes from lead welding are extremely toxic.

What oil do you use for your lead?

I’m doing what I can to try and save money. My mate will be doing all the complicated parts. I’ll labour and tile in the area. Probably cut in the sides of the dormer and hips too

Done a lot of roofing in my days but now I just repair and maintain them.

Yes I could have done. But I like the idea of being able to work on my own roof.
