    Looked like a good time. When a person is prepared for it, camping in the rain can be comforting and peaceful. Good to see you are still at it.

    This is a timeless video, now almost a yr old. Still, Wayne, I didn't want the video to end and found myself relaxing, listening to the rain hitting your tarp. Thanks much for taking the time to film during inclement weather, exposing yourselves and sleeping gear to the elements, not to mention your camera gear. Not too many vloggers are willing to camp out during these conditions, yet alone make a video during same. Much appreciated. Always enjoy your videos, the effort that goes into them and your reverence for nature that shines through in each.

      Mike, thank you very much, reading a comment like this made my morning. I truly appreciate the positive feed back. It poured rain here all day yesterday , and going to again tonight. So i'm off camping for the night, I love to learn what works out there in all conditions, and the only way you know and learn is by doing. :) ATB.

      Enjoy your camp out, Wayne. I should mention that I have always been a tent camper but after watching your hammock videos, as well as others, I am going to try hammock camping. As one of the many BMT(Benton MacKaye Trail) maintainers here in the mtns of North Ga. and Eastern Tn., I, along with other volunteers, are always willing to try different gear. Since we furnish our own personal camping gear, which has to be dependable and cost effective, we are always looking for good value and new approaches to help us in our trail work. I recently ordered a hammock and tree straps, a sil nylon tarp, a top quilt and am in the process of acquiring a bottom quilt, Amsteel ridge line and storage bags and a few other hammock related accessories, as necessary. I will tweak my gear as I try out different approaches and see what works for me. Have a great day.

    When I was tent camping I always dreaded the rain, you're stuck in your tent, you can't go outside and you can't stand up. In my hammock with my tarp I enjoy the rain. I can lay there, keep a chair under my tarp to sit on or, sit on my hammock or I can stand up. You get it.

      Your right, i sat under my tarp many days and nights when it rained and i was hammock camping. I have set up camp when the ground was soaked, and had no worries since my hammock never touchs the ground. Both have there pros and cons. :) Thanks for the watch and your thoughts Steve.,

    • @HamsterLife_EnglishLearning
      @HamsterLife_EnglishLearning 7 років тому

      The only thing that can wake me up in a storm is the loud cracks that make you jump at times. I can sleep through the loud booming thunder and heavy rain sound on the tarp no problem, as long as I don't get wet or dripped on..

    • @kullcraven
      @kullcraven  7 років тому

      That is good and bad, i am a light sleepr out there, and I'm very happy with that. If a predator or critter is coming into my camp, i want to wake and deal with it. lol

      I agree, where I"m going camping on the 24th is a patrol officer that patrols the park for my first camp out of this year. I had to ask as I wanted to go alone rather then wait for my daughter to be able to go in July. I told my daughter that is too long for me to wait. lol I will go once a month May to mid Oct. on my own and once or twice with her this year. They also told me no bears or wild life problems as of yet. Tis not the ideal fun wilderness camping, but I will be safer for my first trip. My ideal place is Algonquin. I've never been, but I have watched tons of UA-cam video's of bears in camp and all.

    • @kullcraven
      @kullcraven  6 років тому

      I enjoy both hammocks and tents. Tents give you a private space and a place to store gear and such, also you need a spot to place it and sometimes its hard to find . Hammocks, i sleep better, no pain waking up, unlike when i sleep on the ground. Also easier to find places to set up in a hammock . :) Thanks.

      That is a 12x16 tarp , so its length with the ridge line, was 16' and then that gave 6 ' on both sides over the ridge line, that i can tie out with the 12' section. Hope that made sense lol. Glad to help.

    Nice video. Nothing like the sound of rain on a tarp but the wind gusts will get your attention. What size tarp were you using?
    Thanks for the video. Take care, Al

    • @kullcraven

      The rain was powerful alot of the night and the winds as well at times. We was safe, and the only concern would be a branch or tree. Tho it was a good trip with nothing more then a couple hours less sleep . lol The tarp was 12x18 pretty much. So for 25 bucks we had a shelter we can use for years and lots of room to move around and cook and stay dry :)

      Like that idea. I camp on our property a lot more then I go out. I have a Warbonnet Superfly tarp that I like but am looking for a alternate tarp for closer to fires etc. Thanks for responding and take care, Al

      I like these baskets, and that is exactly what they are, the bush clothespin, is what some call them. I did a video on the bush clothespin, a while back. Thanks for watching .

    Hi how do you stop the rain running down the hammock tie lines and into the hammock?

    • @kullcraven

      I have a caribiner on my hammock cords. The strap is tied to that the left over strap hanging down, which acts as a drip line. Thanks for the watch.

    Question... I've never used a hammock, nor watched a lot of videos about them. In a heavy rain that last for days... what keeps water from running down the ropes and into/onto the hammocks. Do the ends of the hammocks get wet from it?

    • @kullcraven

    How do you keep the water from running down your lines and into the hammock? I've tried hanging a string off the the line towards the top and it still ended up running into my hammock.

    • @kullcraven
      @kullcraven  6 років тому

      I make sure that my tarp covers a good portion of my hammock straps, I dont have the problem of water soaking my hammock. I'm sorry but i dont have a good answer for you. I make sure that very little of my straps is in the rain.
