I don't mind Moiraine being a lesbian, it doesn't change anything about the character's essence, it's other characters I have problems with. This tiny, delicate looking woman who's made of iron, is hyper-competent and is completely dedicated to her cause, and goes behind everyone's back and never answers questions. So minus the tiny part she's correctly depicted. I don't mind things like her having blue eyes instead of dark either. Her and Lan are some of the best ones.

In the books Rand is built like a front row rugby player and is a head taller than almost anyone he meets. The guy shoots a bow that only three other characters can even pull. He also doesn't allow women to manipulate him, at all.
Min, Elaine, and Aviendha might have something to say about that last statement. True, he usually did want he wanted despite what anyone else said (in the middle and later books), but they had their moments where they got him. And often they chose to support him despite disagreeing, and he often relied on that support to keep doing what he needed to do. Not all manipulations are overt.
I think that's too much. He's specifically taller than everyone, but he's not that muscled. He's more athletic than built, specifically not bulky. I'd say he's built more like... a swimmer I guess? But with longer legs. As for the women manipulating him, he does early on. At the start he does everything Moiraine says. He doesn't really make a distinction of gender in this, he's from two rivers, which makes him stubborn as fuck, *that* is why he doesn't let people manipulate him in general, and he gradually develops a specific distrust of the Aes Sedai, not women in general. But he's distrustful of everyone because everyone tries to fuck with him.
@@JoRoq1 Was thinking the same. But still, every woman who isn't already a old and cloes friend or lover, is dealt with aggressively. The Aes Sedai at Dumai's Wells for example. Even those who were ostentiously his allies, he threatened and made bend the knee.
I would say--and I mean this seriously--that Robert Jordan was just about _the biggest henpecked cuck that ever lived._ Rand is CONSTANTLY manipulated by the women around him, and it just gets worse when Jordan gets senile around 7 or 8 & the books become unreadable. Jordan had huge mommy issues, and he projects that through Rand (& every other character really.) I'm real sorry what they did to your series though, fans.I truly enjoyed the books up through 5 & mostly through 7. But after listening to them on MP3 I just wasn't a fan any more. I barely finished the first episode, and never went back. Among all the problems, including applying the CW treatment to Emond's Field, the worst sin was to eliminate the distinct gendered halves of the One Power. That is the literal foundational premise for the entire story - the Dragon being male, the matriarchal social and governing systems, everything. Once they threw that out, canon was already so demolished that no other change made any difference.
The dichotomy of the male and female halves of humanity is a central theme of the books. As soon as it was announced, I knew there was little chance the showrunners (or shadowrunners?) would buck the current fad of trans ideology and stay true to the books.
@@jchoneandonly Well, you're still right. Anything older than 8-10 years is older than the trans-nuttiness. I think a lot of folks don't really realize how quick it went from "obvious insanity" to "tolerance" to "mandatory compliance." It's all been in the last decade.
At this point I'm just hoping they'll decide to cut certain characters that I really like so they don't get ruined lol (cough cough Asmodean, Lanfear, Galad, cough)

In anime, getting a haircut is used to signify a change or growth in a character. I guess if the logic applies here, Rand is just being stripped of all character. Which I guess makes sense.
Well, in the beginning of The Great Hunt, Rand gets training by Lan to be a blademaster. As the Amyrlin shows up to Fal Dara, there is a comment about how Rand is turning into a Shienaran. He wears his hair in a Topknot. So, he did not have a buzz cut.
Which anime? Lol. Rand's lack of hair will be the least of problems, mark my words. They would need to work really hard to make this show into acceptable category.
@@matthewblankenzee5452 I remember reading that he looked Shienaran, but I assumed that was his clothing and mannerisms (that were taught by Lan). I don't think he actually had the topknot? That seems a bit far, especially because Rand's iconic feature (in all the illustrations, in all the books) is a full head of red hair.
@@AeneasGemini Is it just his clothes which the Lady Amalisa had made for him( and does not appear till the Amyrlin actually arrives)? Is it that he said, "Peace favor your sword"? As the original poster stated that the haircut is to show a change in the character, which I agree is something that does show a change. A hairstyle that Shienaran soldiers wear would be more indicative than a buzzing of the hair. But as another poster stated, that's probably the least of our worries.
