Great interview. Pleased to see Michael has come over from the dark side. As a gay man in Newcastle upon Tyne I absolutely loathe Stonewall. They're cowards. Never ever have I seen a representative of Stonewall be interviewed despite numerous media outlets inviting them to their studios. Instead Stonewall issue press releases. They're afraid of being challenged because they know their man can be a woman and vice versa is 100% shit and they'd be shot down in flames at every turn. Kudos to Julie and to the LGB Alliance. ❤
Well said. I'm another gay man. I much prefer to avoid social media and all of this nonsense, but it's rather difficult. This rainbow nonsense and alphabet soup garbage never represented me, and, innocently enough, until a few years ago, I'd assumed the distinction between gay people and 'that lot' was perfectly obvious. I now challenge this nonsense at every opportunity.
This was great! We need more adult conversation and clear-eyed rationalism around this topic, instead of hysteria and increasingly meaningless buzzwords.
Bindel believes being a lesbian is a choice that all hetero women should make für their health, I'm not twisting that at all. It's so interesting watching bigots agree with each other and hiding their differences from each other.
People in society must stand up. A significant number of the activists have cluster B personality disorders and there is no way they will stop on their own initiative. Because so many people are afraid to stand up to them, we are experiencing the tyranny of the minority.
The trans issue is singular in that you could vote for a party that has a major policy that you disagree with, if you find the majority of their policies preferable to those of the alternatives parties. With trans, it boils down to whether a party will espouse that which they know to be patently and inarguably untrue, to the detriment of the electorate, with a straight face AND admonish those who do speak the truth. It is frightening that Starmer could be PM having said that it's 'not right' to say only a woman can have a cervix. Sadiq Khan has suggested it endangers people to ask whether women can have a penis. This is dark behaviour. Labour has shown it is prepared to try to suppress discussion of it's position and why? Because they know the positions are unsupportable.
Bindel literally believes all women should "choose" being gay, she calls this "political lesbian", which is how she classifies herself. Someone that confused about sexuality becoming celebrated by fascists and mannists is a sight to see.
The SNP has failed in all aspects of policy during their 15 years in power. So no surprise they've captured another narrow-minded, single-issue voter like you, along with the rest of the nats
Thank you for putting into words. The reason why I never considered myself as a feminist. I am an American from Hispanic background. I never really conceptually connected with American feminism. And now you've put into words why they don't take care of the basement... The women who really need are help. Thank you julie...
Audre Lorde, May Ayim, Angela Davis are all the leading names of contemporary feminisms. All black. Fighting for migrants, the imprisoned, and the poor. You've been duped by conservatives. Bindel, who is white, is transphobic, racist, and tells straight women that they should be "political lesbians" like her is not really a feminist. She just has some popular bigoted opinions and other bigots with more power (see MAGA) can point to her and say "look even feminists agree". Bindel is the definition of a minstrel.
A wonderfully open and intelligent discussion in the best manner. Two souls discussing the reality of the 'human condition' and it's contradictions and how we see things both as individuals and as a society. Both matter! Michael Foran (who I have never heard of before) and Julie Bindel who I have admired for decades for her sincerity and focus on suffering reduction both learning from each others perspective and showing mutual respect and even admiration.. A RARE soulful treat!
I’m a Conservative man and I like listening to Julie, we can disagree but at least she’s got a sense of humour and a personality! The modern woke lot are sorely lacking in both!
Nope and that makes you my enemy. Shes is man hating lesbias separatist. Hiding that lesbians do the more rape in prison and ignoring trans men raping women.
What a fascinating conversation. I’m a big admirer of Michael’s calm & lucid explanations of the law on social media. It was good to hear his thoughts on what I still think of as “proper feminism” as opposed to “fun feminism”. Great interview Julie - really thought provoking. The role of anger in clarifying action is well worth thinking about.
Bindel stole that line from Audre Lorde who famously opposed TERFs and even mentions "misnaming" of black trans women in the speech itself. Bindel misappropriated this and attributes it to herself cause she has no scruples stealing from a dead black woman. Bindel is a tired bigot.
