Your new home is absolutely beautiful❤congrats! Love this topic today. I have a scarcity mindset growing up in a low income household yet as a single mom like you I’m taking control of my life and finances 😊thank you!!
I'm a huge fan of yours and I love how cozy your place is. I bet you are really proud of yourself. All the best, sweetheart!!!!! We're with you!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I've never been financially irresponsible but I def grew up with a scarcity mindset 😢 now that I finished paying off my student loans, I overanalyze every purchase I want to make
It’s a balancing act giving myself grace and not feeling guilty to spend money. I went to the movies last weekend and got some snacks and a soda and last month I bought myself some cute loungewear, got my nails done, etc. I’ve paid over $3,300 towards my damn debt and I was hauling ass for months, so I will give myself fun money 😅
I needed to hear this, because I was just saying I’m tired of not treating myself just putting all money towards goals and debt. Good points and great ideas I will be trying
We are taught to look to the future so much that we forget the version of ourselves that we currently have. You deserve to be rewarded in the now as well❤
I love the 70/20/10 rule. I only ever thought of that rule when it comes to my income to manage my bills and savings. But I love that you do that with every amount of income you get
My financial situation has changed recently and have been trying to navigate similar choices. Your channel popped up on my feed and you seem very interesting. I’ve learned a lot during this post pandemic era. Thanks for keeping the faith and staying positive. I haven’t watched too many vids I’m guessing you live in the south.
A good thought is to spend on the things that bring you the most joy, and for everyone that’s different. I cut out virtually all eating out by myself, I buy generic self-care products, wear my clothes to death, and haven’t updated my tech / car in a long while. That said, I will definitely splurge on taking my kids to the zoo or a nice dinner out with my husband. Not saying I’m doing things the “right” way, but I do cut where it doesn’t matter, and spend where it does (to me).
I am stillllll in this phase where spending money (without giving myself the talk first) brings up all kinds of emotions and regrets...recently I overspent on spices, teas and oils in Morocco - $600 worth - pretty much lost my emotional sh** - had to have make shift therapy over the issue and am pretty sure I left a bad taste in the mouths of the people I vacationed with - lawd be a couch because I need to lay down - lol
Your living room is looking so cozy! I struggle with a lot of money anxiety, it can be so tough to find a good balance and then not guilt myself afterwards. Love your videos.
I am not too far off from where you were. I try to stop spending not even getting myself nice things outside of eating out. But then you get that item and you spend the day looking for other items you want to buy. I have just recent took the sacrifice and got a part time job to increase my income so I can actually feel like I’m paying down debt, saving, and treating me and my kids to nice things like a vacation. Thank you so much for the advice and encouragement ❤
I’m with you. I think flexibility is key to staying motivated with financial goals, especially long-term ones. I don’t personally believe there’s anything wrong with carrying debt throughout life as long as you’ve got good management of it and keep it within reason based on your income and you’ve got a life insurance policy to cover the rest when you leave so you’re family isn’t burdened. Otherwise, life is short and not promised. 🤷🏾♀️
I swear UA-cam is better than therapy! (For things like this) You've described so many things i have felt and been through. Ive definitely been too restrictive and given up... time and time again. 😬
Love love love ❤️ wow 😯 doing a no spend year helped but this year it’s been harder after the no spend ! Thank you Dyana I aspire to be more like you!!!!!!🩵🙏🩵
Definitely like the idea of designating rewards for yourself after meeting small goals. A little bit of positive reinforcement goes a long way towards keeping me motivated.
This is so true. It reminds me you should look at having to spend money as circulating money. That implies it will come back. From the teachings of Rev Ike
I have six figures of student loan debt. I will be on this journey for a few years. I have set up rewards for each milestone I reach. I also have a Travel, Leisure and Gift Sinking fund that I fund modestly. Sometimes I'm too Spartan and when I want to come up for air I'm reaching for a credit card 💳 ... continuing the debt spiral. I have to learn "fun" is a critical part of a balanced life and budget. These decisions have to be informed by total debt and income.
I feel bad about purchases when I know they were impulsive. I have the money (not assigned to me, but for things a forgot to add to budget). These are not things I forgot to add tho so it’s things I COULD have saved up to purchase specifically if I really needed/wanted. I’m adding in rewards for when I pay off intervals of debt. Just to help with the fatigue.
Maybe in the moment before you make the purchase asked yourself "what am I afraid of?" Sometimes impulse purchases are a reaction to something going on, affecting us, or were afraid that if we don't buy it right now that thing won't be available to purchase later.
Thank you for making this video! I am debt-free and have enough money and invested and saved. I am having major guilt and scarcity for spending about 6k on orthodontic treatment. I was able to pay for it in cash and still be okay but I can't help but feel my cheapness coming through. I need this treatment so I'm excited but just need to let go of this scarcity mindset!
I can relate. It may be because it was a large purchase and maybe you're someone that will do the most for someone but not yourself. The orthodontics are for your health. I know teeth isn't really recognized as tied to health but it really is.
On my debt free journey I allowed myself to have things. My income was 35% was on needs (with a personal spending included), 35% went to debt, 15% giving, 15% saving. I had a tropical vacation, purchased a luxury bag (pre loved, I will pay more for quality but not full price 😊) and also purchase a almost brand new car, paid in full, all during my debt free journey. One of my rules was if I wanted a meal out at a restaurant it had to come out of my personal funds alloment but if I went to the grocery store I could take it out of my grocery budget. I still do the same today. Complete deprivation is not the only way to the goal. I didn't make 6 figures.this was all on a low income. I didn't get an inheritance or win the lottery.i can honestly say it's what I've heard called God math. He is the One that makes everything possible.
This woman gives real talk whilst being respectful and helpful 💖

Same here.
As long as I put it in the budget, I do not feel guilty
That’s how it should be!

I used to feel so guilty when I bought something while still in debt. It’s hard to shake that feeling.

So many do!! You know what to do if you allow yourself to do it!

its easy. quit spending it and put the money on the principal balance of the mortgage. that "gulity" feeling go away realllllll fast.
Very good advice.
What’s everyone’s strategy in paying down debt? Snowball? Avalanche? Velocity Banking?