The actor who plays Rand normally has very short (peach fuzz) hair. If you've seen the movies he's been in, it's basically the same exact hairstyle. I'm guessing he didn't like the ginger wig from season one.
@@audreyandremington5265 If I remember correctly, he also started filming with a broken arm from an accident before he'd even been offered the part. And Orlando Bloom isn't even the most dedicated actor out there, not by far. Look at Robert Carlisle, for example. That man is the living definition of the phrase "above and beyond"

I read book 11 first so it confused me too much and I didn't like it at first. Then I found The Eye of The World and I just fell in love with the series. Each book was hard to put down. Everyone involved in making this a travesty needs to be taken to the back of the shed and made to face a wall
I had been wanting to read this book series for years (after discovering it through listening to Blind guardians' music based on it) but didn't due to rumors of a show. When the show did arrive, I found it boring and dull, which in turn made me want to read the books more (more out of confusion of how this could be a series everyone lauded). Then I watched your videos talking about the show, and you describing the things they cut out and made me want the books even more. Now here I am two months after buying the full set and am currently reading A Memory of Light. I have laughed, cried, gotten angry and have fallen in love with this book series.
Two months, wow. It took me almost 4 years to properly get through the whole series. Though admittedly it was off and on, with a bunch of other stuff in between.
@@menachemsalomon It also reignited my love for books and am currently on book four of The Inheritance Cycle. I also read The Shadow of the Conqueror and have the first four books of The Pendragon Chronicles on the way. Have a wonderful rest of your week.
You know, what Amazon is doing makes me love the books even more, i feel the need to protect my collection from the garbage the Waste of Time show is. My favorite story ever given to a soulless corporation who does not care about the story, hopefully everyone gets they're act together and realizes virtue signals don't make money, respecting the fans/customers does.
I actually lost sleep over how much I hated season one, and how they bastardized such a beautiful story. Stomaching this next season will be like channeling Saidin with the taint still intact.
My guess would be, that most of the scenes are from Falme, The whitecloaks riding into the fog (from the horn), most of the fighting is in some kinda fog. The little fortification is on the coast if you take a closer look, so probably Falme too. But it doesnt look right.
12:45 don't forget that they have to invent things for Moiraine and Lan to do (because they are hardly in book 2); also, get ready for Yassica's cold open!
They renewed season 3 before even seeing the results of season 2. I can't wait for amazon and rafe to have a wake up call when less than half of their original audience watch the premiere of s2.
@@RichardPhillips1066 i get why you'd think that with that quality but this is an extremely expensive show. Season 1 cost 100M and amazon said s2 will cost more. That's a bigger budget than got s1 and the witcher s1 had. Make no mistake this is costing amazon a fortune. It may look like a cw show but it sure costs a lot more than that.
A story is told the way it is told because that is how it is supposed to be told. To rewrite it to fit agenda and push representation or whatever, completely changing the original work in a way that isn't even attempting to be faithful to the character and intent of the source (adaptation naturally allows for some change, but this...?) is a complete insult. I highly recommend people don't even hate-watch this so they won't get the numbers, period.
remember, Aiel wastes is books 4 and 5 :D So maaaaaybe the made Falme a sand desert, the wastes are supposed to be a stone desert anyways. Then the whitecloacks would make sense again
If Amazon doesn't want to take an L on this overall, they need to purge the writers room of people who a) haven't read the books (all the books so they get the full context) or b) don't like the books (regardless of whether they've read them). With the people they have, it's no surprise that the Wheel of Time has turned out how it has. I'd admit that there are some things that are plain weird that don't have to exist in the show but that doesn't mean a full scale rewrite.
Will it be Moiraine or Nynaeve in the sky battling the Dark One? I know it's supposed to be Rand, but this shit show can't let a white man be seen saving the world.