As a Scottish Unionist, I just hate the way the SNP have appropriated Saint Andrew's saltire, which should be the symbol of Scotland, to represent their political Party.🙄
@marieparker3822 On the contrary, do not cede the Saltire or allow a political entity to claim it. Continue to fly your flag because it represents people of Scotland and is above party politics. It is the symbol of history, culture and unity that transcends politics and everything else. Sadly, the St George's cross has been associated with party politics and was not properly defended as a symbol of unity for everyone, which was a grave mistake. Your Saltire is yours, all of you living in Scotland, not just the SNPs.
Me too Marie, I hate that the St George’s cross and even the Union Jack is just associated with vague and nebulous racism (without me being a football hooligan or a racist). I’m ethnically half Scottish but was born and raised in England (I’m from the Logan’s. The Scottish Jamie Logan, fire chief and toy maker 😊) and it has always bothered me that people like Ian Blackfoot hates me just because I’m English. I’ve always been one to say it’s up to the Scottish on the referendum but didn’t want Scotland to leave the union. So I guess I’m a unionist too. It’s nice to hear it from a Scottish person. It’s also pretty rare to get an SNP activist who can even talk about things like the Barnett formula or the tax issues in Scotland. I’ve spoken to too many SNP activists and voters who just blame Westminster without actually thinking what or why their problems exist. Phew, anyways that was a really big way to say, cool, I’m an English pro unionist, ‘sensible centrist’ too and it’s nice to see another person who doesn’t want complete devolution of the British isles.
SNP have a yellow background and black lettering, no saltire in their logo. When people who support independence go on demos/marches, they fly the flag of the country that they wish to be independent, others of differing views can still utilise the saltire.. Re GRA reform I did not then and do not now support SNP collective stance on self I.d. and in fact, would like to see GR and equality acts reviewed and clarified to reflect the fact that Sex Matters, despite what people identify or present as, for the rights of females.
@shelleyphilcox4743 many Scottish citizens wish to dissociate from the Union flag for a lot of reasons - I've seen the flag of St George held high on independence marches alongside the St Andrews saltire. These are representative of, at the very least, disaffected individuals with (amongst other issues) governance, from Westminster, bias from media outlets and empire association . On the subject of gender reform and sex based rights for women, all the Scottish based parties and SNP with exception of Alba it seems, appear to have fallen under the spell of trans activist narratives. I realise I'm coming into this discussion now at a time of general election on 4th July in UK, but any party that does not respect my sex should not expect my X
Wow, what a insightful conversation and so many 'quotable' statements. I particularly loved what Michael said about principles and being prepared to sacrifice things for them rather than using them as a weapon to get your own way all the time.
It seems to be a medical thing to me, so would not mind if the disabled toilets I need to use become the toilet for the M2F people, as disabled loos are single occupancy places, so unless you have a helper you are in there alone. The ladies toilet is where women and girls go to deal with their most personal and private needs. Including menstruation problems, it's not fair to have a male hovering around taking all this in. It's a facility where one is vulnerable so the safety aspect that must never be overlooked yet somehow it is.
*To be completely clear I mean medical as transition often has surgical and medicinal ramifications. That's why I'm categorising it as a medical issue, thus, use the disabled loo.
I love him, and his explanations of the law are well researched and easy to follow, and he is rightly highly regarded as an expert in law, julie is an amazing woman who has been exhaustively fighting against violence against women and girls for many many years and is an expert on this subject. This was a great conversation betwenn two fantastic people. Thank you 😊
What completely blows my mind is these laws and policies are becoming more legitimised in countries which are meant to protect civil liberty as the foundation to democracy
This was eye opening for me, I've only really seen feminism as a fight to get the most privileged women in the tops of their fields equal with the men in the tops of their fields, rather than to get the most disadvantaged women out of situations.
Really. I am a feminist but I fight for disadvantaged women. Even when you say most privileged women that is relative as most of those women face discrimination. Maybe not to the degree that poorer or non educated women do but they still face discrimination. It just manifests itself differently.
Michael saw this bill and could clearly see what a danger this is to the most vunerable women and young girls in our society and used his legal skills analitically to publish this excellent article he wrote for the majority of people to see the common sense of blocking it . Well done Michael it's a good thing that we have people like him actually doing the greater good for society and exposing how incredibily misogonistc some of these trans activist groups really are .
