I saw something called the Zorn palette , which looks the same as this, it used Yellow ochre . Does the appelles use yellow or yellow ochre ?

Would you recommend the appelles palette for someone just getting into oils? The appeal is that ultimately you don't have to buy so many colors to get started but practically is it a good place to start?

Esp if you intend to paint portraits.
Or you could try ultramarine blue, burnt sienna (they make chromatic black and both warm and cool greys), cad yellow light or lemon, alizarin permanent. Plus a white. You can mix earth colours using these, plus an orange-red with the cad yell + aliz.
You can paint most things using this palette.

The less pigments, the higher/ease of creating a harmonious image. Plus, the intuitive mixing, after a time, giving less obstacle to directly expressing one’s subject matter.