I’ll be nice and leave a comment for the algorithm. Years ago, when I first tried to get into the series, I never got into the Wheel of Time. I think I got halfway through book two before stopping, because while I remembered the first of it, I don’t remember the last of it. But a while back I was thinking about it and thought that I ought to give the series another go. Then your videos reviewing the Amazon show reminded me of it again. I had no intention of watching the show for how bad it looked, but I went and read the books. And this time around I enjoyed and appreciated the series, and managed to finish it. I actually appreciated Rand’s character early on and what he went through and how that affected him. His arc was one of the strongest ones in the story from where it started compared to where it ended up. I enjoyed the world building, most of the characters, the magic system, and the themes. While I have some issues with how certain things were resolved (or not) by the end, overall, I loved and enjoyed much more that I didn’t. (Not faulting Sanderson for that, by the way. That was a monumental task to try and finish such a huge story that wasn’t his.)
So glad for the Whitecloaks (RIP) for introducing me to your channel. I noped out of the show after episode 4, which I heavily fastforwarded through because it was so bad, and just stuck with watching your reviews for the remainder. This series means a lot to me. My brother introduced them to me ages ago when I was a kid, and I gave them back to him while he was trapped in the hospital to get through the doldrums. What Amazon did to this series is a travesty, and I know my brother would agree were he still with us. I eagerly await your reviews of this abomination; I definitely won't be watching a second of it on Amazon.
Yeah, Bornhold gets redirected in that direction. After the Horn of Valere is blown, the heroes from the dead with the CoL fight the Seanchan. Huge epic battle as Rand faces off with Ba'alzamon.
Town outside of cairhien is called the forgate. And I believe it doesn't even show up until book 5 "Fires of Heaven," or book 6 "Lord of Chaos." And the tower could be the "traveling stones?" Maybe??
I think the last soldier was a tarabon solddier, they are described as having a metallic veil... but that would assume they are following source material
I don't know why UA-cam put your LotR Amazon video from a few days ago in my feed, but it did and I found your channel. Subscribed. Wow. Keep up the great work! I am glad to see people who enjoy fine fantasy, scifi, geekdom-in-general media and call out all the nonsense out there. This is way too rare these days. I've read all of the Wheel of Time and looked forward to the series but after about 3 episodes, I have felt NO desire to go back and finish the first season. That saddens me on so many levels. Amazon thought they were going to have the success of GoT but they sabotage themselves. It is horrifying.
You guys should consider doing watch parties for season 2. Film yourself reacting live, so we can get that RAW Shad emotion lol. And you can pause where needed to trash whatever fresh abomination has offended your sensibilities
@16:00, that's the outskirts of Cairhien. I think it's called the Foregate. It's ramshackle and sketchy because so much of Cairhien was burned and destroyed by the Aeil War 20 years later.
I think the whole "another turning of the wheel" thing is OK, the books give that possibility to the filmmakers... But I could cry looking at what they did with it, they didn't use their chance at their own take of the world at all.
It isn't. Other turnings of the Wheel aren't the same people doing different things. It's the same souls in different bodies experiencing similar events.
Man, without someone that needs to have the books explained to them, I am so lost. I really have to read these books, but I've gotta get around to reading the Silmarillion first (if it didn't have an 8 week waiting period at my library).
On the Whitecloaks- their armour and attire. Burnished chainmail was worn, but it isn't something I remember being said, that it is something every single soldier wore. With descriptions of soldiers in battles, or scenes of people like Galad and Eamon, as well as others, it seems the general rank-and-file Whitecloaks often wore just a durable, sizable, polished chest plate or breastplate, (whatever terminology is used in the book) whilst the higher ranking (or perhaps also wealthy) may have had more access to mail. They wear their cloaks of pure white, and tabards of the same colour. A blazing sun was emblazoned on both the armour and often cloaks or surcoats/tabards. It isn't at all mentioned (in the books) that Children of the Light ever wore full-arm pauldrons joininh a bracer at the elbow that connected to a gauntlet.
18:45 they are combining Tear and Falme into one. They even re-drew the map to accommodate this. You see a map of the west coast with a river and a delta. We are getting Falmear.
23:25 the inclusion of a river and delta means this is Falme and Tear. Falme did not have a river, and Tear has the only delta (The Fingers of the Dragon). However, looking at how the mountains are drawn, this cannot be a map of a south coast.