Never been a fan of Julie Bindel and probably a lot of that has come from how she has been portrayed and how in her younger days how she presented herself. Still not going to agree with a lot of her opinions but i do like to hear them and my philosophy is that look for where you agree, have common ground, similar opinions and ideas.
I still dont understand why this bill was ever a thing, its on the same level of insane as dylan mulvaney interviewing the president. What. Is. Happening.
Hat off to you, a veteran in the battle for women, living as a German woman in Switzerland, I‘m quite ok, but living with hubby and kids, the Swiss are very backward re childcare etc, so some work here to do as well
Izzard does not look anywhere as feminine as Julie, no matter how much lippy or eye/ makeup he applies. Bragg and Jones on the subject of women's rights is wholly ludicrous and hypocritical imo
This is a must see interview- clear and to the point. Feminists are now conflated with ‘ the mad woke’ . More exposure to the topics discussed in this interview is needed in the legacy media
I'll believe that women truly want equality when women support changing the divorce and child custody laws so that men enter court on equal footing. Moreover, equality demands that paternity testing should be a requirement before the awarding of child support.
So did the British government when they stopped the bill. The high court's agreed it was lawful to stop it. Sturgeon resigned weeks ago. This is just beating a dead horse now. "Never fight the last war"
It was feminists like Bindel who spent their whole lives pushing the "gender is a social construct" nonsense - which led directly to all this insanity. Now they're whining that the same tactics and ideology is being used against them: and I have *zero* sympathy.
I would not just prefer, but absolutely believe we need to repeal the GRA 2004. The act makes a fiction into law (similar to blasphemy laws, it privileges an ideology over biological facts). No one can change their biological sex so it is wrong to allow someone to change the biological sex recorded on their birth certificate. Thus, it allows for other laws and prescendents to set (pronouns, women being described as mentruators cervix havers, birthing parent). Note that this affects females more than men.
@@AngelaHavey if you want to make a legal sex change absolute impossible you have at first to specify "biological sex" in laws, which was yet done nowhere around the world. Otherwise you will have a flood of lawsuits for each and eyery case when someone says their sex was assigned wrong at birth. Simply saying "the sex of a person is the sex recorded at birth" does only work in authoritarian states like Hungary and Russia. Do you want the UK to become some only for that topic? I think "biolocical sex" is generally not specifyable in laws without making arbitrary assumptions, also has then to happen a new categorization of some cis people against their will.
We need to basically dismantle everything New Labour put in place between 1997 and 2010. The 2010 equalities act in particular has handed the left control of the entire public sector.
@@HallOween-sx5jt no, utter bs is your response, read my whole comment and think about it, and you will see that it's true if you are not completely gaslighted by this whole sex-essentialist anti-trans bs. What do you personally want as a legal "sex divider", only the chromosomes? Other sex characteristics shouldn`t count? Good luck with the thousands of lawsuits which will follow that. The present sex assignment at birth is also arbitrary in that way, looks only at the genitals and then assigns (or has problems with that when they are ambiguous), it worked in a time before physical transition was possible, the GRA is only kind of after-correction of that.
This has always been my problem with feminism it is driven by an elite few, with little or no understanding of the vast majority of women and their struggles. This in turn has lead to the transgender movement erasing biological women. 😢
The whole point of feminism was to destroy western civilisation - it never had much to do with women except in wanting to turn them against men, children, family and their own society.
I have a lot of respect for the British "feminists" as Julie is...because they are the ones standing up against the transmovement, but I think we should accept the biological male and female roles, and develop some sort of balance between traditional roles and the modern way, but let women be women en just women!
First time watching and found it great. Clear honest conversation on a subject that has interested me from the age of 20 (now 62) and which I have tried to implement with female friends i.e. we are the same when we work together in all aspects of life to mutual acceptable conclusions (probably not the right 2 words but best I can think of for now). Thank you.
Most of the SNP, all of the Scottish Green &Libdem, most of Scottish Labour and 3 Tory MSPs voted for the Bill. A 2/3 majority. Interview Ian Blackford or get them to debate.
