The sound is so evocative yet, when several teams used what was RAF Abingdon for testing, when they could be heard on the other side of Abingdon and beyond, it was too much for the authorities.
What a beauty. It's sad that this sound has gone away, but innovation is much more important than some nostalgic memory. Both V10's and V6's sound beautiful.
The ninetties brought us some of the most beautiful racing engine sounds imo. Mazda 787B, Sauber C11, Peugeot 905, Ferrari 333SP and McLaren F1 GTR(BMW V12) in sportscars; Ferrari F1 V12 powered cars since 1989 till 1995, Renault 3.5L V10 F1 engines from 1989 till 1994, Lamborghini F1 V12 (Specially the one Senna tested with McLaren at Estoril in 1993).
I bowed out of F1 not long after this... If they still looked and sounded like this I'd still watch it. What's been produced in recent years just doesn't have any character for me.
And this car is totally carbon neutral. F1 can have massive screaming engines and small Lightweight cars but it just doesn’t fit todays marketing agendas which is quite sad

I think people missed the point here, that car is running on sustainable fuels. I do not know if anyone realized but this is a big middle finger to the people who created the demand for efficient turbo hybrid bull crap. Its not the manufacturers fault. Its us the consumers who simply created that demand.
For people saying V6 aren't loud, it is because of new mics used by F1 Media. If you have actually been to a race, you will know that these V6s are still loud. I also prefer Honda (RBPT) downshifts crackles instead of those whinny scratchy v10 which I cant listen to more that 10 min.
Yes the new engines, they are loud, but having seen and heard both in real life, the new engines just aren't any where near the pitch of the old ones, v10 could just about get away without ear plugs, the v12's of the ferrari not a hope!

There will never be atmosphere like that anymore. People were passionate back then because besides on tv it was the only way they could see the cars. They come to the races to film a story for IG instead of enjoying the moment. See Schumachers victory lap at the end of Monza 2001. He almost ran over people it was crazy.

This will also employ a team of older mechanics and visual sponsors foot 2/3 (running cost ONLY) of the bill Renault, Labatt, Cannon, Elf. Otherwise get a cheap mid packer with a snappy engine + 16,500 rpm and rebadge it every race. But if your going to say "sustainable fuels" have it run on non petroleum, non food based fuels that don't use farmland THEY SHOULD USE GARBAGE AS THEIR SOURCE, WHICH BRINGS IN PLASTICS and where back to petroleum. I'll shut up now.