The main city that they commented on thinking as perhaps Cairhien, seemed to be maybe...going for the city with the Gholam? Ebou Dar? Possibly good for that desert castle, because I can't seem to remember a desert castle from the books. Really though, I made 2 episodes and quit. I was even reading through the books again and it'll be a while before I can go to them again.
the 'waygates' were also no bigger than a regular door, even Loial had to duck to get in them, in the books anyways...i also think the ruins and the shot with rand are in Rhuidean, as it WAS covered in fog until after rand gets his dragons
The Aiel dress felt a little too drab. There should be a dash or cactus green or lichen among their clothes. They had immense camo value for being so simple. 7:30 looks whitecloak. The dress isn't at all like an Aiel. The veil was also explicitly black: "Black veiled Aielmen." The veil the whitecloak is wearing is just to mask against dust. And the Aiel also shunned armor. The Whitecloaks could NOT be in the the Waste, rather the Almoth Plain, because they did sally on QUestioner orders to meet the Seanchan. But they're showing us something far too dry for that to really be a serious consideration. The Aiel settlements I had pictured were somewhat makeshift or build into canyon walls and hollowed buttes. No one else had that ammount of influence in the Wastes. The Aiel are territorial. Falme was not run down. The Foregate in Carhiein was. But Foregate folks are colorful. 19:30 if that's Egwene, and set in the tower, that's not a regulation dress. 20:00 when Mat whipped the princes, they were also using quarterstaffs. 21:00 that is not the sort of door I imagined the Fade nailed to. Rather, something more plain, and villagey. The whoel structure of old wood beams, maybe with a stone foundation and lower supporting wall, but that's it. Cancer patient Rand is a strange choice.f
Could the blond White Cloak that's so heavily featured might be Jaret Byar, the White Cloak that takes a dislike to Perrin so much? The only reason I think that is because it looks like he's got an axe on his back, and Child Byar was carrying Perrin's axe as his personal weapons for a while.
And what do you thing bout one of the oldies Legend of the Seeker? I can admit I haven't read the books (yet) but I remember the show was really good. Great cast, great visuals, great plot, great action. It was simply fun.
Legend of the Seeker literally broke away from the books in the first episode. It was nowhere near WoT's level of trash, but Raimi was looking for his next Hercules/Xena show and wanted to tell his own story, not be a faithful adaptation.
Wild guess on shaving rand's hair here. They're mashing rand and masema together. He's going to be a religious zealot type character and it's up to the girls to keep him from inquisitioning the world into ruin before the last battle.
I meet Robery Jordan a few times (he went to the college that I attended and was an active alumni in the corps of cadets) I got two of his spears when he passed. I don't think Robert Jordan would have been a fan of the Amazon series (look up his thoughts on Shannon Faulkner attending his Alma matter, The Citadel.
The serpent isn’t eating its tail because the Dark One won and the Wheel is broken. Or the people making the show are incompetent. These two are not mutually exclusive.
Been hearing of this series for years now from family. Since the show came out into and your videos revealed it for the dumpster fire it is I finally broke down and bought them. Halfway through book seven and I won't stop until I'm done, this series is phenomenal.
7:45 It's either me or Jaret Byar. Also, we are back and on YT, doing a re-watch of season 1, for everyone that wanted an EFAP-style review of this show but were too afraid to do it. Booze comes highly recommended, for those that drink.
I agree with you guys on almost everything and the thing I'm not makes me want to reread the first wheel of time book because I remember loyal being needed to guide them but it was only moraine that could open the doors
Could the waygate you were looking at be the traveling stones from the second book? The one where Rand, Loial, and Hurin travel to that alternate reality and run into Lanfear.
Hey Shad and Oz just so you guys know, I stopped getting video upload notifications. It seems like my viewership was blocked. Not sure why, but I’m glad I checked back into ur channel! Keep up the good content
I will watch you guys react the season 2 but I’m not gonna watch it! This sneak peek killed any chance of me ever continuing show. I’m happy to wait 20 years for another attempt!