This was an amazing interview. I think Michael is a sort of good representative of where a lot of us men had been and what we were thinking. Feminism needs to remain a core principle, it can't diverge into the silliness and pettiness that it had devolved into over the last decade or so.
Michael Foran was doing so well, but lost me when he said gender neutral toilets disproportionately affect Muslim and orthodox Jewish women. Is it okay for Christian white women to share toilets with men?
Being forced to share bathrooms, showers,or safe spaces with men is not okay for any woman of any faith or no faith! Who commits most of our assukts, sexual assaults, crimes and murders against women and other men in any country; its men! That men are the ones that act out with violent nature's in society is a statistical fact! Assuming it's safe to allow this statistically dangerous sex to be allowed in our settings where women and children are most vulnerable is pure maddness! It is proven to be unsafe! The evidence men are prone to be dangerous to females us recorded and goes back thousands of years!
@@babs_babs That depends upon the family. I just want women's bathrooms to remain exclusive and as safe as they can be for women and girls. Instead it's all become a crazy problem.
Julie Bindel is a joy. She is a very serious woman, with very serious interests and opinions, whose charming personality is her biggest weapon when she takes up cudgels against those who seek to frustrate her political campaigns. Those who sit in the House of Commons would do well to emulate her combination of integrity and humour.
She pushed this hideous rad-fem doctrine her whole life - she laid the groundwork for all of this lunacy. She doesn't get to whine now that the monster she created has decided to bite her.
@@HallOween-sx5jt - I am not paid by anyone for my opinions, but you wouldn't understand that as unlike me you do not make comments under your real name.
You can see, in Michaels eyes, the depth with which he has delved on this subject. A clever guy. Also, Julie is equally as engaging on this subject. Very much worth watching.
Whenever I hear a young person saying they haven't heard of Julie 's type of feminism (advocating for the most vulnerable women) I hear that old song playing in my head: "The revolution will not be televised."
Nice interview, thanks! Usually I would like to leave a Super Thanks on such an interview, but it doesn't seem to be an option... Has The Spectator been demonetised??
It seems to me we all live in society together and everything we do has an effect on shaping that society, and affecting us all, sometimes in the same way and sometimea different. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, should listen fairly to each other, the issue being it should not be that anyone has disproportionate or unfair advantage or power in shaping that society, and an acknowledgement that where a particular group are disproportionately affected, there might need to be an agreed 'weighting' of the voice from those most negatively affected to achieve fairness.
Yes, but isn't that how we got into this mess? How do you quantify who is disproportionately affected? How do you 'weight' that? The weighting (in a democracy) is the majority. The majority of women are working-class, straight, mothers, probably grandmothers in an aging population . They don't owe their right to political representation to any other group that *claims* disadvantage. This is the fundamental flaw of minority identity activism and grievance politics. They don't actually want a fairer society where everyone is liberated from all kinds of oppression. Their goal has nothing to do with "social justice". They only seek to reconstruct oppression differently.
The trouble with employment discrimination law applying to trans is that allows them to work with kids and the care industry and this is a problem. It should not be a protected characteristic.
Comically, the discussion starts from a viewpoint that you are correct, and those who don't agree are wrong. You end up with a discussion on how can we work with these wrong cultures.

The 2010 equalities act in particular has handed the left control of the entire public sector.
@@miriamlana833😂"arbitrary assumptions" Utter bs!
THANK YOU MICHAEL.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 100% 👏👏👏👏👏 YES!!! Thank you a strong man to stand up for others..... Thank you! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
What a fine fine fine discussion
This has always been my problem with feminism it is driven by an elite few, with little or no understanding of the vast majority of women and their struggles. This in turn has lead to the transgender movement erasing biological women. 😢
The whole point of feminism has been and still is that its aim is to improve the lives, protections and prospects of *all* women.
All women who are actually women or all women and a few delusional men?
Not true@strelnikoff2750 not true, if you want to help, stop this bs and do something constructive
You looking in the wrong place
The whole point of feminism was to destroy western civilisation - it never had much to do with women except in wanting to turn them against men, children, family and their own society.
