      Except those from the 40s. Real acting, no special effects, and there are plenty of giggles built into even the horror movies.

    Wow! Another gem scripted by the great Richard Matheson; always a joy to find his work! And Peter Graves...and the great and utterly magnificent Clint Walker! His performance in this is unsettling. He illustrates to perfection the image of someone smiling...but with utterly cold eyes. Brilliantly done! Many thanks! :)

    ABC network aired this as a double feature 1/16/1974 repeat of The Night Stalker- Scream of the Wolf, I saw it in 74, so I thought it would be fitting that I watch it 45 years later to the day 1/16/2019. Just as good today as it was in 1974.

    My dog (130lb Great Pyrenees) just loves these movies. Lays there watching intently, growling softly, until he actually sees the animal and then jumps up snarling and barking. After the movie, he likes to go outside into the backyard, still growling, to search for the animal. Man, I'd pity the poor fool who just happens to be out there in the darkness.

    • @susanmunford1394
      @susanmunford1394 6 років тому +4

      My pek/pug mix did the same. He even had the commercials memorized and jumped to attack another animal of any sort entering our house through t.v. lol
      Enjoy him while you have him, I had to put my friend down on Thanksgiving Day. Television will never be the same, although I do still catch myself jumping when an animal comes on t.v., expecting my buddy to come unglued. It brings a smile to my face.

    • @dwightstewart7181
      @dwightstewart7181 6 років тому +4

      Susan .. A lot of dogs do, but mine only to this type of movie. He doesn't care about animals in general on television, but put on one of these (hidden, stalking, growling animal) and he gets aggressive (gander up, fangs bared, etc).
      Anyway, sorry about your friend. I've had to do it three times now and it's always sad. And, since me and "wolfie" have formed such a tight bond, it's going to be especially sad.
      Our elderly neighbors had to put down their female Pyrenees (long before we moved in) and now refuse to have another pet. However, they love to watch "wolfie" in our backyard. She, housebound (some kind of bone illness), will occasionally drive her wheelchair out into her backyard and walk the final few feet (her husband says is very painful) to the fence to pet him. He runs around in circles, rolls on the ground, and acts the fool while she laughs in delight. I leave them to their special times together, watching quietly through the window.

      Susan, I'm so sorry for your loss. I lost one of my kitties right before Thanksgiving, too. They are such a lot of company! While I was watching this movie, I had 3 kitties on me and my 2 dogs growling at the TV set. I was glad that it wasn't gory...just suspenseful, which is what I can handle. Show me a lot of blood and I have got to change the channel!

      How could I chose? There were so many of them! Vincent Price, (who could say the word Eee-VIL better than anyone I ever heard) Boris Karloff even Lon Cheney. My Dad told me he stood in line at the Small Town Theater & paid 10¢ to see the Original "Frankenstein" make it's Debut! And he was an Adult!! So that goes way back in my Family. I & my husband were raised on the "Twilight Zone" Series & now my husband & I look around & see what's going on in this Country & the World & say "Rod Serling was a Prophet"! Crazy to think these "Scary Movies" of yesterday are somewhat coming True! Like "1984" , "The Body Snatchers" & "Soylent Green"!

      He was so lucky!! We all forget, we're here only temporarily. Our possessions don't really belong to us. We are the custodians of our houses. We don't own anything outright, as we can't take anything with us when we die. This life is like a dream.
      Afterwards, we will wake up in another place and we will forget we were even here. Just like all these dreams we don't remember in the morning, but we know we all dream.
      Remember this every day, you're only temporarily here and your day of departure can be at any moment. Do your best with the last day of your stay in this life. ❤

    These 70s made for tv horrors conceal plenty of shadowy mystery behind the camera, develop characters that feel 'realistic', and really work the soundtracks to amp up the suspense -- since FX was expensive and in short supply in the 1970s. Also, it's fun to see all the city scapes and architecture of the 70s in these flix. Peter Graves' Mid Century Modern California Contemporary looks like an awesome home near Malibu. They don't make em like they use to.

    Well, that was a different ending! I thought that creepy guy living at Clint's place was a werewolf, & Clint "lived" for the thrill of having such a creature to do his bidding. Neat twist having Peter/prey surprise him with an "unexpected" pistol.

    The Byron character is absolutely appalling! I’m trying to remember if anyone was really like that back then! Problem is I was too young to make judgements like that. Love the way the werewolf demolishes two super strong outside doors in a second, but can’t make it through the bedroom door!

      Clint was doing a lot of the damage. He didn't kill Peter Graves girlfriend on purpose. He just wanted to awaken, so to speak, Graves.

    Can't remember ever watching this film before , but actually enjoyed it. I was kind of hoping Clint would actually turn into a warewolf but he didn't, or I imagined that there would be a twist to the film and it would be someone else but it wasn't. However it's a good little movie anyway. 👍

    I once read a short horror story way back in the 70's called "The Hunter" which was very similar to this film. The story was set in England and the bad guy used a wolverine instead of a wolf. It was written by a man named David Case and is well worth a read.

    How can any sane person drive at night without checking the gas level ???

    • @dwightstewart7181
      @dwightstewart7181 6 років тому +6

      The premise is that available gas stations aren't that frequent on back country roads at night, thus people often run out of gas while driving much further than expected to find one. It also provides a convenient opening premise to a horror movie. After all, where would we be with people just cruising at 70mph on freeways at night with well lit gas stations at every road junction?

      I think maybe one hopes a more sensible person to get caught somehow would make a tenser, scarier story. The writing might make it be more complicated/expensive to do, but a lot more interesting! Not so common a story line.

    Clint Walker, a much-underappreciated actor, usually plays good guys or frontiersmen. But he plays a heavy equally well. It's also a treat to see Peter Graves in a movie about werewolves. Odd combo of the two.