Yeah they tricked me into watching the first season because I loved the books so much. Not going to continue to watch anymore of this Marxist/feminist reinterpretation of something I enjoyed so much. At this point they cannot be breaking even on their investment, so that tells me it really is about the message. The only bright side is the people drawn to the books by this trash. It sucks what they are doing but again I do get some enjoyment watching you gentlemen taking the piss out of it.
The Dragon Reborn without his mane of auburn hair?!! I'd say this was a dealbreaker but there never was a Shadow of a deal between me and this show. Or at least, any Shadow of a possible deal died with the treatment of Lews Therin and the taking of Tarwin's Gap from Rand (the two are mutual corollaries I think).
I mean there is reasonably reasons that could make him shave his head within the contraction of the events for a show. But Rand sitting on a throne with one leg over the armrest should have wild red hair.
In book two there’s a section where they are tracking Padan Fain through some sort of poor grassland unclaimed by any country, and they even go into a town sacked by Fain and the trollocs where he’s nailed a Myrdraal to a door. Perhaps that’s the fortress because if that is Falme it looks pathetic.
I understand combining Book 2 & 3. *Synopsis wise* they are very similar, Rand/Perrin chasing Fain/Rand, Wondergirls get themself in trouble with the Black, BIG battle at the end. It works very well in the books because of shift from very Rand-centric PoV (at least 50% of page count) to multiple PoVs, but transitioning to TV it doesn't. Also it seems they made Falme a middle-east analog (just as Shienar was an eastern analog) ... which is a choice. Not sure what I think about it. I think they might gave its ownership to Tarabon which is a middle-east / Arabic analog in the books
Condensing 2 meaty books into 1 season? Well, guess there goes my, so far, favorite Perrin moment of him leading the Two Rivers defense and then giving a big middle finger to the White Coaks that come to take him away. And considering what they did to Perrin in S1, they might as well drop the whole White Cloaks having a big anti-Perrin boner altogether.
That Perrin sequence is in book 4. And to be fair they have said that season 2 should pan out so they can do a more faithful adaption of book 4 for season 3. That said, based on season 1, I doubt they will do much of anything in book 4 justice even if it is *more* faithful than they have been so far.

@@christianclark347 that book is a little bit older than the trans nuttiness.

Hope they dont show Eben Hopwill, but i dont think the story will go that far

It's amazing how far Oz has come from not reading the books to telling Shad a couple things he missed. He must have been reading hard.
Your review of season 1 inspired me to pick up the books and read them - I'm super glad I did, they're amazing! I hate how they disrespect this wonderful source material but I'm happy to see you guys are calling it out and aren't letting them get away with it.
Hold them to account and stay watchful. The trampling of one of the greatest stories ever told needs to be properly protested.
🤣🤣😂😂😅😅
Compare that to Orlando bloom who broke a rib during lotr filming. This guy can't handle a wig
@@audreyandremington5265 If I remember correctly, he also started filming with a broken arm from an accident before he'd even been offered the part. I loved the old catch phrase, for the writing is bad and full of errors!
You guys convinced me to start reading the Wheel of Time, I’m on book 11 right now and damn this series is awesome.

Rip /whitecloaks killed by Reddit admits on behalf of Amazon.
They live on through discord
And their UA-cam channel.
The Wheel of Time is a masterpiece and Amazon, at this point, is trampling on the grave of Robert Jordan and Tolkien.
@Joe Schmoe No respect.

Yeah, Falme is not in the Waste.
Looked like a river to me
Thank for your introducing to the shell of time books they are amazing
Rafe says he loves the WoT, which makes me confused as to why he would remove and change everything about the WoT which makes one love it.
He doesn't love the WoT.
He is some kind of Dark Friend
0:40 -- _All crusades are just._
Rafed is going to be an adverb in the future.
I'm not even torrenting it. I will watch it through the Reviews. Its gonna be so much fun.
I'm guessing you don't need of people watching , it's a cheap show, so easy to get renewed
16:47 and here is Geralt!
"All Crusades are just!"