Never see his chap before but i liked him. Bloody adore JB
Loved this. What a terrific conversation. ❤
Julie Bindel never fails to impress. Great interview.
I have a lot of respect for the British "feminists" as Julie is...because they are the ones standing up against the transmovement, but I think we should accept the biological male and female roles, and develop some sort of balance between traditional roles and the modern way, but let women be women en just women!
Women pushing back is how this ends. As well as homosexuals refusing to be used as human shield for the trans jihadis
Merci beaucoup.
Thank you.
Where are the younger female journalists who do this? Make room for them, Spectator.
I cannot like this enough.
Michael Foran, at 29, has a very impressive intellect.
Brilliant conversation, thank you!
That was great. USA catch up!
God, I love how fundamentally unserious conservative Brits are 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
He’s great!
Go Julie!!!!!
Michael Foran was doing so well, but lost me when he said gender neutral toilets disproportionately affect Muslim and orthodox Jewish women. Is it okay for Christian white women to share toilets with men?
christin women don’t have extra rules about head covering around men
and yeah it’s ok for christian women to share bathrooms with men. family bathrooms aren’t dangerous at all.
@@babs_babs
That depends upon the family.
I just want women's bathrooms to remain exclusive and as safe as they can be for women and girls.
Instead it's all become a crazy problem.
No it is not
at 25 minute mark: great definition of being a "principled" person!
Very enjoyable and enlightening. Thank you. Much appreciated.
Good on you mate
Julie Bindel is a joy. She is a very serious woman, with very serious interests and opinions, whose charming personality is her biggest weapon when she takes up cudgels against those who seek to frustrate her political campaigns. Those who sit in the House of Commons would do well to emulate her combination of integrity and humour.
She pushed this hideous rad-fem doctrine her whole life - she laid the groundwork for all of this lunacy. She doesn't get to whine now that the monster she created has decided to bite her.
😂 Paid simp?
@@HallOween-sx5jt - I am not paid by anyone for my opinions, but you wouldn't understand that as unlike me you do not make comments under your real name.
Great interview ❤
Brilliant article never thought I’d agreed with all this
Always looking for new ways to divide us.
Love Julie!! ❤
It wouldn't be Bindel if she didn't slip some contempt for men into her intro. Good on her for doing this though.
Great interview and outlook. Feel more informed.
You can see, in Michaels eyes, the depth with which he has delved on this subject. A clever guy. Also, Julie is equally as engaging on this subject. Very much worth watching.
Wonderful interview.
Love Julie. Glad to be introduced to Michael through this interview 🇮🇪
Well done Julie
I love these interviews. Must NOT watch any more today!
Thanks!
Interesting listen
Yes. In final, I gave you a like and I shared your video. Half-Way.
Excellent 😊
Superb 👍
31:10 - We live among many shouting cowards. People who use "safety" as a trump card know they have no valid arguments.
Whenever I hear a young person saying they haven't heard of Julie 's type of feminism (advocating for the most vulnerable women) I hear that old song playing in my head:
"The revolution will not be televised."
Nice interview, thanks! Usually I would like to leave a Super Thanks on such an interview, but it doesn't seem to be an option... Has The Spectator been demonetised??
That was really interesting.
That was a great listen. Thanks
Men's spaces are always sacred. Women's spaces are always challenged.
I’m sure you’ve got an important point. But… what men’s spaces? They are all disallowed (in the ‘west’)
Also, unlike Kathleen Michael isn’t a woman. Grateful for this conversation.
Yes, the basement not exclusively the glass ceiling!
I like Kathleen very much Yes. So , I have to give you a like for the video because I, Lady, I am truthful.
So a bit like Sir Beer Starmers efforts towards helping young girls regarding grooming gangs...
Women Most Affected
Owen Jones and Billy Brag…….God help us!!
Fantastic interview and podcast
The trouble with employment discrimination law applying to trans is that allows them to work with kids and the care industry and this is a problem. It should not be a protected characteristic.
Comically, the discussion starts from a viewpoint that you are correct, and those who don't agree are wrong.
You end up with a discussion on how can we work with these wrong cultures.
