I stayed there in 1965 as a 16 yr old and it was paradise. Im 75 now and always have a Hawaiian themed home. Got married on Maui in 1978. Went to Big island twice in 80s but Kauai my fave😊😊😊❤❤
As others: I must thank you so much for this post! I was never really interested in this subject, since it was way before my time. Yet ironically, I learned about it a few years ago via, a South Park episode, called, "Going Native". (Sixteenth Season - episode 11) Even if you don't like South Park, or think it to be crude (which it IS), their parody of the whole Hawaiian life style is spot on and priceless. Anyway, The Coco Palms is featured in this episode, (along, with the ghost of Elvis!), so, after seeing that, I HAD to begin to look into this FACINATING place. One you do, you really get sucked into it. If only there was a way to help bring it back to it's rightful grandor, . . .
Thank you, great film! I took this tour years ago and now live in Kauai. The debate on the Coco Palms seems endless. Personally, I'd love to see it restored (but maybe at a smaller size room-wise so that it doesn't add to traffic congestion). Kuhio Hwy is a nightmare sometimes. Here's to Elvis and all the legends that passed through its doors!
Great video, thanks for sharing! I was just there last week and had the tour with Bob. My wife an I stayed there 30 years ago on our honeymoon. So said to see such a great hotel in this state of ruin. A great piece of Kauai history that some day will be worth bringing back.
First stayed at Coco Palms in 1959 with my parents right after hurricane Dot hit Kauai. Later with my own family in I believe 1991. I've read that Hyatt will rebuild and open in 2017. Let's hope.
Well I toured the site today and it seems that the investors underestimated the cost and so now we're almost to 2020 and it still sits in the same horrible condition.
that was just great ! that was so mind boggling hearing the stories and remembering the movies filmed there. they can probably make more money renting it out to movie sets filming new movies than trying to restore such a huge property. it still carries such Charm as it sits ! restoring it may ruin that charm - sadly, Iniki was wicked

Yes, the history of this place is so fascinating ... and it continues to evolve.
Wow and thank you for sharing
Great video...thanks Stayed here in '82...loved it.
Can't wait to see what the renovations will bring.
We had our honeymoon there in 1982. This is heartbreaking.😢
I like the music 😍
Thanks Nadja, the song titles are included in the end credits.

Nice post! I'll be in Kauai mid January and will try to chase down an update on my channel for this unique property.
