I wonder if a tie back halter would have helped in this scenario? With the distance to the neckline - definitely the waist is a key tailoring point.
I also think minidresses are hard to nail because of the length - I’m short so I always need them shorter so my legs don’t look 1 inch long

A tie back halter would help with the length, but change the formality of the dress. If you wanted to keep the integrity of the design I would recommend altering rather than tying the halter.

Girl… please go with someone that is not willing to be that rude in a boutique… you might not like the designer’s, but being this rude is so classles… and it reflects on you; save yourself as a costumer and leave them in their element and deal with them after the wedding… with this attitude is clear they love to hate