-Vee the Prophet. We will never forget your epic shopping sessions.
remember, Aiel wastes is books 4 and 5 :D So maaaaaybe the made Falme a sand desert, the wastes are supposed to be a stone desert anyways. Then the whitecloacks would make sense again
sidenote, that would also explain the RIVER and OCEAN! Becasue they better not have put any of those anywhere near the wastes where aiel could see it
If Amazon doesn't want to take an L on this overall, they need to purge the writers room of people who a) haven't read the books (all the books so they get the full context) or b) don't like the books (regardless of whether they've read them).
The city was Cairhien and the area outside the walls is called the Foregate
I think they're making Falme a deserty place, hence the whitecloaks and Seanchan in the same spot.
9:00 this is not the Aiel Waste, it's Falme/Tear, which they are combining and turning into a desert climate, for some reason.
Its not like they are on the opposite sides of the Known world or anything ...
🤨
I thought they'd combine falme and tear, not falme and the waste.
Maybe the Whitecloaks are in Arad Doman? But they thought it was Arid Domain?
@7:35, that is Whitecloak "Child Byar" I think. With Perrin's axe on his back. You can see his pauldron on the left shoulder.
Perin after seeing the fade on the door: “Apologise to him!”
Sorry to hear about your brother, and glad you're part of the fandom
The white cloaks were in falme. They fought the seanschen while rand fought the “dark one”.
Yeah, Bornhold gets redirected in that direction. After the Horn of Valere is blown, the heroes from the dead with the CoL fight the Seanchan. Huge epic battle as Rand faces off with Ba'alzamon.
The White Cloaks are not stupid enough to try and walk through the Aiel Wastes. The show’s been Rafe’d
This show has long since stopped being The Wheel of Time and has become The Waste of Time
Never seen wheel of time but I'm here to support the boys. Love yall.
Are you excited for this product? ... _Nough!_
...perfect :D
You guys should consider doing watch parties for season 2. Film yourself reacting live, so we can get that RAW Shad emotion lol. And you can pause where needed to trash whatever fresh abomination has offended your sensibilities
I will be watching the show only to have a reference for you roasting every scenes on it. Can't wait.
@16:00, that's the outskirts of Cairhien. I think it's called the Foregate. It's ramshackle and sketchy because so much of Cairhien was burned and destroyed by the Aeil War 20 years later.
That White Cloak has mask on coz of desert dust also I guess that place maybe somewhere near Toman Head or Falme

Sinead Al'Thor....
That wheel is probably going to be the replacement for the stumps with the Ajah colored rings.
Commercial for "Little Devil" or "Little Demon" played during this video for me. LOL
I'm again looking at this and shaking my head, wondering just where they put all those millions they had at their disposal!
18:45 they are combining Tear and Falme into one. They even re-drew the map to accommodate this. You see a map of the west coast with a river and a delta. We are getting Falmear.
I'll look forward to your analysis as always
I can't wait to watch this when it comes out on The Pirate Bay.
That guy is really 'Rafing' the series. Makes me sad. Thank you for your watch folks! Glad you're here to represent the fans of the OG books.
Am much more excited to watch your reaction and rants of the show than to watch the show itself
Well it was at least watchable.
It was a horrible adaptation, WILDLY missing the tone of the books, but it could at least be enjoyed.
As long as you guys understand that many will not watch it. But we will watch your reviews.
Is that desert fortress in Cairhien? No clue
Amazon has a bizarre, genocidal vendetta against long hair, judging from what they are doing to all their shows.
Bezos is bald!
For the Dawn empire!
To make the algorithm happy
Could the waygate you were looking at be the traveling stones from the second book? The one where Rand, Loial, and Hurin travel to that alternate reality and run into Lanfear.
Gotta hand it to them... Without changing the casting they still managed to find a way to remove the ginger.
9:00 The chap has an axe, surely if he were Aiel he would only have spears.
Rand finally discovered the One True Power: simping
They could condense parts of book 2 and 3. Maybe after the hunt for the horn the Seanchan actually attack Tier instead of Falma?
3:00 what's the amazing comic books Shad is saying? I can't make out the name from Shad's pronounce
For Padan fain I picture worm tongue from LoTR
Will the real Al'Shady please stand up?
